Anquan Boldin And Ray Rice?

26 posts in this topic

Im scared that now that me have Boldin Stallworth and Mason on the line Flacco will get to caught up in passing and forget Ray rice.. Ray Rice last year was simply unstoppable and if he get less attention now im going to be devistated. The ravens have always been a running team. Last season in the winter when we started running more we started winning more, or doing way better. And when we passed more not so much. So i really hope we are still a run over pass team. But i love Boldin alot so i cant wait to see what he does

I cant see the downside to having that kind of variety of offense. Ray Rice will be a huge building block for this team and I think he'll remain as such. If anything with this he'll only be more successful.

A good WR can turn a RB into a great one. Now they won't stack the box as much, which = Ray Rice getting more yards. Don't worry, I was a huge fan of his in college, and want him to do well, but if we win the Super Bowl while he rides the bench, I think we'll all live. But, I do want to see him succeed.

Less touches(specifically in the passing game) will only preserve Rice.

The ability to run the ball is still important and I'm sure the Ravens will continue to pound the rock but the more Flacco grows as a QB, the more passing we'll see. I have no problem with that because it isn't about how you move the ball in the NFL, points are what matter.

Exactly. Everyone will get their turn to get the ball, between Mason who is one of the best route runners in the league on a #2 corner, Boldin who is our playmaker and can go over the middle, and the speedy Stallworth, Ray Rice is going to get as much receptions as last year most likely. But that doesn't mean we'll stop using him in the run and he can still break off a big gain without much people all over him.

i personally think its gonna compliment each aspect that much more, ... first the added recievers will stretch the field and compliment rice on runs, and rice running will compliment the passing game by bringing defenders in the box.

lol... Our offensive coordinator decides whether to get caught up in passing, not Flacco. And Cam is the type of guy that switches it up to keep defenses out of synch, so don't expect a 1 dimentional offense, even with the playmakers we have added at WR.

Teams late in the season, especially the Colts, figured out that if you double Mason on the short outside and spy Ray Rice over the short middle, you take away our best plays.

Boldin and Stallworth allow us to exploit the intermediate middle and deep routes, respectively. This makes it so much harder for any team to take away our bread and butter when you've got four places to go. They can't just sit on Mason anymore and see our offense grind to a halt.

Hopefully, Heap will be a beneficiary of all this as well.

Cam decides Rice's carries but if you mean passes to him, yeah I would expect less dumpoffs, what with Boldin and Flacco's development into his third year. Rice's explosiveness in the passing game goes up when you can throw to him on screens and such and it's not so obvious because he's our leading receiver, like last year.

what a good problem to have. I agree with the rest of the posts...this is only going to help Rice. He was so great last year and such a star, but pretty much our only playmaker on offense. Having more weapons at WR is only going to open things up for him.

Rice is not the kind of player I want to see get 25 to 30 carries a game. Now I'm not doubting his durability, but hes a little guy, and with Willis and LeRon, theirs no need to overwork Rice, which we did last year.

Also, even if we do become pass happy, a RB like Rice wouldn't have a hard time getting involved in the receiving game. It doesn't matter how good the receivers are are, he'll get his catches. Just look at Marshall Faulk.

Agreed . If Rice is to the 25 to 30 times a game, I'm sure the team would rather at least 5 of those touches be receptions. Still, the more weapons around him, the better.

I don't think Flacco will become too pass-happy. Cam Cameron will devise a system that will ensure that both Flacco and Rice are both effectively used. Our offense will be more dynamic than ever this year.

What we need most is BALANCE. Balance will keep the opposing defense honest, making both phases of offense more effective. But when we do pass, we better pass downfield and limit the checkdowns. The upgrades in our WR corps and a healthy Joe Flacco will give us another dimension on offense and make us more versatile and explosive. So please, let's not waste this opportunity to open it up.

There's nothing wrong with checkdowns and short passes. Thats basically like running, it drains the clock and keeps our defense/their offense off the field. Plus we have the rush attack to gain first downs after she short passes. Not saying its not good to have WR's that can help Flacco light the backfield up, especially if we're behind.

I said limit the checkdowns. There's nothing wrong with a couple here and there, but it definitely will not be the main component of our passing game this year.

It will be interesting when the defenses Stack the box and we start playing pass happy offense. Then they load up the secondary and we result to our usual running attack....
The end result Beauty....

naw bruh! if anything, this Ravens WR tandem will only help preserve Ray Rice. remember, Flacco always dumped off ot him in check downs and hit the sideline routes with Mason. very predictable!

now? we will be more balanced on offense and can both run and pass at will. i am looking forward to the Ravens having a great season!

I think they will rely on the run more to get the passing game going. Can you remember how many times Flacco looked like a statue in the pocket as he was getting hit last year. I think Boldin will will make it easier on our run game and Rice will have a HUGE year.

Now just see if anyone bites on the McGahee contract so we can grab us some defensive help and we are on our way to the show.

I think he'll do even better then last year, and get alot more yards with Boldin blocking.
This.

It's great that we have so many options on offense now. Last year if Mason wasn't open Flacco had to chip it down to Ray Rice, and if Rice was covered it was a sack or INT.

This will open up Rice's game more if anything. The reason why Rice struggled vs the Colts was because our receivers were non-existent during that game and their linebackers were just spying on him all day.

It's not up to Flacco to get "pass happy", it's up to Cam. I, and I'll probably be blasted for this, am of the opinion that we will actually not balance our offense out this year, but indeed switch to a passing team. Why? Because look at the teams last year in the Super Bowl. Look at the teams in the playoffs with the exception of us and the Jets. Passing the ball wins games. Even the Steelers showed that they could have a deadly passing attack when Ben threw what, like 500 yards in a game last year? With that said, I still think that Rice will excell, more so in his third year, but not because we're constantly running the ball, but because Boldin will only keep defenses honest, and not stack the box so much. Cam Cameron only had Vincent Jackson, Floyd and Gates in SD, so he knows how to make a playbook with 60/40 passing, maybe even more. I also think we will see more passing when we are about 20 or so yards out of the end zone.

I just think our offense will be more efficient now that we have more viable threats at wide receiver. Defenses have to play us more honest now. We should be able to punish teams with a potent running game and burn defenses with play action all season.
