College Coach Prospect

11 posts in this topic

Stan, no doubt this guy is good...does he want to coach in the NFL???

College coaches often prefer the college ranks...

I just hope Ozzie is staying up nights thinking about all this, cause the Ravens future depeneds on it...hell it's on my mind!!!!

If he loves the Ravens (and his job LOL!!!) as much as me, he would be spending hours pouring over how he could make them better.

I wouldn't hire a college coach to coach in the NFL, not for a couple seasons anyway. It doesn't matter if he wants to coach in the NFL, Nick Saban and Bobby Petrino also wanted to coach in the NFL but look what happened to them.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!

God I hope they don't hire a college coach. I promise you that if that happens, we will have another losing season.

I agree, no college coach. It's not the same and it's proven time and time again. What I would like to see is an offensive-minded coach in there who can work with and develop a QB...

No college coach PLEASE. They never make the transition fast enough - Hire from the NFL talent - there are plenty of smart coordinators out there to choose from. Everyone watched Petrino get his butt handed to him this year and run away tail between his legs.

its one thing that their Collegiate Record says this or say that about a team, but to be honest....all that and all those stats are thrown out the window once coming to the NFL, because its a new beginning and therefore you must prove yourself worthy and work your way up.

And most college coaches don't get a chance to work there way up either they leave because they can't handle the NFL or owners and GM's get rid of them expecting more out of them in a short period of time.

Like players, just cuz they were good coaches in college doesn't mean they'll be good in the NFL. Stick w/ NFL-experienced coaching.

The only way a college coach will work is if the team has time to build and grow WITH the coach (i.e. a YOUNG team with players mostly fresh out of college).

However, with a team that has a lot of veterans like the Ravens, there is no time for the players to adjust to a coach with a different ideal when it comes to discipline. College coaches, for the most part, expect the players to do EVERYTHING that's told of them, as if the players are their property, since they really don't have a say in the matter. However, since the players in the NFL are PAID to do ONLY their job and nothing more (which is to PERFORM on the field, period), they technically don't have to listen to the coach if they don't want to.

In essence, what I'm saying is, it'd be much more difficult for a college coach to mesh with this team if that coach does not have an immediate understanding that the players will do what the players will do and it's up to HIM to work harder to bring them on the same page, since professionalism in a job like this does not entail having to follow leadership blindly.

agreed, and if a Owner or whoever isnt willing to give them that kind of time to allow that kind of adjusting/adjustment to occur or if the Coach just couldnt either deal with the pace and the hardship that comes with being in the NFL or his overall comfort level..doesnt matter, then we see yet another College coach down the drain and have to start a new once more
