So What Happens With Flacco?

...I think he'll be fine; heck, I'll go out on a limb and say he'll be a top 5 passer.

@ iwest70raven:

"Joe, despite the hip injury, pushed us to the brink!"

The wife pointed that out to me as we were watching them beat Cleveland 16-0. "He's walking funny", she said. I think he will heal over the off season, take advantage of the
weapons at his disposal and fly like...well a Raven.

I'm hoping the guys in my Fantasy Football league pass him up this year...'cause I'm sure gonna grab him!

I think Flacco will definitely have a better year especially with the O-line having an added year of experience. Oher and Gaither are still really young, so they ought to have benefited greatly from their starts last year (last few years for Gaither).

I would honestly like to see some more depth at the tackle position because Cousins' was pretty bad. His technique was terrible and I think he' a better fit at guard anyways.

Flacco has already established himself as the future. He's got all the tools and has already proven he's better than most QB's in the league in only two years.

If he doesn't capitalize on all the offensive weaponry we got him, I will be immensely disappointed, and disillusioned with him. I believe he will triumph with our new offense, but he's shown some twitchy Boller-tendencies as of late which are making me second-guess him.

EDIT: Lawl, I guess if you don't blindly worship Flacco(even though I did say I believe he will succeed) you get negged somethin' fierce.

Looking forward to a great year!! Joe has some great target to throw to so
I hope cam will mix up the play calling and that joe can improve on
reading other defences better this year. The one thing i don't want to
see is constanly checking it down to rice, this is the year when i don't
want to hear no one was open. Joe has to read better, get rid of the ball faster
and let the wr go for it. Joe has alot to live up to because you know
everyone here is wanting a superbowl win.

I was a firm believer that if Flacco got more weapons, he would be deadly in the NFL. Guess what? He got more weapons, time for his first Pro Bowl. Don't worry about him, he will be fine.

I still feel that Joe has had some very hard expectations to accomplish since his rookie season. This city and fanbase were starved for a franchise QB for so long and once we got Joe and he performed so well in his rookie season we tend to look at anything less as a major no-no or something. I'm not trying to make excuses or anything for Joe, but we all need to understand that he is still only in his third season and because he has accomplished so much this early in his career shouldn't mean that he isn't our guy if he does have some set-backs. Joe hasn't shown any reason to believe that he will decline in any way and I don't think that he will, especially with the growth of the offense. This is definitely a big year for Joe and I can't wait to see him flourish, but let's not be too harsh on the young guy if he doesn't meet all of these high expectations.

Okay, did Flacco regress in stats from his rookie season? No.

Didn't Flacco help us to the playoffs for the second straight season? Yes.

Didn't Flacco brave out his performances while he was really injured at season's end? Yes.

Guys, Flacco is a SECOND YEAR QB! Of course his game is still maturing and being refined, but look at what he has done over his first two seasons and with not much in the way of receiving talent.

I think some of yall need to revisit some Kyle Boller tapes.

All of the issues with Flacco are what you see from a young QB. He will attack the middle of the field more. He will make quicker decisions.

Honestly, there are some questions with this team, but Flacco is not one of them for me.

amen, thank you!

Just wondering what if Flacco doesn't make an improvement with our offense this season? Would it effect his future in Baltimore? I know this isn't a popular thing to say but I'm sure the expectations for a great season have gotten higher for him.

The answer to your question is: Nothing
Flacco enjoys his vacation, gets healthy and ready for minicamp, so he can start his record breaking season...

I think with the improved WR situation, Joe will use that as motivation to get much better this off-season. I think this will be his most impressive year yet.

Interesting thread. I would say next season can't hurt him. If he gets his 4,000+ yards and 25+ TD which I'm sure we're all expecting (and I'm sure he is too), then our thoughts are just confirmed that he's the future of our franchise. However, if he has an average - or bad - season (in the 3,000 yard range, but a shoddy TD-INT ratio), then I don't see a scenario when his job is "on the line" in 2011, so to speak. As far as my expectations, they aren't extremely high, considering what he's been able to accomplish in the first two seasons. I expect 4,000 yards, and 25 touchdown passes. Those stats put him in the upper echelion of quarterbacks, and maybe they are lofty expectations, but with the way he's performed and with the improvement he's shown, I don't think it's that much.

I think he'll have a Pro Bowl-worthy year, but with Brady, Manning, Rivers in the AFC, I have a tough time seeing him getting one next year unless he breaks some records.

I thought players in the Superbowl can't play in the pro bowl.

Compare him to Boller and that's what you'll get.

LOL!

The thing is, Boller was and still is making rookie mistakes despite being in the league for over 5 seasons. I could understand hm staring down targets and throwing into multiple coverage early in his career but he does it even now.

I just don't see Flacco becoming that type of QB.

Yes, and another key sign that Flacco is not Boller is his poise under pressure. Yes, he needs to work on his pocket mobility and vision (although I still contend that developing good vision is related to having receivers that the QB can rely on). However, he isn't afraid of pressure. He doesn't panic under pressure, he doesn't back pedal and throw the ball up wildly, and he knows when to just take the sack. I think people were expecting and asking a little too much from him this year, considering the receivers, mediocre pass blocking and the fact that he got injured (not to mention it was his second season).

Agreed. Even the best QBs are guilty of throwing falling back or maybe lettingbthe pressure get to them but the great ones do it consistently. I've lost count of the times Flacco has stepped into a throw as a defender ran free at him and with his demeanor, I doubt he'll ever get rattled.
