sad to say but Mason's days in Baltimore may be numbered.

I wonder if yelling at Cam has anything to do with this? Our coaching staff seems to have a low tolerance for players talking back. I don't agree with throwing a lot of money Mason's way, but he has shown he is still productive and we need more than one proven receiver. But, whether Mason is in the dog house for yelling at poor Cam or that we we have our top receiver in Boldin I'm afraid the FO may be thinking Mason is expendable. If so, very shallow thinking. Or, they could be using a Mason singing by another team as a way of getting aceess to more FA's. Equally stupid thinking in my opinion sicne we are better off keeping last year's offense intact (but improved).

Where are you getting that from? Players and coaches get into heated discussions on every team in the NFL. I HIGHLY doubt whatever Mason said to Cam affects how the team views him. The team may not consider him a priority right now but like Mike Preston said on the radio earlier today, it's posturing. They're handling the situation just like they did with Ray last off-season. Ultimately, I think Mason will be back in purple.

I hope no one was listening to the sports radio this morning. They were talking about Gaither possibly going to the 49'ers and us trading the 13th selection to the Broncos for Marshall and not going the Mason route.

We don't need another Marshall thread!!! :bye:
Did they have a formula on how we are supposed to pay Boldin AND Marshall???

Getting worried now that Ozzie and Co. are treating the Mason situation as a "leaving the door open" type of deal. It used to be such a huge priority. Scoring Boldin was a big win for us, but it doesn't mean nearly as much if we don't get Mason back. Sigh, hope we don't screw this up, our offense could progress so far if we had Boldin, Mason, and Stallworth as our line-up.

Ozzie and Co. are simply handling Mason the same way they did Ray last year.

The ball is in his court but he wants to test the waters. However, he should end up back here.

A. Harbs does have low tolerance for any form of defiance and I am sure that extends to his "offensive genious". That's my opinion.

B. I hope Mason signs somewhere else so Oz's posturing bites him in the butt. Where's the loyalty? Mason has been a consistent offensive weapon and we reward him by trading for Boldin and brushing him off. I would understand it if Mason had an off year last year. We need some verteran offensive leadership and consistency for Flacco.

Ray got what his ego deserved. He kept dropping hints of signing a big contract with other teams and he had to eat humble pie in the end. Mason has not been playing that game from what I've seen. He simply asked for two years. Maybe a large paycheck, but he earned it every bit as much as Suggs.

Yeah but Ray has been the Ravens since day one, Derrick's a more recent addition so it's less certain he'll be back.

I haven't really been on the boards lately (I get my news more from twitter now) but I wanted to put in my two cents on this subject.

Mason played through injury for two seasons for us. He has more than earned a 2 year deal; even if he decides to only play 1 more, he deserves the option of 2. I'd say hes easily in the top toughest players on the roster. The play from last year that comes to mind is in the game against Detroit when he got hit by the two defenders and they knocked eachother down, and he ran off to the endzone. The game in 2008 against Dallas when his shoulder was being re-taped between plays...I could go on. As happy as I am that we got Boldin, he is injury prone. I know he's tough and all that but what happens if he gets hurt week 3 or 4? What then?

Flacco clearly wants Mason here and I can't really think of any fan who could argue that Mason shouldn't be here. Boldin, Mason, & Stallworth sounds like a legit 1,2,3 to me.

I find myself confused, befuddled and otherwise dismayed... I actually agree with the Sun's Mike Preston when it comes to the improvement of the WR position. He thinks we need to continue to improve the WR position and, this is hard to say, I agree with him.

I know we have people to retain and other positions to upgrade, but we're not done with WR if that position is to be complete.

If we don't get him back are we drafting a WR in the first round or will Clayton be our 2/3rd option?
You really think the Ravens would dump all this money/signings in to a stellar WR core... then throw Clayton back out there as a second?

Just sayin'.

True. But one argue Ray and Ed aside, Mason has been the most important player on this team since he arrived.

I think he'll be back.

Mason just needs to sign already...
With every WR signing, our contract offer goes down. If Mason doesn't sign before the draft he won't be a Raven in 2010. I think the odds are very slim that Mason returns. He got greedy and it cost him.

I don't think he's got greedy at all. He simply wants a financial security beyond the 2010 which you can understand considering he still has a desire to play and keeps himself in good shape.

I hate when these athletes talk about wanting "security." Does D-Mase not already have millions upon millions in the bank/invested somewhere? Give me a break. We offered him a 2-year deal. Take it or leave it.

Exactly. And... at the end of the day.... Superbowl Ring > Any Paycheck.

If it wasn't about money he'd already he signed and the deal would be done. He wants #1 money when he's a #2 receiver.

I'm not defending his need for "security".

What he's waiting for is beyond me. I just hope he signs and if he doesn't, the Ravens replace him with a quality WR either in FA or through the draft.

Agreed. He's more or less handcuffing us at this point because it's obvious that Ozzie is waiting for Mason to come to a decision either way before moving forward.

Again with this label. What exactly is the difference between a #1 and #2 WR? People have taken to using the terms so loosely when there's isn't really a clear distinction.

Look at Greg Jennings and Donald Driver in GB. Whose the #1 and whose the #2? Wes Welker is another example. He's primarily a slot WR but is usually Brady's first read. What do we classify him?

Fact is, Mason has been the team's best target in the passing game since he joined the team. I'm not sure what exactly he wants but the team should team should be willing to pay considering all he's done.

Well, Mason is clearly the #2 now, should he return, but that doesn't mean his production will be any less, in fact it will probably go up since teams will think twice about double-teaming him now that Q is in the fold. This deal needs to get done yesterday; dragging this out makes no sense.

I agree, however, you can only give so much. Not knowing the full details of what we offered compared to what he wants makes it hard to judge either side of the siuation, but at the end of the day you know Mason wants a ring and we give him a good chance at that before he calls it quits. The fact that he hasn't signed with any other team already proves that he still wants to be in Baltimore and I think that the only reason he hasn't signed back with us is because he wants to take his time deciding whether he will hang it up or give it another go. Again, this is just my opinion but when it's all said and done Mason will be catching balls from Joe come August.

I really hope we find out where Mason is going sooner than later.

That way we can get a #2 through FA, and focus on defense in the draft.

Adam Schefter posted this on his twitter, I personally hope something happens:
Adam_Schefter

Even after signing Donte Stallworth and trading for Anquan Boldin, the Ravens still are attempting to re-sign free-agent WR Derrick Mason.
