Never said Ben was a saint. I have already agreed that he needs to humble himself. But for me, accusations are useless. I'm sure as heck not going to expect an unbiased view from folks who hate him.
I really, truly want to believe that this is a huge conspiracy against Ben. Sure, he has a long history of bad judgment, but I'm not one to hold the past against someone. We all grow and change, hopefully for the better, over time. From all indications, his heart is just as big as his ego can be at times.

But here's the rub that I'm fearing is coming to light....

When women are raped, they very often do not report it. The reasons for that are many, but the biggest reason, other than shame is fear.
Considering Ben's status in society, the fear factor is especially understandable.

But what often happens is that if one victim gets the courage to stand up for themselves, other victims follow. And sexual predation is not normally an isolated event; these guys will keep doing it until something happens to put a stop to it.

I'm not suggesting that this is what we are seeing now with Ben, but I am saying that this is starting to follow a common pattern.

He's innocent until proven otherwise (lets not forget that there are an awful lot of ladies out there who are not above trying to take advantage of a situation presented to them), but this isn't looking good..

Now the Lawyer is backing out of his claim of this other situation.... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/13/lawyer-backs-off-on-allegations-of-other-roethlisberger-incidents/

Now he backs off his claim and now where do we go, this thing has been so crazy you don't know what's right, what's wrong and what really happened. I find it funny how this guy says that he has something and investigated than all of a sudden goes back on his word? Just like I find it funny the girl didn't want to press charges on March 17th. Something is going on and until someone is not afraid of Ben's lawyers he may keep doing this if any of this is true.
Maybe the lawyer guy just wanted his 15 minutes and when he was asked for more detail he had to back off.

If anything, Ben is guilty of being a fool for consistently putting himself in these types of situations... lucky for Ben, there is no crime for stupidity or foolishness.
This is EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Kinda like me going into a Ford forum and telling everyone how great my Corvette is.

From USAToday: Steelers team president Art Rooney II will speak to reporters today at 2:30 p.m. ET to discuss the Ben Roethlisberger situation.

The Steelers said Rooney will "provide an update on the Ben Roethlisberger matter." It's unknown what he will say.

I don't think so... he's a concussion or two away from ending his career anyway.... if they got a first rounder or more for him.... then they should take it

That's a real good point. It's not like he's never had a head injury. Maybe the team doesn't think he's "long term" anyway.

Well the talk pretty much told everybody....nothing. If discipline actions are taken, apparently it will be announced the week after the draft.

Can't really expect those who cheer for him to have an unbiased view either. Whatever the case I do agree that he hasn't been proved guilty of anything yet. I still believe it should be innocent until proven guilty (yes even with Steelers players :)). Only thing I see him guilty of so far is terrible judgement. Also I am sure this won't be the only other allegation brought up but that is normally the case with celebrities. Just because more people come out of the woodwork doesn't make him guilty it could just be girls trying to get paid. Now if he is found guilty then thats a different story.

According to ESPN radio the Rams offered the Steelers their number 1 overall pick this year and their number 1 next year for Big Ben.

EDIT: Additional information about the "assault" : http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5094224

Apparently Ben went to the bathroom by himself, his guard DRAGGED the drunken girl to the bathroom then guarded the door as Ben had sex with her. Ben left the bathroom by himself and the guard wouldn't let the woman's friends enter the bathroom (he stayed at the door and wouldn't let anyone in after Ben was finished and had left the bathroom) until Ben was ready to leave.

WOW.

It shows the organization is just as shady as some of their players.

Roger sent a NFL wide memo out about player conduct- Big Ben is about to become the play conduct = suspension example.

It makes me shudder to defend anything Steelers, but maybe they're waiting to see he how Ben conducts himself in the meanwhile...sort of a "probation before judgement" sort of thing.

I have to agree with what flynismo said in here or in another thread.
Victims don't typically come out of the wood work until a later time.
Doesn't anyone watch Forensics Science? These guys get away with stuff for years until someone seriously gets hurt, or worse.
Then all these other stories come about from people that were just too scared to previously say anything.

I still shake my head at Big Ben supporters. But hey, I saw someone wearing a Vick jersey a month ago too. :34853_shakehead:

If any of what they claim is true then Ben is truely a scumbag. "If."

On a side note, I got a real chuckle out of this part of the article concerning the NFL's conduct policy:
"The Policy makes clear that NFL and club personnel must do more than simply avoid criminal behavior," the memo said. "We must conduct ourselves in a way that 'is responsible, that promotes the values upon which the league is based, and is lawful."
THEN QUIT PAYING 24 YEAR OLDS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!!!!

To be totally honest, if most of us were 28, single and had the sort of money Roethlisberger does then we'd probably find ourselves in comparable situations.

I don't think so, it is the whole athletes are God thing that is started when 10 yo's start playing football. I learned that this past fall when my son walked on to the football team--the grades started sliding,he was taken out of classes for coaching sessions, got to eat in a special lounge and I flabbergasted what they did for football players.
Ben is a star Superbowl winning QB so multiply the entitlement and throw millions of dollars at a guy with a face only his mother could call handsome and you have Ben and his "issue's". I don't know what his family situation was growing up or why he feels that its ok to treat women like crap--thats above my paygrade and this is not the place.

It's a catch-22. You want these guys to act like Baseball gods of olden days. But the problem is, times have changed.

Their is no way possible to stop 20 year old kids from acting out, especially when you are stuffing cash in every pocket they have.

Why wouldn't people support him? There has been no charge?!! I am not saying he didn't do it I am just saying its silly to assume he did, just because he doesnt play for our team. I don't like Big Ben at all but i do like the fact that it is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.

And the Vick thing...please get over it that guy actually got punished for what he did. He did what he had to do legally so its time to show some compassion and forgive. And yes I have a dog and am a dog lover. These guys even though football players are still human and should be treated as such. He served his time seems like he realizes what he did was stupid and ridiculous its time to get over it.

I do agree that sometimes victims are scared to come out. But you have to admit there are times (and not saying this is one) that men and women make stuff up to try and get paid. Wouldnt be the first time someone filed a fake allegation in hopes of getting paid. Again I am not saying if he did or didn't do what he was accused of I am just saying you shouldn't cast judgement without knowing for sure.

Sorry for the long response I just have a friend who was caught in somewhat of a situation like this, even though he isn't famous, he lost his job and his family because of it. Just to have it proved that he didn't really do anything at all.
