I think you meant Monday Night Opener, The Super Bowl Champs open up on Thursday Night. If that is true about opening up on Monday Night, we would be part of the Monday Night Double Header ESPN does every year. That would be AWESOME!!! If that is true, we will know that we have 1 Prime Time game, does anyone else know when they will announce the Kickoff Schedule, the Thursday Night Opener, which looks like it could be a NFC Championship Rematch between the Saints and Vikings(especially if they get Favre Back) and they normally say who is playing on Thanksgiving, the Sunday Night Opener and the 2 Monday Night Openers on ESPN.

I'm still saying Thursday night...
They wouldn't do a Thursday night doubleheader; the NFL's scheduling model for the past few years has been to have the defending Super Bowl Champions kick off the NFL season on a Thursday night at home, while using a doubleheader on Monday night to close the weekend by placing an East Coast game as the early game and a West Coast game as the late game due to the timezone differences.

Well this would go along the lines of what I was asking earlier...

I made a thread about something I swore I heard on Mike and Mike, how the Ravens would open up the season against the Bengals on Monday Night, but it would be in Cincy.

A HOME opener on MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL against the STEELERS? That is going to bring one hell of a tailgate party!

There is a first time for everything. I guess we wont know until they announce it officially but they can do what ever they want and if they want a double header on kick off night then the nfl will get a doubleheader on kickoff night. They could easily have a ohio faceoff between the browns and bengals on monday night too.

Do we know when this will officially be announced? After last years Ravens/Steelers game (my first game at M&T) I made a promise to myself to see that match-up once a year.

Timezone-wise, though, it wouldn't work out.

They can't have a game in New Orleans for the Super Bowl champs and then have a game in Baltimore the same night; logistically, it wouldn't work because: 1) in order to have them back-to-back, one of them would have to have a late kickoff around 10pm, and people attending the game have to go to work the next morning; and 2) they couldn't have a kickoff earlier than 7:00pm if they want to maximize their viewership on a weekday, given that primetime is around 8:00pm.

I understand that Monday night games by themselves end around 11:30pm anyway, but since games usually take 3 hours to finish on average, for an East Coast game to start at 10pm would mean it'd finish at around 1:00am and people wouldn't get home until 2:00am or 3:00am. That's why the late game for the doubleheader is always a West Coast game, since that 10pm kickoff is actually 7pm for people attending that game. Live NFL games always air "early" for the West Coast anyway since there's no tape delay.

I do not like this idea. I don't wanna get one of the Steelers games over with so early in the year. ESPECIALLY not the one in Baltimore. I wanna save them for later, so I'm praying this doesn't happen.

so then why can't both be going on at the same time? Have the saints play the western most team like the bikes and have the ravens play the steelers which could be deemed east coast and then just have both start at 7pm est..

If this game goes through, then we probably wouldn't see the Steelers for another 14 weeks, as the NFL would likely want a late-season contest between the two teams, assuming that the division will be on the line.

Is this even possible? After looking up the Orioles schedule... they have a home game that Monday night.

Anyone clear on what the rules are for Ravens and Orioles having home games? I thought the reason Ravens couldn't open at home opening weekend a lot of previous years was because the Orioles were home and there were some sort of pre-existing regulations?

Does this not apply for Monday Nights? Is it only for weekends? Anyone?

Normally in the late end of baseball and when football starts, to not cause any conflicts down town traffic wise, the Ravens are away when the Orioles play, and home when the O's are on the road. I guess when ESPN requested the game, they didn't realize the O's are at home on the same night or they don't know about the whole Ravens-Orioles set up, I assume the Orioles, Ravens and NFL all sat down and worked things out that a Ravens home game can't be scheduled at the same time as a Orioles home game.

Though It would be kind of cool if they did a double header deal on a Sunday when the Orioles play at 1PM, and the Ravens are at home on a Sunday Night, the Orioles and Ravens can come up with different packages like a purchasing 2 tickets for both games, 4 tickets for both games, etc. Yeah it would certainly cause some chaos downtown and at the light rail but the city of Baltimore would benefit money wise from both events and it would be something to think about in the near future.

My understanding of the stadium contracts is that the Orioles have "dibs" on scheduling dates and times because their schedule comes out before the NFL's. The Orioles COULD move their Monday night game to a Tuesday double-header if they want to, though.

No prime time game against the Steelers for me, thanks. We don't seem to like to show up in prime time as of late, especially against the Steelers. Dennis Dixon almost beat us at Home last season as you recall...

I agree. It sounds good, but those games are always tough and do we really want to start the season that way and possibly with a loss? I'd rather get a few games under our belt, especially with a new receiving corp. Give Flacco some time to hit his stride.
