I agree. It sounds good, but those games are always tough and do we really want to start the season that way and possibly with a loss? I'd rather get a few games under our belt, especially with a new receiving corp. Give Flacco some time to hit his stride.
yeah but could you imagine how awesome it would be to startthe season with already one win over the steelers? That would really give us a positive start

Why are guys scared of playing the Steelers? We have to play them twice either way. Doesn't really matter if its week 1 or week 17.

I live in PA, and I'm tired of everyone saying we're scared of the Steelers because we denied to play in the season opener.

Maybe this will finally shut them up, although I doubt it. lol

I do not like this idea. I don't wanna get one of the Steelers games over with so early in the year. ESPECIALLY not the one in Baltimore. I wanna save them for later, so I'm praying this doesn't happen.

To some extent same here.

No prime time game against the Steelers for me, thanks. We don't seem to like to show up in prime time as of late, especially against the Steelers. Dennis Dixon almost beat us at Home last season as you recall...
Honestly, who cares what Dixon did? It'll be an new season.

If this happens, it would a great opportunity to not only play a rival but jump out to an early divisional lead.

Though It would be kind of cool if they did a double header deal on a Sunday when the Orioles play at 1PM, and the Ravens are at home on a Sunday Night, the Orioles and Ravens can come up with different packages like a purchasing 2 tickets for both games, 4 tickets for both games, etc. Yeah it would certainly cause some chaos downtown and at the light rail but the city of Baltimore would benefit money wise from both events and it would be something to think about in the near future.
I dont think they have any problem selling ravens tickets. I can barely get one now, without a psl, and no way in hell you can walk up and buy one face value at the window. Meanwhile O's tickets are $9 and they cant sell out.

Yep, and as I recall the Ravens WON the game.

I'll take Dixon and the steelers playing well but ultimately losing to the Ravens anytime we can get it.

Yeah he did almost beat us, but just remember Dennis Dixon ran for a like 40yd td. Ben could never do that.

There is a way that The Ravens-Steelers can face off on opening weekend in Baltimore at the same time the Orioles play. I was looking at the O's schedule and since the Ravens are on the road when the O's play and vice versa, the first 4 weeks for the Ravens will be Home/Away/Home/Away (Sept 12- Ravens vs Steelers??? SNF?; Orioles: @ Detroit, Sept 19th- Ravens: @ ???; Orioles: vs Yankees; Sept 26th- Ravens vs ?? Orioles: @ Toronto; October 3rd: Ravens @ ???; Orioles vs Tigers) if they do give the Ravens a Opening Kick off game. After looking at the O's schedule here's what I came up with:

ESPN may not be able to get it because of the schedule conflicts between the Ravens-Orioles so just maybe if this is true, the Ravens can play the Steelers in the Sunday Night Football Opener Sept 12th in Baltimore, The Orioles will probably be coming in from Detroit as they finish a series with the Tigers on the 12th, when kickoff begins at M & T Bank. The O's then get ready for a home stretch against the Blue Jays which starts that Monday the 13th. So essentially the League can place the Ravens-Steelers on Opening weekend in Baltimore but only on Sunday Night. If ESPN wants, they can try for the second Ravens-Steelers game for a Monday Night game in Pittsburgh for later in the season, though they will have to worry about CBS as they will try to get it. Just wanted to clarify things on how the Ravens-Steelers can play in Baltimore along with the O's having a home game.

Edit: Now of course I don't know if the schedule conflict applies if the O's and Ravens play on different days but this is the likely and only way the Ravens can get an opening HOME Kickoff Game.

I don't want this to happen for two reasons.

1. One offensive touchdown against the Cleveland Browns, 3 points against the Colts, and a horrific showing against the Packers really took away my enthusiasm for primetime games.

2. The Steelers play the Saints in NO. I'd prefer for Pittsburgh to play them in the first game of the season since defending SB champs rarely lose their first games.

Here we go with this Ravens suck in Prime time excuses for not having a Prime time game. We normally get 2 Prime time games anyhow, and why not start off with a win over a division rival. Where did you hear the Saints play the Steelers??? No opening day weekend games have been confirmed. We won't know nothing until the league announces it, and yes the Steelers are a possibility but I can tell you that the league will probably have it be the Vikings vs Saints in the Thursday Night Home Opener, for two reasons, Rematch of the NFC Championship game and two the league is probably thinking Favre will be persuaded back to the Vikings this off-season.

