Merged: Big Ben Gets 6-Game Suspension

544 posts in this topic

^ I heard about that one. It's a bit strange.

In other news, the Steelers apparantly don't want Ben to take part in their offseason program.
Team spokesman Dave Lockett says the two-time Super Bowl quarterback is not expected to join his teammates this week for voluntary offseason workouts that begin Monday.

After discussing whether Roethlisberger's presence would create too much of a distraction, the decision was made for him not to attend the team's offseason program, according to a source.
That's not what the article said. "Ben discussed it with Lockett and "IT" was decided......"
Of course you want to assume that the team made the decision, but that is HIGHLY unlikely.

I just hope Goodell stays consistent in handing out discipline and doesn't gloss this over because he's a star QB. You don't need to get convicted in order to violate the personal conduct policy, and I think he's done just that.

Why is that highly unlikely? Personally, I don't think he came to that decison all on his own, but it is possible.

A conviction probably isn't the deciding factor. Like Vick, he could be suspended if he is formally charged.

I think it's kind of strange that Goodell hasn't yet met with Ben.

Goodell has been pretty inconsistent. I heard on the radio this morning that Burress wasn't suspended until after he was convicted and Stallworth wasn't suspended until after he was sentenced.

Because it's out of the ordinary for one and I'm calling a spade a spade here: You ALWAYS go for the negative aspect when it comes to the Steelers, and therefore have no credibility when it comes to reporting on them as far as I'm concerned. Sorry.

Having your starting quarterback face a second sexual assault allegation is out of the ordinary too. Either way, whether the team told him not to come or he decided it all by himself the results are still the same.

If my wording offends you, you can always look at NFL.com's take.
The team apparently believes it would be a distraction for Roethlisberger to be working out at this time.
O.o I don't recall you having these problems with my "reporting" last year when I had all of that information about Ben's first accuser, nor do I recall complaints about negativity a few posts ago when I talked about Ben exercising his rights; but there's no need to apologize. I don't care if you don't want to read my links (although you seem to be doing just that).

I don't mean to sound like I'm going straight for the negative here... but I could see Pitt saying that.. especially just for the voluntarily workouts, because they are a very hush-hush organization.... not to mention the rooney's being upset with the whole situation (who can blame them)

Not to mention it's possible the players around him could be more focused on him and his situation then actually working out (but that is a stretch)

It's just another perspective on a rather big situation that can effect the whole NFL

WNST is claiming that the Steelers have cut Ben, it's still "breaking" so I'm assuming it's a rumor right now

they looked like they were in utter shock

then I slipped the "April Fool's" in there..... and they slipped me a black eye (kidding of course)

Or maybe we could ask you. It's no secret that you moved to escape your abusive lover.

The Steelers are falling apart.

Really? I don't share that sentiment at all. Heck, we haven't even reached the draft yet and already I'm encouraged about our season.

Those same old tired players won the super bowl the year before last. Players have problems and it doesn't mean the season is over. Ray Lewis had legal issues and went on the be the Super Bowl MVP that same year. Plus I've been watching this game for over 25 years, I know when not to panic.

You also may have been watching Scoobie Doo for over 25 years, doesnt mean you could solve a mystery! I don't recall Randel El on the Steelers last Super Bowl win. Ray Lewis is the man, you don't have anyone like him on your team, sorry.

Steelers did better against us with Dixon, I for one hope Roethlisberger is back.

Huh? We beat them with Dixon and lost to them with Big Jen. WTH are you smoking?

yeah Troy is a great player and seems like a great guy, but that warden dude was talking about the guys in trouble and bringing up Ray like Roethlisberger or Holmes were going to rise up like he did. Dont see it happening.

Antwaan Randel El also has SB ring with the Steelers. Larry Foote has two. We obviously don't need anyone like Ray Ray on our team to win the big game. Ray one it once, in his prime ten years ago. Tell you what, YOU worry about the Ravens and let ME worry about the Steelers. k?
