Bazooka Joe

Divens, McKinney, Talavou

Amongst those three, I think we have some solid potential for our future at DT. Of these three guys, which one would you say has the greatest potential/upside? Also how would you rank them?

Here is my thoughts:

1. I think Kelly Talavou has the biggest upside as he has pocket collapsing ability. I think he could blossom into a passrusher up the middle as well as a strong run stuffer. The others I believe are just run stoppers.

2. My ranking of the 3.

a. Talavou
b. McKinney
c. Divens

I think we are set at DT. Just need to draft some real/pure DEs.

I haven't seen enough of any them to rank them fairly. But I'm hoping one of them can start pushing Gregg for his NT position.

I like all three, and give Divens the edge in upside with, I think, the best blend of size and athleticism.

All three will be good run stuffers, hopefully we can get some interior pass rush from at least one at well. We need more of that from our DT's.

I think Gregg will look like his old self this year since his knee should be back to full strength. He's still got a couple of solid years in him.

I have seen a lot of mock drafts where Bmore fans are commenting on them and asking for guys like Brian Price and Jared Odrick, and I really don't understand why when we have guys like Talavou, Divens, and McKinney behind Gregg and Ngata. We have plenty of depth in this area, but DE is in area of need on the D-line.

Talavou has seen more playing time than both Divens and McKinney, and has been the better player so far. Divens IMO has the most upside though. If not for a season ending injury last year we could have seen a little bit of that during the season and hope to see it this year.

I think McKinney showed alot of potential in the Titans playoff game in 2008. He was dominating the line of scrimmage.

Both Gregg and Pryce are in the twilight of their careers.

I think we are fine at Defensive End and Tackle. I expect Trevor Price to play more of a pass rushing defensive tackle. Terrel Suggs and Paul Kruger should get the nod at defensive end when we are in the 4-3 alignment. Jameel McClain, Antwaan Barnes, Jarrett Johnson, Jameel McClain, and Edgar Jones are good pass rushers aswell, I assume maybe we need to do some blitzing to help the pass rush and make personnel adjustments in the secondary.

I wouldnt necessarily be opposed to moving Ngata to DT...

You mean NT? I've heard some people say they don't think the team wants to waste his athleticism by playing him at NT.

Nice lineup..... for a Rex Ryan defense. Ryan would surely have made better use of Ravens' LB's with exotic blitzing schemes to get more pressure opposing QB's.. However, in DC Gregg Mattison's more conservative base 4-3 alignment, an upgrade at DE is absolutely necessary. At this point, Trevor Pryce, at 34 years old is not the Trevor Pryce of 2 years ago and Paul Kruger is, in no way, shape or form, ready to be a starter and the kind of DE needed to make this team's defense better against the elite teams in this league. I'm glad to hear you mention " Mr. Versatile " Edgar Jones. Jones, who was called the next Adalious Thomas by Ozzie when drafted, is probably the most talented and athletic of our LB's and needs to be back on the defensive side of the ball where he could be a big contributor.

I'm totally not convinced that they're the answers to our pass rushing problems. I still say we need Greg Ellis to come in here and be a starter. Along with that, we need to draft a DL in the first round, no question about it.

Just to let you know Odrick will probably play 3-4 DE in the NFL so he would be a good option for us.
