Merged: Big Ben Gets 6-Game Suspension

I believe they are open to trading him. But some of these trade rumors just sound silly.
I've only heard one, but you raise an interesting question Pu; What's his worth right now?

I'd say a 1st this year and a later round next year (or visa versa). 2 days ago I agreed about a 1st this year and next. Who knows how I'll feel tomorrow or the next day (depending on how much more I learn about him).

What do you guys think?

Yeah, everything around Ben during an offseason (especially one when he chooses not to use his brain) is a circus. So I expected some outrageous and silly rumors regarding what sort of compensation would be offered for Roethlisberger. The only thing I'm certain of regarding any trade of Ben, we won't see him in the AFC North (and really the only team he'd go to would be the Browns... lol). Pittsburgh refused to even entertain any offers for Holmes in the North. I really don't see them doing it any different for Ben.

Oh I admit Dave, it's touchy and there are gray areas. But morally, what Ben did was worse. Who needs the bigger lesson: Ben or Santo?
Ben, however I'm not sure either will truly learn their lesson. I will be quite angry if Ben got a lesser punishment than Holmes.

Oh, I think both of them will learn. What's taken place so far and what will take place is pretty significant.

No sex in the Champagne Bathroom Ben. Either way, it's still hear/say and I fault the police department for not digging deeper ot doing a better job IF Ben actually did these things. We will NEVER know the real story.

Someone should start a poll on the "punishment". I'm guessing a 4 game suspension and enrollment in the NFL substance abuse program.

I think a 1st is justified along with a 3rd round 2011 pick. The 3rd round pick is conditional on if Big Ben plays 8 games in 2010.

That sounds like a fair trade. Two first round picks for a 29 y.o. Sex addict might be pushing the envelope a little too much.

I was thinking 2 games before the report today. But after hearing the details and yet another story that was swept under the rug. I'm going with 4.

It's not really their fault if it went down how it is generally thought to. Ben's bodyguard allegedly made sure there were no witnesses. So it's just a drunken 20 y/o's word against an NFL QB and his lawyers'. Almost too rehearsed an operation to be the only time that this has happened?

I could see this going down when Ben is like 45.

Please Ben sit down......

Not sure if it's totally relevant but the cop that took the original report resigned.

Also, did it refer to a 20 year old as a teen?
They are referring to a teenager (junior police ?) that reported that Rothlisberger made advances against another woman in her 20's. It was his friend's sister. So they keep referring to this "teen" said this.

Anyway, before we get OT (and consequently lose this thread): What is Ben's trade value as of today? Opinions?

I'd say it's only a first, just because of the PR backlash that would accompany him.

Kristi E. Swartz and Christian Boone of the Atlanta Journal Constitution report during their investigation of the incident of March 5th, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also came across an unsubstantiated allegation that a drunken Roethlisberger had made unwanted advances on another young woman who lives in the Milledgeville area.

During a party at Roethlisberger’s house, the quarterback allegedly pulled his pants down and told the woman she could “do whatever she wants," the GBI report states.

A week later, Roethlisberger invited her to a party where he allegedly forced his hand up the young woman’s skirt, according to the report.

She was able to escape and informed her father of the incident, the report states. The father apparently encouraged his daughter not to pursue a criminal complaint.

[s]I think it's probably still high. He hasn't been given a suspension, he's a quarterback, and still young. If the Rooney's had said something to suggest that they didn't want to trade him, his value might be higher. Now if he's suspended and rumors continue to leak about him being tradeable, his value will go down,imo.[/s]
Oh wait, you don't think I have credibility. Never mind. ;)

That she went back suggests that she either liked him despite/because of his advances or is incredibly unwise.

Now where is the link?

If this is true, that is truly a father of the year candidate. I'm sorry, if that were my daughter, I would encourage her TO pursue a criminal complaint. Hell, I wouldn't even let her wait. I'd take her to the police station myself if I had to. The fact that a father can her about such a thing being done to his own daughter and go "You know, you really shouldn't press charges" is disgusting to me. Question: Is the father a Steelers fan? Heh. Either way, it's disgusting.

I'd say a First round and perhaps a conditional pick for next year's draft. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see something along the lines of a first and a third in this year's draft (if done before the draft). There are some teams that are quite desperate for a quarterback, so I'm sure the Steelers could squeeze them for some additional picks.

I think I found what you're talking about.
[T]he woman "is 21 or 22 years old" and worked at the Great Waters golf course, which is near Roethlisberger's retreat on Lake Oconee. On one occasion, the woman, acting as a designated driver, drove Roethlisberger home from a party. After helping the inebriated athlete to his bedroom, Roethlisberger allegedly would not let her leave. The woman "was able to get to the front door of the house, but Roethlisberger slammed the door." He then allegedly pulled down his pants and told the woman "she could do whatever she wants."

A week after the incident (the date of which is not specified in GBI documents), Roethlisberger invited the woman to a party at his home. While there, she "ended up in Roethlisberger's bedroom," where the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback reportedly wanted to show her a new bed. After asking her to lie down, Roethlisberger "was allegedly forceful" with the woman and "put his hand up [her] skirt." After pushing Roethlisberger's hand away, the woman went to leave the home, which angered the football star. The woman then "went home and told her father, but her father chose not to pursue the issue."
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2010/0416101ben1.html#theLink

That was a paraphrase of the investigative report summary.

So he wouldn't let her leave and she thought it would be a good idea to go to his bedroom?

I have to disagree. Maybe he realised that she's going to look like a moron if it gets out that he wouldn't let her leave and yet she still went back for more. I think he was doing the right thing, looking out for his daughter before seeking punishment for a D-bag.

Why wouldn't people support him? There has been no charge?!! I am not saying he didn't do it I am just saying its silly to assume he did, just because he doesnt play for our team.
.....
And the Vick thing...please get over it that guy actually got punished for what he did. He did what he had to do legally so its time to show some compassion and forgive. And yes I have a dog and am a dog lover. These guys even though football players are still human and should be treated as such. He served his time seems like he realizes what he did was stupid and ridiculous its time to get over it.
I feel he should not be supported because regardless of what he is found guilty of, the guy is an ***.
We need to stop supporting these divas that feel they can act however they wish just because they may to some appear to be a star. Its like people that want TO on our team just so we can win. Same with C-Mac.
When will we start making these guys be held accountable for their actions? I would not expect people to like or respect me if I acted the way Big Ben does. That is why I would not let my child wear his jersey...he is a poor example of human being.
And yes, same goes for Vick. Blah, blah, blah about served his time. Michael Vick and his brother have been the same way ever since college. They were a virus at Va Tech too. Yes people can change...but I do not forgive and forget as easily as you, it appears.

There's more to that story, like why did she go to his house a second time.

Here's more on the Georgia allegation:

My link
Mr. Bright, the district attorney, said during his news conference that when the accuser first approached a police officer outside the nightclub immediately after the incident, "The police officer asked 'Did he rape you?' And her response was 'No.' Then he asked, 'Did you have sex?' And she said, 'Well, I'm not sure.'
To each his own. If it were another player who didn't have the checkered past that Ben has off the field, maybe. But Ben is not an upstanding citizen when it comes to situations like these. So I'd be much more inclined to believe her, and it seems there's a fair amount of people who feel the same. I'd rather try to get the man who did such a thing to my daughter the punishment he deserves then sit back and do nothing just because I don't want someone to think ill of her.
