If Gaither Were To Go...

Gaither plays a more important position than Grubbs and should be given a longterm contract first.
But one could argue Grubbs is a better player. Pro Football Weekly had him on their mid-season All-Pro team last year and while he did have a few bad games(GB), there's a reason most of the team's long runs came straight up the gut. Plus, he's been the one constant along the o-line in the three seasons he's been a Raven.

I know that, but re-read my post. I am saying that with the type of money Gaither will command, will we have enough left to repay Ngata, Grubbs, Rice and other key players, that's what I'm saying.

Valid point. I'm sure the FO sees Grubbs as a major part of our power running game. Plus he doesn't have the durability or work ethic corners that Gaither does. Should be interesting to see how Gaither, Grubbs, and Yanda getting longterm extensions plays out.

Yep. As much as I'd prefer the o-line stay together, I have a feeling Gaither will get traded during the draft.

I agree. He will be traded, I think the team really likes Oher being the Blind Side(pun intended) protector of Flacco over Gaither, unless at the last minute Gaither gives us a Hometown Discount to stay here and sign a 6-7 year deal, than I don't expect him to be a Raven after this season, I really hope somehow we can get an extra 1st rounder in 2011 for him, I'll take an extra 1st rounder next year like I explained, with an early pick we could benefit from one of the 3 WRs I mentioned (Floyd, Jones and Green) and pick them up to get Joe that young receiver to grow with.

An 2011 1st round pick is highly unlikely.

And again man, Baldwin is just as talented as Green Jones and Floyd.

If we could get a 2nd and a 3rd for him it would basically be like getting two 2nds because this class is so deep. Mayock said he had something like 70 players with 2nd round grades. Let's see what we can reel in with the big guy, remember so far it hasn't been much.

^ Made me laugh. But on a serious note, I agree. Especially with the talent level of this draft, I would rather have a 2010 1st rounder if the deal is in fact made.

if we were to get rid of gaither i would want to see him go to the lions. they need a tackle to protect stafford and have an amazing first round pick. even though its highely unlikely to happen it would give us a great place to pick whoever oz man wants

Is it his name or do you disagree Baldwin is as good as them?

There's no reason to let Gaither go unless his asking price is absolutely exorbitant and he's not willing to budge. However, from his recent comments, it seems like he'll tell Rosenhaus to do what it takes to keep him in Baltimore for the foreseeable future, and that's definitely a good thing for this team.

It's the Redskins, we are talking about Dan Snyder. If they are dumb enough to pay Haynesworth $100 Million they will be stupid enough to over pay Gaither and give us their 2011 1st Round Pick. Plus, we tendered him at a 1st, now I would love an extra pick this year but we can also get their first next year and throw in a 3rd or 4th this year.

All I was saying was if we were able to get the Skins 2011 pick, I was saying it would probably be in the top 10 or early enough where if any of those 3 dropped we could get them.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't want to send him to a team who won't compete until another 2-3 years. He'll be wasted on the Lions. That's just too harsh to send him to the Lions.

Just thought I would add some fuel to the fire by saying that the Cowboys are releasing Flozell Adams.....which means they have no left tackle now.....which means Gaither could be targeted by the Cowboys. Just thought it might be something everyone should keep an eye on. Here is the link: Adam Schefter

I can't say that seeing Dallas dumping multiple tackles makes me feel good about keeping Gaither...

Dallas would be crazy not to give up their first for Gaither. They are pretty much forced to draft a tackle with their first pick and I'm sure they know they wouldn't be able to find one who is as good as Gaither at that spot. Considering he is a proven LT and only 24, combined with the fact that they currently don't have a starting LT, this should be a no- brainer for them. Also interesting to see the article here today about Cosuins being a starter in the wings.

I know it's just words but Cam Cameron seems to like Cousins and thinks he can be a starter. He only did bad against Woodley who we all know is one of the best pass rushing LBs in the league. He also says he has a great work ethic according to the most recent article.

Hey if they are confident with him, who are we to go against it. Not to mention he will have more experience.

Ozzie has a plan. No, his moves haven't always worked but if Gaither is traded away, I don't think it will destroy the offense.

With WRs who can get open quicker and a safety-valve in Rice, I don't think Flacco will drop-back and search for options this season as much like we've seen him do the past two seasons.

