it was reported in my local newspaper that the ravens interviewed tony sparano and jason garrett a day after an interview with colts assistant jim caldwell.

tony sparano was repotedly offered the miami job yesterday and will except once the cowgirls season is over.

also kirk ferentz has told the team he is not interested.

one other thing...baltimore director of pro personnel george kokinis is a candidate for the falcons GM position

ESPN says it is rumored that Sparano will be offered the job by Miami. But that Sparano might prefer to coach in Baltimore, and wait out a decsicion from them.

I do not even really know where this guy came from. Except for that Mayne event on Sportscenter.

personally I'm glad, not only is he a college coach (which we've seen in the last several seasons: Spurrier, Petrino, Saban etc...) they can't hang with the big boys, but his Iowa program has been in decline the last 3 seasons or so, so he ain't exactly doing a great job in college lately either, so no thank you anyways is my opinion.

plus going with the Type of guy in which has the experience and knowledge of the game and how its run, is always a plus to have to bank on/off of. because they've been aroun and in the NFL and knows exactly what it takes in order to become a true contender in this league right now....we'll just see....

CBS just did a short take on the coaching options in baltimore. They said there is list of six people to concentrate on:

Sparano

Garret

Chudzinski

OC of the colts (forget his name)

OC of the giants

Marty Shot.

They say that Newsome has ties with Marty back from his playing days. No Rex, No Cowher.

the reasons you gave for Marty coming here are exactly the reasons why he wouldn't work here, remember when he took over the Redskins for that 1 yr? he ran a Training Camp (Military Style which veteran players like Bruce Smith, Lavar Arrington, even Darrell Green complained about) what do you think cry baby Ray Ray, Reed, JO and many others would say after their Country Club experience under Billick?

not that I don't think this club needs something like that, but Marty may just be the other side of the spectrum then what Billick was...a bit to extreme I think in his approach, even more so with veteran players

Because 2 over the hill guys and the worlds laziest LB are the people you are going to use about why Marty shouldn't be in Baltimore. Yes Billick got the players to enjoy club med and it's done so well for us the last few years why would i ever think of changing it

They are looking to interview Chudzinski the Browns offensive Coord. They just annouced it today. The guy has one good year, and all of sudden he's good?

Seriously, Brian Billick had one standout year, and everybody thought HE was a GENIUS. But are any of these GENIUSES humble enough to take constructive critcism from their coaching staff, and make necessary chanes to be effective. An offense can't be set in stone, it has to be flexible given what the Defensive opponent counters with. It has to be multidimensional, and it has to include a QB who can scramble and think on his feet. (Troy Smith excelled at that in only 2 games)

Bill Belichick and Tony Dungee are arguably the best at what they do, but neither one of them calls their own plays.

Marty Schottenheimer is a great coach, but remember he was fired in San Diego, because "Marty ball" was too one dimensional, and emphasized the run too much. A great guy to stress the fundamentals of winning in the trenches though.

I would prefer Rex Ryan to Marty.

Totally agree. However, if we were to get Rex as HC then we need to get a good offensive coordinator because i dont know how much of an offensive genius he could be.

true, i don't want anyone without atleast 3 years of coaching experience. whether it be HC, OC, DC or whatever. hiring someone who " could be " a good coach is like saying...." O.K. ravens fans, get used to losing for awhile "

cowher and ryan are the 1st two to pop in mind when i think of those best suited for ravens style coaching.

And that experience should be WINNING experience, at the top of the game.

No offense but this Jim Caldwell guy from Indianapolis may be well suited to being a QB coach, and should even be considered for our Offensive Coordinator position when it opens up. But since he had an overall losing record at Wake Forest in his last head coaching assignment in COLLEGE (at that!!!), and has no proven experience as a Coordinator in the NFL, I would shy away from him as Head Coach.

I stick by my choice for Rex Ryan as Head Coach, and let HIM choose between all these Offensive "geniuses" who should run the Offense.

Marty, No Thanks. Don't get me wrong Marty is a excellent coach, but he will probably end up being like Marino. Being so good at what he does and never win the Big One. Rex Ryan all the way!!

They fired him because they had the best record in the NFL, and they lost at home in the playoffs last year. They figured it was Marty's reputation of claming up, being to conservative when in tough games. And that cost them the superbowl last year.

I'll tell you this much, I do not want a guy that becomes too conservative in tough situations. We had that with Billick. 4th and inches against a winless team.

yea i agree I don't want another coach that plays too conservative. I think often our play calling was way to conservative sometimes even when we were behind when we needed to put points on the board.

I personally feel that he is the best candidate, I want a coach that has experience as a HC, i also want a HC that doesn't take anything, i dont want a creampuff like billick, i want someone to put this team in its place, no letting veterans getting their way, its a team sport everyone should be treated the same, no more creampuff training camp, maybe thats the reason for so many injuries this year, we need his leadership and guidance, and if anyone can control our team it's him or cowher, not someone who has never had any experince as a HC, and i want to go outside the organization and stay away from ryan, i wonder why SD didnt want him and Miami i think is taking the guy from Dallas, not garrett

It appears that Sparano will coach in Miami and be reunited with Parcells. I really like Jim Swartz as a possible HC. Either Swartz or Ryan.

I like Marty but him being 63 how many years does he want to be a HC in the NFL? I want a HC that can be our HC for atleast another 9 years.

I hate to say it but I see us getting a defensive minded guy like Ryan. I like the man and wish he would stay but I feel like we need to go a different direction and shake things up a bit. Jason Garrett is the way to go right now. We need someone who will be the face of this organization for a long time and able to spice up what has been a conservative offense. Bring in Cam Cameron as our OC and have him work directly with Garrett calling the plays. Combined we will turn around our poor numbers in a season or two. Our defense is stacked and Ozzie will continue to bring in fresh talent to start to replace some of our aging guys. If Rex leaves just abotu anyone with half a defensive mind can step up and succeed with all the talent we have.
