Who Wears Contact Lenses?

19 posts in this topic

Okay today I went to get some contact lenses. I need them for baseball cuz seeing the ball early out of the pitchers hand has become a bit of a problem for me especially when theyre throwing 80+. So they dont just let u take them home the doctor has to see that u know how to put them on and take them off. I had no idea how hard it was to put on contact lenses when u first try them. I was up there for about an hour and after probably 50 tries I got pissed off and quit then left both eyes extremely irritated and what not.....so how the heck do u put those damned things in?

I wore contacts for a little while and I hated them. It was never very difficult to get them on, but they always slid around on my eyeball. I'm back to glasses now.

I have worn them since I was 18 and I'm in my 40's. If you are having issues try putting a drop of saline in the lens when it is on your finger-- makes it adhere better. Big thing is WASH YOUR HANDS and never moisten them in your mouth.
My son keeps a case, saline and a cheap pair of glasses in his truck he has worn them since 5th grade and never had an issue and he is now a senior.

I had trouble with them because I have pretty small eyes, took me about ten minutes to get the hang out it but when I came home and took them out it felt weird.Never moved around or anything and very good if you play sports.

I tried it once and I could not seem to get my eye open enough. I'm sure it takes some getting used to.

I swim, scuba dive used to water ski and only have only lost one in the ocean, the only problems I have ever had was with the extend wear ones that you could leave in for a month, I don't think they make them anymore, tearing and giving me pink eye. It took my son about a week to get used to them, the great thing is they give you peripheral vision and depth perception is better--make sure you get yourself a good pair of sunglasses too. Most glasses are tinted and in MD you have to ask for the UV lenses but thats all they sell in FL as we found out on vacation 2 years ago. My son decided to try swimming in the ocean with them and went through a box in 2 days, so we had to get his prescription faxed to Walmart to get a new box.

I've worn contact lenses for *hack* 23 years.

ravens it just takes a hella lot of practice and patience. Back in the starting-out days, my MOM had to put them in for me for a long time.

Now I can put my lenses in in the dark without a mirror. :D

As for the eye irritation, your eye doctor should tell you to wear them on a schedule...two or three hours at first and then gradually increasing that to give your eyes a chance to adjust. And make sure they're fitted properly too. That will cut down on the irritation.

Because of my vision issues, I'll never be without contact lenses. Disposable soft lenses bring my left eye to 20/50 and my right eye to 20/40 (my glasses only correct to about 20/80)...wont' get any better than that for me.

[/b]That sucks--I get 20/20 in my L and they keep my right at 20/30 because of the astigmatism, I am getting to the point my arms are getting too short :oldwiseman: and am going to need to do something about that. When I wear my glasses I can see fine if I take them off close up.

My fiance wears glasses and she can't do lenses or even get laser surgery because her pupils are always abnormally dialated. She didn't get glasses until a year or so ago and said as we got into her car, "Wow, I really shouldn't have been driving."

I'm severely myopic...I'm 20/2800 without any lenses at all and I've got astigmatisms in both eyes that are causing cornea warpage (left eye's much worse than the right). I have to shell out $150 a year for my annual eye exam, which includes annual cornea topography for lens refits plus the battery of visual field and glaucoma tests, etc. With my maternal family's history of vision problems, I am more paranoid about the health of my eyes than I am about the health of the rest of me.

I'm 20/575 in both eyes and my son is 20/375 and 20/350--I pray his eyes stop deteriorating when he stops growing like mine did. My dad threatened to get me a seeing eye dog for my 16th birthday lol. Wearing glasses/ contacts sucks.

I wore contacts for a good year and a half, got the hang of it really quickly.

But as a highschooler I tend to be very lazy, so I just switched back to glasses for the ease of slipping them on and walking out.

I've worn contacts since I was 16, and it's a pain in the ***, but I need them. MUCH better than glasses. The trick is making sure your hands are washed, and not to aggravate your eyes beforehand. Once your eyes are irritated, you're basically done for, and should let your eyes rest. Make sure when you put the contacts in, that they're turned the right way. When they are, you'll see a blue ring around the outer rim of the lens. Put the tip of your finger on the bottom of the lens, and gently place it in the center of your eye but not with alot of pressure. I don't have much of a problem getting them in (maybe because I'm a girl.. less pressure?), but keeping the eyes unirritated is a challenge for me.

Time and patience! Remember if you take some allergy medications it can make your lenses dry.

I'll keep that in mind thanks :)