Well instead of our primetime record, we could always dwell on our record against Pittsburgh in the last couple of years... I'm all for starting the year with a win over the Steelers, but I'm not at all confident that the Ravens can get it done. That's not to say that they can't possibly win, but our best shot at opening the season with a win over a divisional team is vs. Cleveland.

Read my post again. I said that "I'd prefer" for the Steelers to play the Saints.

I understand the Ravens haven't done very well at all against the Steelers in recent years but the gap between the two teams is rapidly closing. One could even argue the Ravens are the better team now.

Our playoff games will be primetime games, so you can't hide forever. I really hope this is true. If we're really that terrible in primetime, we wont be winning a Superbowl any time soon, so might as well get exposed to the national spotlight, and get used to it.

so then why can't both be going on at the same time? Have the saints play the western most team like the bikes and have the ravens play the steelers which could be deemed east coast and then just have both start at 7pm est..
NFL broadcasting agreements with the networks dictate that all primetime games are to be played uncontested with other NFL contests. That means, any primetime game that is aired must be the only game played during that specific time slot. This is meant to emphasize the importance of the national stage as well as allow networks to benefit from the advertising revenue boost gained from being the only game on at that particular time.

The Saints cannot play a West Coast team and have it start late because the Super Bowl Champions since the beginning of the Kickoff Weekend tradition have always started the season hosting a nationally-televised game to cap off their coronation and begin their title defense. The game will be in New Orleans, and there's only an hour's difference in time zone between Louisiana and the East Coast.

Either way, what I'm getting at is that there's no way the kickoff traditions will be changed because of the network contracts and how much additional revenue that's been gained since the start of these television rules.

Actually, I'd prefer to play the Steelers later than week 1 or 2 because just getting these big games overwith early in the year kinda sucks. I wanna save the excitment of playing a hated team for later in the year, it's got nothing to do with being scared of them. That's 1, and 2, it's not like the Steelers totally own us. They've only swept us once in the last eight years and more than likely won't don't do it next year either.

the Jets will play in the first nationally televised Monday Night Football game of the season on September 13. The NFL is in the final stages of completing the 2010 schedule. The opponents for the Giants and Jets Kickoff Weekend home openers will be announced soon.

Since we have been talking about the possibility of a Ravens-Steelers match up in week 1, I thought I post this here and get your thoughts. It was announced today in order to solve the conflict of the Jets/Giants of wanting to open the new stadium first, the NFL has put the Giants at home on Sunday, and The Jets will be playing at home in the first MNF game of the 2010 season.

Looking at our schedule, now we can have a MNF game in week 1, only if the league schedules Ravens @ Jets as the East Coast Game of the MNF double header. I personally wouldn't mind if we play the Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 1 or head to the Meadowlands to play Rex on Monday Night Football. What would your thoughts be of a possible Ravens/Jets MNF Opener on Sept 13th?

Playing the MNF game away against the Jets to start the new season would be intense! The fact that they are coming into the season with a bad taste in their mouth from losing the AFC Championship game is enough. But this will be their first game in their new stadium and an season MNF opener. I do not think that we will be playing them though. They will probably face another team in the AFC East.

Yeah unfortunately I think that's what will happen, probably the Patriots so the league can get Tom Brady in the spot light immediately, though it could be very possible that since the league takes schedule requests that maybe Rex will request to play us in the Monday Night Opener. Either way I think the Ravens/Jets will play in Prime Time during the season whether its week 1 or Week 15.

We should know soon enough. I'm assuming those games will start leaking out on Sunday or Monday!
Yep, next week we will know the prime time opening weekend games( Who the Saints play, probably the Vikings; the Sunday Night Opener and the 2 Monday Night Games) and the Thanksgiving Games. Ever since I mentioned about facing the Jets on Monday Night Football, I love the idea of it more and more each day. I'm just hoping Rex requested it or got a mutual agreement with John and they agreed to play each other and told the league to book it, all I know is I want the Jets on Monday Night, or at least give the Ravens the Steelers in the Sunday Night Opener.

