He don't fit the mold. We got that covered! He wishes he was a Raven, sorry Joey you are so last decade! Thank you Franchise for that video montage of J-Lew! What a beast, if nothing else, sign him and let him retire who he is, a real Raven!!

The beat goes on...

Have you ever played a down in the NFL or covered a team? How do you know NFL players don't keep grudges? And how can you say Miami let him go for financial reasons with such certainty? What facts do you have to back that up?

Had Porter racked up 15+ sacks last season, would they have let him go? Probably not. Money played part in him getting canned but so did him being limited to a sitiational role(due to declining skills) and him handling the situation poorly.

You say he's the best at his position on the market but if he could still be a force, why is he still jobless?

The Ravens are very serious about going to the SB and probably have tossed Porter's named around but he isn't coming here.

No, I have not played at the NFL level, and yes, I have socialized with NFL players. And no, they don't give a dang about $2 sports hacks or Gomers caught up in their Dr. Phil moments. Porter will be playing in the NFL this year.

This may be a bad comparison, but I played elite level baseball...and in baseball you def dont forget. If you act like a **** we def remember and you'll get yours. Thats why Barry Zito plunked Fielder in Spring Training almost 7 months after doing his walk off homerun dance. I would find it hard to believe that Heap would have no problem forgiving Porter.

I admittedly cringed when that happened, but I understand why it happened. I don't think Porter was proud of that, but he said the only reason he pushed Heap was in case he was playing possum. I don't think Heap was happy about it, but I don't think he believes Porter was trying to hurt him.

So the few NFL players you have socialized can speak for the hunreds of thousands that have played during your lifetime. LOL!

I don't know what "Dr.Phil moments" I'm having if that's what your implying. I laid out facts and could even begin posting articles that back up what I'm saying. You, on the other hand, are simply stating your opinion that you think is valid because you've talked with some NFL players.

And I never said Porter wouldn't play in the NFL this year. What I do want to see is what team gives him an every-down role.

The point being would Zito and Fielder or Ray Lewis. Todd Heap, and Porter become good teammates? The answer is yes provided those combos resulted in improved team play and wins- case closed.

I could agree with that. As bitter a rivalry as we have between our two teams, there is a lot of mutual respect as well. That's evident after every game.

Maybe they would but why make that point when it's pretty obvious that Porter isn't coming here because he's on the decline?

And why make a sweeping generalization about hundreds of people?

That's an opinion. A reasonable one, but most players his age have their best years behind them. That doesn't mean that can't contribute or even be an upgrade to their position.

This is why Joey Porter will never be a Raven.

He's a clown.
Has been clowned.
And will forever be a clown here in Baltimore.

The guy is literally the opposite of what we stand for here and I don't see why bringing him in is even a consideration.

I've got a friend who's a die hard Dolphins fan and "Peazy" is a laughing stock among their base as well.

He helped the Steelers do some things when he was young and his attitude was welcome, but when you're a loser, people aren't so quick to tolerate the foolishness.

PS- Ray Ray does his thing to motivate the guys around him, "Peazy" is all about "Peazy."

I disagree with all of this. It's argumentative at best. Also, your friends in Miami do not represent the entire fan base down there. I've been on a Phins forum who loved JP. He was a bright spot for them during his time there. And he motivates his teammates too. Did you see what he did for Jerome Bettis when they went to the SB in 2005? He bought everyone JB's Notre Dame jersey and organized that they'd all fly to Detroit wearing them. That was all about his teammate; not him.

True. But wouldn't you say that with Miami trying to make him a 3rd down rush specialist, Porter is definitely on the decline?

I agree he can still contribute and could even be an upgrade for some team but I don't think he'd be one on this team. J.J. isn't the pass-rusher Porter is but he appears to be more versatile.

I agree that his best years are behind him, but he was in the race for defensive MVP two years ago if I recall (folks were saying he was on the decline then too). I think he was in the top 2-3 in sacks.

Yep. Only reason he didn't win the sack title was because Ware and Harrison had monster seasons.

Yea. I'm surprised Ware didn't get it due to the numbers game, but Harrison was the MVP to the Steelers that year.

I would only have to assume the same people saying to make Porter a Raven are the same ones who want Owens.
My ONLY excuse for this mindset is that these are new Ravens' fans.

I ask you this, if someone spits in your face, are you the type to later forgive and forget? I for one, am not.

Both (Porter literally) have spit in our faces. And neither, no matter how talented they are have changed.

I have said it before, I would rather lose with integrity than to win at all costs.

Speaking of that, Frank Walker literally spit in Mitch Berger's face once. I actually liked him as a Giant, but not after that.

See my comment before about Frank Walker. This is the kind of trash that we are trying to get off our team right now. Porter would be a step backwards in that regard. From what I'm hearing, Walker is going to an NFC team. Good riddance.

Remember Frank Gore? He was notorious for spitting on visiting teams players.
O.K., back on topic! :smilies-5804:

The running back?

Well, despite this rather intense FB discussion (which I enjoyed thoroughly, thank you), I don't see JP in purple any more than any of you. And I'm happy about that just like you all are. lol

It's about time, I was trying to figure out how this thread still had legs. Now this thread can die and Porter can go off and either help or hurt Arizona. I still am trying to figure out why head coaches like to bring in players they have coached when they were the OC/DC on a other team. Good Luck Wisenhunt trying to keep Porter under control.

It's about familiarity. Coaches that have spent a long time with one team understand their players' strengths, weaknesses and likely developed a good relationship with them. It makes sense to bring in players that fit the system you run than try to have new players adapt and maybe struggle.

Though we've had a good, healthy debate, this thread will be closed with the news that Joey Porter has signed with the Cardinals.

Porter took advantage of his familiarity with his former Steelers coaches as well as the Cardinals' need to fill a vacancy at LB. Good for him. Either way, he's not a Raven.
