i guy i really like is josh mcdaniels. hes young, he seems to know what he's doing, and look at the success other patriots assistants are having success as head coaches.

i don't believe the ravens will bring in Rex as head coach because i think they're going to want to bring in somebody from outside the organization. also when talking about Rex, i look at past ravens d-coordinators (Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan) and they arn't having success.

no matter who the ravens choose to hire as head coach, i put my faith in ozzie, steve, dick and company to find us the best coach to win. im going to support whoever they bring in.

Dennis Green wouldn't be that bad of a choice. Bring some exciting, he'd really grab the attention of the players.

Good point...maybe its just the offensive talent that makes him look good...never really thought of it that way

Maybe that's why Billick deserved another year??? It was a tough decision, but in the end only history will justify this one...

as it stands right now there will be on going Talks between Cowher and The Ravens and a meeting between the 2 sides is set up sometime soon.....and with a veteran type team like us Ravens have and the amount of potential the young guns present for us/bring to the table....the Ravens are hoping to Entice him back into coaching, just a littler earlier than he expected to.

Just to name a strong candidate and a slightly more liberal prospect:

Bill Cowher (great knowledge of the game and veteran)

Skip Holtz (son of the football mastermind Lou Holtz and has been a success on the college level already)

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions on a potential coach?

I truely believe that Bill Cowher will come out of retirement to coach the ravens if the price is right. He would be a great fit for the ravenes because he will not put up with any nonsense. He has always had a great feel for the game and personally, he left too soon from the game.

Cowher is a great guy.. but is he a Raven??? It would be great ravenge against the Steelers to get him, but I think he will stay retired another year for his daughters...

Honestly, what about Rex Ryan??? There is a great defensive scheme in place with him...and I'm sure he will be alot more open minded with the Offense.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

Jeeeezus people!! Dennis Green?!!! Have you guys looked at his entire career, or are you simply observing the 1998 Vikings season?

If we truly want the man with the highest level of success, the choice is simple. MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER!! He turned a San Diego program that was 4-12 into a 14-2 team in what, three seasons? The only knock on him is his playoff record. But anyone here old enough to remember Marty's MANY playoff appearances...think about this. Was he EVER blown out in any of those games? Did he EVER have the kind of defense the Ravens are KNOWN for?

I'll ask again folks...was there EVER a team more perfectly built to take 'Martyball' to the next level!!????? If Steve B. brings Marty in I fully believe we'll be in the playoffs within 2-3 seasons, maybe even a trip to the Big Dance!!

All together now...MARRRTY! MARRRTY! MARRRTY!!:lol:

Marty would definetly be my second choice if Cowher doesn't want to come back yet. I realize that he has never won a Super Bowl but let's face it- if you are fortunate enough to even win one in your career, you're going to be a part of a fairly rare group, including Brian Billick. The thing is, you have to make it to the play-offs first before you can entertain ideas of being world champions and Schottenheimer, like Cowher, always has his teams prepared to play and be competitive. What we witnessed this year as Ravens fans was an abomination. Their record was hard enough to tolerate but HOW they played and lost was what I had more of a problem with. Every week, they seemed undisciplined, unaware of assignments on the field, out of control with their emotions and generally, not mentally in the game. When I said that they were "collectively stupid", maybe that was a bit much. But it's obvious their heads were not in games and ultimately, that is the responsibility of the coach to solve that problem. You can say what you want about Cowher or Schottenheimer, but I think at this point in time, they are the best choices to turn this team back around. Hiring someone without experience, or even Rex Ryan, will only compound the problem. And I do think whoever is hired, they should get Mike Martz to run the offense. He's never had any trouble putting up points, even with the Lions.

there are those coaching prospects in which they have said they are interested in signing, but there could be the possibility of us signing a coach that was not even mentioned before.....you just never know for sure. until it actually happens. and if the decision pans out for us then GREAT! but if not then well..crap

Yeah true, I would just like to see us develop a franchise coach. I got used to Billick in his 9 years and though I agree with him leaving the team I want to see another coah with his kind of staying power. I feel to do that we will need a younger guy who might take a year or two to develop while we revamp our offense, but then push for another championship. With McDaniels working under Belichick, I think he just has that coaching mentality in him and will turn us back into a Super Bowl contender sooner rather than later.

i can agree with that...have a coach that Makes a Considerable difference with this team and Makes Both Sides of the football (not just 1 side...as football is, for the most part, a 2 sided Battle to be fought from within the Trenches) along with the the power to stay here for a long time, while continueing to make differences on this team as time goes on, year after year.

Crennel and Mangini both serve as examples of Belichickian assistants who are now head coaches.

Mangini had some success in his debut but his team proved to be a mirage and really stumbled this year.

Crennel was coaching for his job this season; it remains to be seen if the Browns are for real or a Jet-like mirage.

And, provided the Browns are for real, it took Crennel a good while to fix them. McDaniels, though I don't agree with him as a choice for head coach, would also need time with the Ravens. You can't expect any random guy in a hoodie to come in and turn this into a super bowl team overnight. Belichick assistants aren't magic elixirs; I'll leave it at that.

Don't forget Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame.

Cause he's sure done a bang-up job at Notre Dame.

Exactly, everyone was high on Charlie Weiss when he left the Patriots and now look whats happening at Notre Dame.

like i said before...their records before dont really mean a thing, what matters is what he can do with the team at hand and turn things around in the positive direction

Weiss serves as an example of the risk you take when you a hire anyone. He lost all his talent at ND and any team will be terrible then. Sure some of the older coaches in the mix are proven winners, but how long will they really stick around becuase we might need more then a season to win another Super Sowl. Mangini had a tough season this year but was near genius in their push last season, give him a healthy (Not going to happen) Chad Pennington and they will do it again. Crennel hung in their in Cleveland and when he finally got the players he deserved they started to win. All of these guys will win given the right players and thats what we have...the right players. Make a few offensive changes and we have ourselves a force to be reckoned with and with a young coach oozing with creativity like McDaniels or Garrett I could see a championship coming our way in the next few years.

in order to be called a "winner" one must first Go through those Hard times and hard ships and learn from mistakes and build upon the momentum and what not...i see your point. but seeing how we have a veteran team with the younger type guys still learning the ropes of the different things and whatever else....i think the best possible option for us to go with right now is with a Proven Veteran Coach and staff, one to which knows what they're doing and knows exactly what it takes in order to ge there.

True, I just don't want to watch us hire an older coach, have a mediocore season as they attempt to play an old style of ball that is becoming extinct in the NFL, and then see him resign after two seasons of struggling to make a difference. Then we are left in this situation all over again with most of our players retired or shipping off to a new team. They way I see it is that our defense is made of mostly veterans and should be able to continue their dominance with a capable DC (if Rex leaves of course) and work with the young coach back and forth. I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to dismantle our defense after all their success. On the other hand we will be seeing a much younger offensive group in coming years and I could see them getting more out of a younger coach who can relate to them rather then an older guy preaching about what worked for them in th 90's. Lets face it, this league is more about offense then ever before and we need a new look.

haha, you got me their. But I see us as more of a run first offense. I don't think we're built to rely on the pass. McGahee is the best offensive weapon we have

True, but I see Figurs becoming a very deep threat

And it looks like he can take a hit as well.

Yeah, took a shot right after the catch. Usually rookies would drop that sort of catch. I could see him in some packages next year, running them deep routes.

Him and Williams could become great deep threats next season.

Someone told me they heard Cowher is #1 on the Ravens coaching list, I haven't heard anything about it but I was told that Cowher is their man if they can get it done.

Anyone else hear this?