Kickoff can't get here soon enough. The Draft can't either. I'm so pumped for this season.

:18_1_301: <--------------- This is Anquan Boldin after stiff arming Revis and Cromartie or Polamalu.

Not sure if this was covered yet(a little off-topic), but when do complete schedules normally get released? I hear you guys talking about the NFL revealing the opening games soon, but I just can't wait for our schedule to be released so we know what to look forward to.

Completely agree. I would love this match-up for the first game. I like the Ravens having their LAST regular season game at home a whole lot more than having their FIRST game at home. Those early games can be way too hot/sunny.

Full schedule release is about a week before the draft. April 15th is usually a good date to assume. It's right around there.

Ok, not too far away. I knew it had to be kind of early because I always remember printing the schedule and hanging it in the office, and writing all of the off-season moves and draft picks on it. Thanks for the heads up!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/21/key-2010-games-will-be-announced-on-monday/

It's official. We will know the Key Games tomorrow!!!! The games we will know tomorrow are the Opening weekend games(Thursday Night Opener, Sunday Night Football Opener; the Monday Night Football Double Header, and the Thanksgiving games) Either we'll be home in the first week like on a Sunday afternoon, have a Sunday Night opener, or be on the road against the Jets in Week 1 or on Thanksgiving.

I'm going to guess on the games that might be announced:

Thursday Sept 9th: Saints vs Vikings: Re-Match of the NFC Championship Game, and the only other opponent that they face at home that's a good team, is the Steelers and Rooney came out and said they are not the road team playing the Saints.

Sunday Night Football: Some Divisional Game(knowing how most of last year it will be an NFC East Clash, probably Dallas vs Philly)

Monday Night Football Game 1: Jets vs Ravens, Jets vs Mia/NE, possibly the Bengals as it would be a rematch from the playoffs

Monday Night Football Game 2: Raiders vs Chargers/Broncos/Chiefs OR Arizona vs 49ers(for the division most likely)/Seahawks vs Arizona(Leinart vs Carrol)

Thanksgiving Games:
Lions vs Patriots(This is a Given)

Cowboys vs Jaguars/Titans/Saints/Bears

Jets vs Ravens if they don't play Week 1 on MNF!

Any thoughts on what you guys think will be announced tomorrow?
Well, I'm still holding out hope that the Lions and Cowboys are NOT guaranteed Thanksgiving Day Games. I swear Goodell said he was thinking about rotating it so every team had the chance to play on the holiday and all the fans had a chance to see their team then.

But what do I expect?

Saints vs. Vikings... even though I actually think Favre IS done playing. He doesn't feel like going through an entire season and being let down at the end again. It's a grueling process to think it's finally your year, make it that far, and then lose because of your mistakes and not the other team being truly better than you. Ravens fans who remember 2006 know this feeling very well.

Sunday Night... I wouldn't be surprised to see the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams play each other, and honor Kurt Warner in some way since he played for both franchises. But this might fit better as the 2nd game of the Monday Night double-header, so I guess this will be a big market team from the NFC East.

Monday Night double-header:

We know the Jets are hosting the first game. Their home schedule is so nasty(in a good way) that almost ANY of their opponents could be a great prime-time match. The Patriots, Dolphins, Bengals, Ravens, Vikings, Packers, and Bills. I hate division games right off the bat, so I'm hoping it's not a division opponent. That leaves the Ravens, Bengals, Vikings, and Packers. There was big storylines with OchoCinco vs. Revis, but there was also great storylines between the Jets and Ravens. I say it's between those two teams. Personally, I am hoping the Ravens get the Thanksgiving match-up against the Jets. I want the opening day game to be at 1:00 because it means I don't have to wait as long for football to start! haha

The 2nd game... will be a west coast team. If the Cardinals/Rams doesn't happen on Sunday Night, it could be this game. Rams @ Cardinals.

Man, nothing would make me more happier then seeing the Ravens play the Steelers in Prime Time for a kickoff game. That would be special, especially with a win to start us out strong. We should be excited for this, not hesitant because we usually don't do well in Prime Time. New year, new players, new attitude. I have a special feeling about next season.
