What Will Boldin Bring To Our Offense?

19 posts in this topic

Ok so just wondering everyone thoughts on what Boldin will/can bring to our offense. I have many ideas, but im only gonna list a few to leave room for other responses.

1. physical reciever who will go up and fight for anything thrown his way
2. an added presense accross the middle (since heap has fell off the map)
3. ability to either make a guy miss, or run over dbs on short plays or WR screens
4. great work ethic that can potentially push other WRs to achieve more
5. great YAC and finding open running lanes
6. prob one of the biggest..... run blocking

anyone else have anything to add?

Boldin will likely bring to this offense what he did to the Cards. He moves the chains, picks up YACs, catches balls all over the field thriving over the middle and is very good in the red-zone despite not being a jump-ball specialist.

I think what he brings to the table is to stretch out our offense. He will allow for a double team to occur thus leaving a wr wide open for the deep pass.

I traded Boldin to the Steelers, then traded Frank Walker to the Steelers for Boldin, and made Walker stick Boldin when I played the steelers.....Had 337yds receiving! Frank Walker actually played better in the game too, no PI penalties. Good Job Frank

I think we'll probably see more third down conversions and more effectiveness in the red zone. The addition of Boldin should make that offense less predictable; I do not envy the Defensive coordinators who have to plan schemes to contain Flacco, Rice, Mcgahee, Boldin, Mason, Stallworth/Clayton and whoever else we can throw at them.

And in a related topic, imagine what this will do for our defense?

I just hope he brings a nasty attitude towards each and every defense we face in catching balls, running over db's and blocking down field to the point that he is just kncking people out! :34853_brickwall:

Boldin will hopefully be a deep threat for us. If not him, then Stalls because they're both fast and relatively tall. Let's just hope Stalls hasn't lost too much of that speed he had before missing a year. As much as we need an over the middle threat, Flacco is the type of QB that should be throwing 50 yard TD passes because his arm is super strong and our O is usually so predictable but now we have WRs that can actually catch the deep ball. Bewteen Boldin and Stalls, I'm guessing on of them will be used as a deep threat and the other used as a primary slot WR.

Boldin is a quality WR but he's never been a deep threat. If he ever catches a deep pass, it'll be because of a blown coverage.

Regardless, he's very good and at times, elite doing everything else.

Q will bring a lot to the offense. First off as a Noles fan it great to have Q.

As for the things Q will do for us, well he'll just give defenses something else to think about.

He'll help keep the offense on the field by converting 3rds, which will also allow the defense to stay on the sidelines.

He will free up guys like stallworth and clayton to work against 2nd/3rd tier Cbs and safeties. Maybe even LBs

From a player standpoint, I think the person that will benefit the most from having Q around will be a young Marcus Smith.

Smith is almost a clone of Q, maybe not as much talent, but definitely some of the same skill sets.

Smith is a guy who used his RB background at New Mexico to be a very reliable WR. Much like Q he's a big strong guy with deceptive speed and quickness. He'll break a lot of tackles and be another option on 3rd downs.

I think learning from a guy like Q will do wonders for Marcus Smith. I just hope the guy can bounce back 100% healthy this year.

I disagree I've seen him do very good at being a deep threat and making long TD catches. Of course when you have Fitz on the other side of you it's easier to get the favorable matchups downfield, but I know Boldin can still make those circus catches where he has to outleap a defender or whatever and go the distance.

I mean at the very absolute least Boldin will play that semirole Fitz has been playing and cause matchup problems leaving the field and other WRs more open.

I'm not saying Boldin can't make plays deep but that's no what his game is built on. He doesn't have the speed to just separate from corners the way Andre Johnson and Steve Smith do. Watch any highlight video of his; the majority of the catches are in between the hashes or intermediate routes.

very good points, i agree with them all. I think hes definately gonna push other players, and just as you said, help mold Smith into a physical presence also.

I also think hes gonna help Flacco tremendously. I feel like we could see Flacco being more decisive, making quicker decisions, being sacked less. Boldin can get open, and even when hes not, he will get the ball in traffic, and once Joe sees that, he wont second guess himself about decisions and hold the ball.

Also , with a guy like Boldin who can find open lanes, get YAC and basically maul people for the extra 2-3 yards, i see Ozzie using alot more WR screens. It hasnt worked for us in the past, cause Clayton and Mason both like to avoid contact on basically.. fall down to avoid it. I can see not only Boldin getting the ball on WR screens, but i can see stallworth getting the ball with Boldin blocking on his side.
