Ravens Promote Al Saunders

7 posts in this topic

The Ravens promoted Al Saunders to Senior Offensive Consultant. He already signed on with the team earlier in they year, so this isn't new news. But his role has increased.

Interesting to note that Al Saunders is from the Mike Martz school of football thought, which is very pass-happy. It'll be interesting to see how this move affects our offense.

What exactly does a Senior Offensive Consultant do? Does he have a say in what the offense actually does?

He'll be helping Coach Cameron with game plans and stuff like that, but Cam will still be calling the actual plays.

It's a good question. And I really have no idea. But it's not like Al Saunders is a light weight. He's been around the league for a long time, so one would think he has some sort of influence as to the offensive schemes.

But I think he will actually work more with the individual players themselves.

Thanks.

As long as the offense is balanced and doesn't get shut down by the likes of Indy and Cincy, I'll be happy.

Saunders will be integral when it comes to our offensive philosophy more so than what happens on the field. Like they said in the article, he believes in mid-deep balls and inside runs. So he'll help Cam figure out the best players & schemes to make those things happen.

This coaching staff is getting better and better. If we can keep all these guys in one place for the next 3-5 years we are going to be a powerhouse. Dean Pees, Monachino, we are bringing in the people we need to succeed. This is probably one of the most complete coaching staffs we've had,
