If we do trade Gaither, I can't see why we wouldn't draft a Tackle. But then again a lack of picks in the middle leaves us with a shortage of options.
True.

Charles Brown and Anthony Davis are possibilities if Gaither is traded as are Vladimir Duccassee(sp), Ciron Black and Tony Washington later on if Ozzie decides to trade bak.

I disagree with the final part. I don't see the team drafting anyone who can replace Ray or Ed but that doesn't mean a player couldn't step into their roles and play well. Also, Suggs, Ngata, Ellerbe and Webb(assuming he can come back from the injury) are pretty good building blocks.
Playing well and being playmakers are different though. Suggs right now when in shape is the only play maker we have (minus Ray and Ed). While Webb has shown flashes, and Ngata is a dominant force inside I would hesitate to say Ngata makes game breaking plays. Ellerbe is a solid football player, and hes the guy I want next to Ray but Im not sure he'll be a play making LB. There are guys with potential yes, but there will be a window from when Ray and Ed are gone until our young guys become actual play makers.

Is this the same writing on the wall that had Gooden pegged as the next Ray Lewis, D-Will as the next Brandon Marshall or Dwan Edwards as the next great Ravens pass-rusher?

And the key word in your second part is "at times". Cousins will get swallowed alive during entire games, and *gulp* entire playoff games when we meet that high quality level.

Coming out of the draft the consensus was that Onel will get beat always on the outside but he has that "raw" talent (uniques size w/ long arms). That'll he'll need to make his name in the inside first as a guard. That still holds true today.

Nothings writing on the wall until it happens. Gaither could very well be staying in Baltimore with a long-term deal. Now that would be magical. And ofcourse we will be singing his praise, what are teammates and players suppose to say to the media? You always look out for own.
In the game I'm referring too there was no particular reason for the coaches and Rice to single out Cousins, they did it on purpose. All I'm saying is that in my opinion, and if you gauge the responses and the things coaches have been saying, you get the sense that they really like Cousins, just like they really like Frank Walker.

Harbaugh and Cameron just don't seem to be the kind of guys to blow smoke up your behind about players. That said, I also think you're going to be disappointed by the things that take place as the season draws nearer. Me? I want more draft picks, I want reasonable salaries on our roster, and I want our team to be good this year AND for years to come, which is much less likely if we tie up all our money in players because we value them sentimentally. :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:

Good points. With the way this team drafts though, there's a good possibility they'll draft impact players as Ray and Ed's careers end.

Ray and Ed are the perfect examples considering where they were drafted, the questions surrounding them during the draft process and how quicly them asserted themselves as top players.

Cousins was pretty bad last season, but he still has a ton of potential to become something good. He played with horrible technique last year, but that can be fixed. His run blocking is pretty good, and he has a good mean streak.

I understand some fans are worried about Cousins, but I have a feeling that he is going to be good. I have a lot of faith in the front office and coaching staff. I think that trading Gaither would give us a lot of possibilities in the draft. We could use the Cowboys pick to trade back or our pick to trade back and acquire more picks. Also just think about the draft scenarios that we could have: We could potentially draft Kyle Wilson and Jermaine Greshman or we could go Jermaine Greshman and Devin McCourty or Jared Oderick and Jermaine Greshman. Plus with those situations we would still have our second round pick. We would be able to get two potential impact players for one (Gaither). With everyone worried about Cousins we could use one of our 5th round picks on an OT such as Ciron Black or Tony Washington. I think we could improve our team significantly with a trade for Gaither. I love Gaither and I think he is a great talent, but the money we are going to have to pay him and his health issues scare me a little bit. Also if we move him then Harbaugh and the FO aren't seeing the type of attitude that they want out of Gaither or they think we have the players in place to succeed with him gone or that we improve our team through this move. Thats just my opinion, but it seems to look that way. I also think we could use this deep draft to upgrade our team significantly. Also keep in mind that a player such as Charles Brown or Trent Williams could fall to us at 25 and we could take them to play right tackle. There are a ton of possibilities if this happens...I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

I think we need to draft an OT regardless of if we do trade Gaither or not

Tony Washington is a steal in the later rounds, you just have to get past the "issue."

The Cowboys have cut ties with Flozell Adams, who knows maybe Gaither will end up on the Cowboys.

Thats why I said a drafted player or two who can make an immediate impact puts us into the dominant team category baby! lol

Even though Cousins looked really bad against Woodley last year, it was only his third game and he's still learning how to play the position from a technique perspective. It sounds as if the FO is okay with him being the starter next season at RT. I was pretty surprised at this endorsement, but I suppose if one judged any player on their first three games it would be short of exellent. The word on Cousins coming out of college was that he was talented, but raw and short on football experience. Hopefully it is clicking for him now, because getting another 1st would be great since this draft is supposedly loaded with talent.

I'm not trying to defend Cousins, I haven't seen ANYTHING to make me think he can start at RT.

But Woodley tends to make pretty much everyone look stupid. As much as I DETEST the steelers they do have a very good pass rush. If teams gave up on their tackles every time they get abused by Woodley there wouldn't be many tackles left in the game.

I was thinking what if we traded Gaither for Marshall??

Not a bad deal for either teams
we would trade Gaither because of money, it would cost ALOT to have Marshall

Gaither isn't going anywhere, I doubt that Ozzie is going to leave our Oline in jeopardy after we finally have all of the peices to be a dominant offense.

This is a business and they can't afford to sign Gaither to a long term contract. Since he was a gem found in the supplemental draft (5th round pick) we can get a ridiculous pick for him. We would all like to keep Gaither, but it isn't financially feasible to pay two people top money. That's just my opinion. If they have the money, then by all means, sign him. But to fill holes on our team, business-wise, I like what Truth is saying. We might be able to grab CB Joe Haden if he falls that far. Then get Taylor Mays, DT Cody, and TE Gresham. We just need to offer him and see what happens.

I blame Cam just as much for Cousins struggling in that game because where was the help vs Woodley? Cam goes into a brain freeze against the Steelers and Colts every time. Could you help out your inexperienced backup tackle when he's struggling against one of the best edge rushers in the league with the game on the line? Cam has no idea how to call a game vs that defense. Even it's Gaither and Oher, they too need occasional help vs Harrison and Woodley.

I like gaither a lot..and think he has tremendous upside but he will cost tons of money next year and the only way i think we would trade him is if we got a really good deal..like a first..or an early second along with a 4th or 5th

I am not a cousins fan at all..but Cam kind of gassed him up real hard in the cousins article:
"Cousins has improved his technique and added about 15 pounds of muscle. He now has the strength of a right tackle and feet of a left tackle, Cameron said."

After we got Oher in the draft, Harbs said to Matsko "Best OL in the league" or something to that extent, so I don't think that Gaither is gone unless someone blows us away with an offer. One where we can get a top OT and another contributor.

Dallas just released Flozell Adams. I've been hearing Dallas has alot of interest in Gaither so maybe the writing is on the wall.

Gotta trust what Ozzie does. Oher to the left and maybe Cousins to right or pick up a OT in the draft.

If he doesn't go get set for a stellar season. I think we can go all the way!
