When We Play The Jets

38 posts in this topic

We all know that we get the opportunity to go beat the Jets on their home turf this season. We don't have a big gauge on how we will fare out against them. However, I remember us dominating on 1st string last pre-season. Its not a good gauge because his players were learning his 3-4 Scheme. So the question is, after having our offense see Ryans scheme over and over for the past few years, should we know how to handle it better than any other team in the league??

I think we will fair pretty well because of being familar with it. Its still gonna be tough protecting Flacco. Because they have the corners they do, they can send multiple blitzers every down.

Nobody is going to handle that defense. That's simply my opinion. Of course, injuries happen and the "off"season is a grueling time. So we don't know what the rosters will look like come game day.

But in my opinion, that defense with Kris Jenkins back and Cromartie opposite of Revis... with Rex Ryan's schemes, no team will be able to handle them. And, yes... Flacco will have another season of experience, but he can't even handle the Colts defense, so I don't expect him to all of a sudden be the guy who recognizes blitzes and coverages disguised as well as Rex hides them. Not to mention Rex will have plenty of personal motivation on that game and problem throw even MORE tricks at the Ravens.

With all that said, the Ravens offense has all the pieces to be more productive than it ever has been.

Think it will be a low scoring slug fest full of big hits and 3 and out. How ever with things they way they are right now I think we have a upper hand with our improved pass offense. We will be in their house but I say we pumble them, because I am ravens fan.

From Harris to Leonhard and from Pace to Revis, the Jets defence certainly looks minatory.
With the addition of Cromartie, all signs point to another fantastic season for this defence. Revis and Cromartie is arguably the best CB duo in the league as far as I'm concerned and with the likes of Scott and Harris in the LB unit, it appears as if there's no stopping for them.
Although, I still believe the Ravens have the upper hand in a matchup with them. We are certainly looking for a low scoring game between those two teams but if we pound the run with both Rice and McGahee, we will emerge victorious. We shouldn't look to pass the ball too much since they are very dangerous on their secondary and Ryan will use all of his trickery to neutralize Flacco with his blitzers.
All in all, it's a matchup the Ravens will have to be extremely careful at.

With all due respect to the Jet's, I think we can beat them.

With absolutely no respect whatsoever to Rexy & the Sanchettes, I think we will beat them. :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:

We know what's coming... we'll be ready.

Oh, and don't throw at Darrelle Revis.

I think Boldin's size and physicality will eat Revis up.

I think Cameron will keep Boldin away from Revis, unless Revis is told to follow him all game... I see Revis staying on one side of the field, taking on Mason more than likely.

The Jets certainly have a formidable D on paper and its likely they continue to play well but I won't say they're unbeatable just yet.

In my opinion, the strategy to beating them will be simple: run at Cromartie, throw at Cromartie and the yards and TDs will come. LOL! And their safeties aren't exactly great in covereage. They can make plays but aren't elite.

Running the ball up the gut won't be easy but getting a hat on Jenkins and Scott would make it easier.

As for Revis, I would test him with a screen or double move once every two drives but not on deep throws which he tracks better than some WRs.

Revis Island and Cromartie Cay. I think the best way to beat the Jets is at their own game. Smash mouth, run the ball football.

Putting Rice in space would be the obvious way, Scott couldnt do it against Johnson, and although Rice isnt as fast he is just as shifty and breaks more tackles. Scott misses tackles, and Harris in coverage against Rice is an absolute nightmare for the Jets. Getting Cromartie on Boldin in coverage is also essential, and getting Boldin the ball early close to the LOS so he can abuse Cromarties sally tackling. Exposing their LBs, and their brutal dime and safeties when Rex blitzs the house.

The Jets are just a more hyped up version of the Billick-era Ravens. Good Defense, Decent running game, but their QB just threw 20 picks last season. Not even the great Boller threw 20 picks in his rookie season.

Agreed, but that's OUR game. The jets just try to emulate it.

Hmm lets see... Revis and Eric Smith will prob. double cover Boldin, Cromartie will "try" to cover Mason that leave leonhard to cover heap or Stallworth. So that leaves Rice to get open. So the way I look at it, unless Rex just goes with a bunch of covers, someone will always be open.

The key to this match-up will be the O-lines, if you ask me. Both teams have a very big, young, and talented offensive lines and it will come down to who can protect their QB longer. We all know that both the teams can run the ball and that both teams have a sexy defense, but what QB can come out and make the plays to win the game? I think that our offense looks a little better now that we have a legit WR corps, but it still comes down to the blocking from Birk and company.

our offense is and will be waaaay greate than theirs.
their defense has ours by a smidget because of our secondary problems.

if we fix the secondary and revamp the pass rush we will be unstoppable. not only to the jets.

Great point. The battle in the trenches would be even more important in a game between the Ravens and the Jets.

As improbable as this sounds, if were Mattison, I'd simply run a Cover 2 D in passing situations. I'd move Ray outside to cover the flats, Ellerbe inside to be the Mike LB who drops in the middle, bring in Gooden to cover the other flats and have Suggs, Ngata, Pryce and J.J. along the line on the obvious passing downs.

Almost all young QB struggle mightily against the Cover 2 and the Ravens have the players to run it.

Precisely, the Ravens played a lot of coverages similiar to what you have explained this past year anyways due to the secondary not coming on until later in the year. This type of thing typically screws with young QB's minds and forces turnovers, but I still think we have to find a way to bring the heat. Either way it looks to be a very good match-up of two talented, young teams.

I'd take Hall and Joseph over Revis and Cromartie any day.

The Jets defense doesn't scare me. If anything, the Jets should be the ones that are scared. Their offense looked horrific last season and they were carried to the AFC on the heels of their defense.

Doesn't matter how good your defense is, if you can't score points you'll end up with a top 5 pick and a 17 week year.

No, my opinions aren't "ludicrous".

Cromartie is a soft corner who REFUSES to play the run and is avereage-at-best in coverage.

You can believe ESPN and other media outlets stating Revis and Cromartie are the best CB combo in the league(despite not playing a down together yet) all you want. But a lot of people that follow the NFL will tell you Hall and Joseph are the best CB duo in the league.

Eh, I don't argue that Cromartie and Revis are amazing together, but I also don't see Hall and Joseph as elite. I saw them exploited a number of times last year and generally am not impressed by their size, speed, or coverage. They're good, I don't deny that, but I would take Revis and a scrub over Hall and Joseph.

Revis is LOCKDOWN, you just don't throw at the guy. Cromartie is jumpy and soft but he will have an advantage with the Jets because they blitz an obscene amount and all the deep balls are going to come Cromartie's way. When was Cro at his best? When Merriman was still on 'roids murdering people in the trenches and hurrying QBs. We're going to see the same thing in New York. :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:
