So i was looking around ESPN.com and came across a blog about J Russ at Oakland, and ill say it again....Wow, this guy is a true bum!! They are saying that he didn't show up Workouts, yes i know its voluntary but come on man...This guy might be up there as one of the biggest busts to come from the draft..All he cares about is his money and them earrings he never takes out....I had to vent to fellow raven fans and how proud i am to be a fan of Baltimore, our players have class, respect, and great chemistry so for that------Thank you to the Baltimore Ravens players , and also the Front Office and every employee who strives for excellence in our Organization......Let me know your thought on J Russ im curious if im the only one to think this about him ( :deadhorse:) <--- Thats Al Davis right now with the stick haha

Yeah, it makes me wonder how guys like that make it through college. Makes me think there needs to be stricter academic requirements if bums/thugs like him and all the others who wasted an NFL opportunity can get to the point where they can cash in on a big paycheck without playing an NFL game.

Also, no man in the history of men has looked good with an earring on.

They sure have tried, though. Most fail, Turquoise studs are the game changer.

And this is why I say all the time, there needs to be a CAP on what A ROOKIE can make in the league. You pay a top 10 pick between 35-75 million dollars without playing one NFL Snap. This particular situation states my case on why that cap needs to be in place OR there need to be a whole ton of incentives that makes these guys earn their money. I hope they crap can him. Hes looking to be a bigger bust than Ryan Leaf here in a few years. Hard to believe that Matt Ryan is making almost as much as Peyton Manning....does anyone see the problem with that?

But Matt Ryan proved himself. Russell never has and probably never will.

Russell is a NFL lost hope. Sure, he has an amazing arm, his spirals are a work of art, he's tall, quick and has good vision... but he's grossly out of shape, extremely inaccurate, acts like he doesn't care and is one of the highest paid players in the NFL.

Sadly.... the Raiders organization is DEAD set on him being the starter.

This shouldn't really surprise anyone. This is the same guy that has shown up to each camp overweight, held out for part of his rookie season because he wanted more money and assumed he would be inserted immediately into his starting job, and is reportedly the last to arrive and first to exit every day.

JaMarcus Russell has shown no sign of NFL talent nor any leadership ability whatsoever. He's only the starter because Al Davis doesn't like wasting money (even though he's wasted lots of it -- see: Javon Walker, DeAngelo Hall, etc.) If Russell really cared about his team, he'd take the initiative to show up for these workouts, voluntary or not. Set an example for the team. If you're not willing to sacrifice for the team, then why should the team sacrifice for you?

As much as I'd be about the team, if I were a Raiders player, I would corroborate with the veterans that are secure in their jobs and intentionally make Russell look bad. It may be highly unprofessional, but if it becomes an instance where the entire offense suffers because of poor QB play, Al Davis would have no choice but to bench Russell. And even if the plan backfires and I get cut, then I can at least get out of the Black Hole in Oakland.

Purple Punishment is right in that Russell is the prime example of why there should be a rookie cap; Matthew Stafford's contract only further validates that.

And after all the scrutiny for missing that first day, JaMarcus Russell has now reported to the Raiders' offseason training program and is allegedly in great shape. Russell, however, is NOT being made available to the media. (LINK)

It's just arrogant.

It's one thing to be a "not so good" player but have the determination to improve yourself.

but if I were getting paid as much as Russell, and doing as bad as he is, my pride would not allow me to sit at home and just stay bad. I would be at practices, voluntary or not trying to make myself worth the fat contract. Or at least show that I'm willing to work hard to improve myself, which he clearly doesn't show.

Reports are emerging that JaMarcus Russell showed up late to voluntary workouts at a "slimmed down" 271 pounds. (LINK)

Umm...his playing weight is listed as 260 pounds. Looks like that one unnamed Raiders source was lying when he said Russell was in great shape. 271 pounds is pretty sad, especially considering that his playing weight of 260 pounds was still pretty bad even for his height.

For comparison, former Giants backup QB Jared Lorenzen is listed at 284 pounds -- Lorenzen was the heaviest QB in the NFL when he was still in the league. For Russell to, at one time, presumably have been as big as Lorenzen or bigger is both astounding and embarassing.

Maybe they're hoping he'll be big enough to stop anyone from knocking him down. It's not like their O-line can do it.

Considering the shape he was in, 271 is slimmed down. Apparently, according to NFL Network, he'd been up to and in excess of 300lbs. I brought it up on La Canfora's live chat assuming it was incorrect but he confirmed it.

Hey, knowing Al Davis, if Russell blows it at QB they may try and turn him into an o-lineman. Can you imagine Jamarcus protecting somebody's blindside? :stretcher:

Russell is definitely a top draft bust, and his attitude is not making it any better.

Agreed and with his recent weight gain makes anybody wonder where his mindset is. The NFL can make or break careers and lives. Sorry J but you are the weakest link... Goodbye

I'm not even 171 lbs. but for one of his pay checks, Ray could go helmet to helmet to me and it would all be good! At 271, young man could go "Blindside", though I think Sandra Bullock would pass on the role! Jesse James, really?