It's not Cams fault. He has to deal with what he's given. Ofcourse he's going to talk good about Oniel, because what choice does he have?

Oniel is a great backup. Scratch that, an okay backup. He'll play good against bad teams, but he'll get eaten up alive by the Colts, Steelers and Bengals. Our main competitors.

One would hope. But if we can't hold the line against pressure teams, Flacco better hope his recievers get open quickly this year.

I'm not for or against trading Gaither. I like him as a player, but the team could know something I don't. But going into the season with Cousins as a starting RT is bad news for us.

I officially declare myself the "Resident Cousins Hater" (P.S. Don't even attempt to change my mind. Only Oniel can do this (which isn't possible))

Cousins was a project when the team drafted him. His poor play and temper has been an issue a number of times(most notably in the loss to the Pittsburgh last year). However, the coaches are the ones who deal with him on almost a daily basis from the start of training camp. They know what he's capable of and if the OC believes he can be a starter, why should we fans dismiss him?

As the "Official Resident Cousins Hater" , and without going into too great of a personal attack, his brain is going to limit him from being a quality RT.

Defenses will feed on his errors and Cousins will not be able to react to adjustments. He'll get outsmarted, outplayed and downright embarrassed by many of the teams on the schedule, Jets, Colts, Steelers and Bengals. He'll rely on his size too much and will get caught time after time for costly penalties.

Think Frank Walker, but bigger.

I hope Oniel proves me wrong and becomes a beast, but until that time, he does not get the benefit of the doubt from me.

You could be right. But then again, the light may go one for Cousins and he could become a quality RT(maybe).

Regardless, there are a good number of NFL-caliber tackles in the draft the Ravens could draft to try and fill the void if Gaither is indeed traded.

Now isnt even the time to do even flirt with this idea. We're 2 impact drafted players away from being a serious top 3 or 5 team that can smash on teams(given Flacco improves and we diversify our offense). Why would we even entertain Cousins starting? Our defensive playmakers have like 2 years left in the tank max, then we have to go into a full fledged rebuild mode instead of reloading on defense.

And I do hope that some sort of light goes on. But as a fan, I don't feel comfortable with seeing him as our only true option at RT if Gaither gets traded. I'd prefer to see him fill in from time to time against high quality teams before we hand over the reigns of an entire season to him.

If we do trade Gaither, I can't see why we wouldn't draft a Tackle. But then again a lack of picks in the middle leaves us with a shortage of options.

Eh, sorry Pu but the writing is on the wall. Oniel Cousins WILL start at RT for the Ravens at some point. It's obvious. Did you not notice that when we had Cousins in last year not only were the coaches pumping him up the Rice was pumping him up as well. I remember him dedicating the success in one of the games to Cousins. The team knows he has talent but he just needs the confidence to go out there and use it. Gaither was a SURPRISE. We got him in the supplemental draft, I doubt if he was ever in our long term plans, read: Michael Oher.

As far as Cousins being abused by PREMIERE PASS RUSHERS in the league... all OTs get punk'd at times. Gaither did, Oher did, and so did Cousins. Oher is the best tackle on the squad, Gaither has the most experience, and Cousins is coming into his own. I think this is the season you're all going to be surprised.

It's like the Stover situation; sometimes, from a business standpoint, you have to take risks. This decision is one of those risks. I hope Gaither goes to the cowboys and we get that pick, then parlay our other first round pick into a couple more in the later rounds. :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:

I disagree with the final part. I don't see the team drafting anyone who can replace Ray or Ed but that doesn't mean a player couldn't step into their roles and play well. Also, Suggs, Ngata, Ellerbe and Webb(assuming he can come back from the injury) are pretty good building blocks.

Is this the same writing on the wall that had Gooden pegged as the next Ray Lewis, D-Will as the next Brandon Marshall or Dwan Edwards as the next great Ravens pass-rusher?

And the key word in your second part is "at times". Cousins will get swallowed alive during entire games, and *gulp* entire playoff games when we meet that high quality level.

Coming out of the draft the consensus was that Onel will get beat always on the outside but he has that "raw" talent (uniques size w/ long arms). That'll he'll need to make his name in the inside first as a guard. That still holds true today.

Nothings writing on the wall until it happens. Gaither could very well be staying in Baltimore with a long-term deal. Now that would be magical. And ofcourse we will be singing his praise, what are teammates and players suppose to say to the media? You always look out for own.
