Ravens Could Play On Thanksgiving?

30 posts in this topic

Though this is a Jets-centric story, there's a Baltimore-related twist to it. The New York Jets have agreed to host one of the three nationally-televised games on Thanksgiving day and the Ravens are one of seven possibilities to face the Jets, giving Baltimore a 14% chance of playing that date for the first time in franchise history.

Though the Jets host 8 home games, the Lions are continuing their Thanksgiving day tradition and must host an AFC team this year per the rotation. The Lions host only two AFC teams in the Jets and the Patriots, so Detroit would play New England by default.

The storyline of Rex Ryan hosting his former team would be intriguing, and the national spotlight would add a level of drama that would likely amp up an already-emotional game.

Odds are... we'll be playing NY on Thansgiving. New York Ravens VS Baltimore Ravens is too drama filled to not let air on television.

It would be the most interesting game in Thanksgiving since a while. The last 2 years have been terrible.

i actually read this article this morning on the sun, and the first thing i thought of was how sweet that would be. Before the Ravens became a team, my favorite team was the Lions, cause i loved Barry Sanders. So thanksgiving games were huge for me. But for now that im a die hard ravens fan, I think this would be incredible to have the franchises first thanksgiving game against the Jets. We'll see soon how that plays out lol

Only thing that would make it better is if were at M&T :)

But I'd love to watch them play on turkey day, I might actually not fall asleep this time after consuming all the grub.

Usually the NFL doesn't like to waste a big game on thanksgiving. I think their thinking is that they will get great ratings anyway cuz everyone watches, even if the games are terrible (see last season). I don't think they will want such an intriguing game to be played on thanksgiving when they can play it on another week and get great ratings.

Lets go kick the door in on their turf, take the turkey leg out of Rex' s hand and jam it down the Jets throats!!!!
Nice. One would think that Rex would petition the league not to force his team to play on Thanksgiving. Its prime feeding time.

Okay I admit, that was pretty mean.

Any reasons why or anything?

Anyway, a matchup against the Jets on Thanksgiving would be great compared to the last year's ones.. Seriously, Packers @ Lions, Raiders @ Cowgirls and Giants @ Broncos..? :sarcasticclap:

That would be interesting, though I'd much rather it be at M & T Bank but that's not how the schedule works. Yes it is possible they could play the Ravens on Thanksgiving. This would be 2 prime time games for the Jets as I have pointed out the Jets are hosting the 1st Monday Night Football game of the year, and it's possible we could play them on MNF as well. I was looking at their home schedule and since the Patriots are a given to Detroit, the other possibilities other than the Ravens include Division rivals Buffalo and Miami, Bengals(rematch of their playoff game last year), Texans, Packers, and the Vikings. The League has a very hard choice here on who to give the Jets for the Thanksgiving game. Tons of possible good games, it will be interesting to see what the league comes up with and luckily we will find out this Sunday or Monday.

I don't think they could play a Thanksgiving night N.F.L. Game at M & T Bank Stadium because they have Loyola vs. Calvert Hall in the mid morning every year and they have to clean up the place after the game.

Well there is a game played at M&T Bank every year on Thanksgiving, which I go to every year. Go Hall.

It wouldn't be at M&T Bank Stadium. It would be at the Jets new stadium. THEY are the ones who are hosting the Thanksgiving game. And I assume the Cowboys and Lions are hosting the other two games, even though I swear Goodell said he would look into changing it to draw more interest on such special games.

Anyway, it won't be in Baltimore. If the Ravens play on Thanksgiving this year, it will be in the Jets new stadium. And that is the only way it will happen.

Man, the Jets plus the Steelers in Prime Time this year? Potentially could be a huge year in terms of finally being on the national stage. I guess we have to learn to win in Prime Time somehow, seeing as we'll be there against a lesser talented team from a different conference with an automatic win.

Update: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/30/schedule-release-could-be-coming-april-13/
Ryan Cardinal of Vikings.com (in some parallel universe, there's a Ryan Viking working for the Cardinals), has found via TVGuide.com that ESPN2 will air an "NFL Schedule Release Special" on Tuesday, April 13, at 7:00 p.m. Cardinal also points out that, more immediately, the preseason schedule will be released on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ET.

It remains to be seen whether the league will announce in advance of April 13 the Week One prime-time games or the Thanksgiving games. In past years, those contests were announced as part of the annual league meetings. This year, the announcement was delayed by a day and then scuttled completely.
So it looks like a week before the Draft on April 13th the full schedule will be released, and tomorrow at 3 the Pre-Season schedule will be announced. I guess now we can just wait and see if they announce the Week 1 games before April 13th or announce those games on April 13th along with the full schedule.
