Ravens Agree to 2-Year Deal With WR Derrick Mason

126 posts in this topic

This is great!!! Welcome back Mason!! With Boldon on the other side, you should have a little more freedom. This is just like Christmas. Boldin...Mason...if we get a corner and a pass rusher, I think I'm going to pass out.

well his apologists do, now they don't have much room for it

I don't think any of us here are apologists, realists maybe. You have to remember that this is a second year quarterback that we are talking about. The dude has already taken us to the playoffs twice. Who is the last Raven's QB to do that? 21td's 12int's over 3500 yards over 60% completions..not bad for a second year QB.

Would you rather have Boller back there tripping over his own shadow?

sounds like you are just another person who goes out of his/her own way to be cynical.

Exactly, that's why I say that Flacco doesn't need excuses or apologists. People who respond to unjustified and unfair criticisms are defending reason, not Flacco.

With Boldin now a Raven, and now Mason back for two years, we have a great chance at a Super Bowl run both years. Now i know that after Mason retires there will be big shoes to fill at the #2 WR position, but i have to believe Ozzie will get a WR either this or next year to fill that hole. I'm hoping for Gresham myself.

Some people will just never be happy, no matter what he does.

Perfectly stated. I hate when people talk about how Flacco is overrated. And last year his best receiver was 36 years old. Flacco is one year older and better, with more weapons, with a more experienced o line. And our running game is going to be top 5 in the league again barring injuries. And our defense should be top 5 again and maybe even better than last year considering we don't have to get adjusted to Greg Mattison. He has all the opportunities to succeed. Our offense should be a lot more consistent than this year

Anyway, back on topic. I am completely pumped that we re-signed Mason. The guy deserved to get paid after carrying the Ravens passing game for the past few years.

The Ravens now have hands down the best receiving corps in the AFC North.

WR Derrick Mason's new deal in Baltimore: 2 years, $8 million, including $3.5 million in the first year.

I've been lurking around these forums for a while, but never a post...

I can't contain my excitement anymore! Welcome back D. Mase! Christmas has come very early for us fans. For years I have watched a team centered around a beastly defense and finally we have an outstanding offense as well.

Teams better recognize that they can't be stacking the line anymore, they're gonna have to drop back in coverage with this receving corp. Ray Rice is gonna have a field day, he's probably drooling as we speak.

Thank you Ozzie and FO!

NOT hands down, but certainly formidable.

Ochocinco, Bryant, and Caldwell are certainly forces to be reckoned with.

Holmes, Ward, and Mike Wallace have the edge, however. I hate to say it, but it's fact.

I think Boldin is the best wide receiver out of any of the receivers in the afc north. But I would have to agree that the steelers have the best overall receivers but it's not by much.

hands down? on paper maybe, but its closer than you think. the Steelers group is pretty deep and has proven as a group to be very productive. we still haven't seen what our group can do.

the Boldin deal wouldn't have been a giant upgrade without Mason coming back.
[/quote]

100% totally true. With out mase Bolden would have just been double teamed. Now not only does Flacco have more tools at his disposal, we now have some variety and depth.

I am VERY excited about this. Mase is a beast no doubt. He is super tough and plays just as hard hurt. Worth every penny no question.

I was worried about Ray Rice getting smothered this upcoming season. With Mason being signed, that little man is gonna run FREE!!!

So our recievers are now Mason, Boldin, Clayton, Washington, Williams, Smith, and Tyree. Seems like a pretty deep group. It makes a huge difference that Clayton is now our 3rd reciever. That gives us pretty solid depth since he has the ability to put up 600-700 yards. Granted he is less likely to get as many thrown his way, but it should help his effectiveness since he'll now be lined up against the nickel and not the #2 or #1 reciever.

Welcome back Mason!!

Check that. Clayton is now our #4 Receiver since we signed Dante Stallworth who will be the #3

Didn't Tyree just a sign a one-year deal.

And it's looking less and less likely Kelley returns. A few teams are willing to sign him and give him a bigger role.

No, you are mistaken. The Ravens current WR group will prove to be head and shoulders above the rest of the AFC North.

He deserves a bigger role, at least bigger than the one he got here.
