I believe that Carlton drafted quite well. To be honest I don't like the clash jumper at all, the white one looked so much better.

I also like this story, Carlton announces $2.2 million profit for 2010
I assume Essendon made a profit as well, it has been a great year.

Yes, Essendon had an outstanding year, and they should be looking to push for a top 6 spot.On the other hand, Carlton have drafted well this year, and i have high hopes for Watson & McCarthy. Looking foward to next year :lolpoof:

Luke Mitchell is now number 25, he has a lot to live up to.
Brock McLean went from 7-14
Watson is number 10
Lucas went from 24 to 9
McInnes is 26
Duigan is 34
McCarthy is 24

Hickmott is the last player I remember wearing the number.

Interesting that Richmond also made a profit this season.

Ergo, well done Ninjaturtle.

I also found it interesting that Richmond posted a profit this year of about $750,000 (not including the 1.9 million given to them by the government), and yet, they finished lower than Essendon.

Although the payout of Knights' contract contributed to the debt, it does not look good for Essendon.

I can't wait for the season to begin. I still don't like the clash guernsey.

Yes, yes, very interesting.

Essendon made a loss this year because they increased spending on player facilities, as well as the Knights thing. "Despite recording a loss, the Club's net asset position remains strong at $20.7m, including $1.3m in cash." Carlton only has $12million in net assets, so we still have more money than you.

It is worth noting that Richmond did not beat a Victorian team last year, and that they are terrible and always will be. They are also $6million in debt, unlike Essendon, who remain debt free.

How about North? Selling themselves to Ballarat? I thought they were going to Tassie? They should've done everyone a favour and gone to the Gold Coast when they had the chance.

Yes, Essendon might have more ASSETS than Carlton, however, what investments has the club made to continue earning a revenue in the future? Carlton happen to have several, and they are stable. We will overtake you soon.

North Melbourne are a pointless team that should be replaced by a Tasmanian team, and i agree with the later part of your statement.

Of course, there may be more to Essendon due to their publicity moves during the eighties and nineties, when the Bombers were becoming somewhat similar to McDonald's in promotion.

As for the 'Roos moving to Tasmania, or even Ballarat, that would be a surprise, but it would have to come at the expense of many North supporters.

Carlton were just as big, but some poor off-field decision put us in a very large debt. We were so lucky that Richard Pratt decided to help out his beloved club shortly before his death.

Carlton's future looks much brighter than Essendon's and I think that most non-biased AFL supporters would agree. After all those years at the bottom of the ladder, we better have.

Couldn't agree more with that statement. If it weren't for Pratt, Carlton would still be finishing in the bottom 4, and still have a massive amount of debt. He saved that club.

Looking forward to 2011!

It looks like Neagle did enough to regain his place on the team, but will he be a pre-season or a rookie draft pick? I wouldn't be surprised if St. Kilda took him in the rookie draft.

Carlton also had their bike ride to Sorrento, Kreuzer looks like a tank, hopefully he dominates this year.

Thread needs more Judd....

Looking forward to seeing the Sun's first match in the AFL. It just happens to fall against Carlton so needless to say i will be watching with interest (and the hope that the blues can go 2-0).

Somehow i think Aaron Joseph will get the tagging role on Ablett, as he has had it before with success, or maybe even Carrazzo. Looking forward to seeing a restocked backline and another key target up forward.

Go Blues!

Who's our new key target up forward? The only new player I can think of is Luke Mitchell and I don't think he will be playing many, if any games next season. Hopefully, although I doubt it, but now that we have Watson, Duigan, McCarthy and Laidler battling for positions in the backline it will free up Waite and he can go forward. As long as he learns how to kick running into the open goal from 20 metres out.

Also, the pre-season and rookie drafts were yesterday. Good to see Richmond stockpiling talent with the likes of Houli and Hislop, they aren't a very good team. We did okay with Curnow who came third in the VFL Best and Fairest after missing the last six games of the season. He also polled 5 BOG's in a row, just like someone else did in the Brownlow this year.

I still can't believe that Miles Sewell didn't get drafted, I feel sorry for the guy. He did everything this season for North Ballarat and still can't get a look in.

Good to see Jay Neagle and Rhys O'Keeffe getting re-drafted.

That's what worries me with Waite, he can't kick at goal while on the run, very athletic and can take a mark, but its his kicking that lets him down.

Essendon have been criticized heavily for re drafting 'the anvil' and many Essendon supporters have expressed their dis-enchantment over his redrafting. i think he can give something to the forward line, but like Gumby (Gumbleton) Essendon fans have seen little from such a high draft pick (i believe he went top 10, correct me if im wrong), in saying that Gumby started to show something this year.

Which leaves the question;

how would you rate Essendons & Carltons (for that matter) drafting over the last 5 years? Both have had reasonably high picks, yet one team seems to be doing a little better (the off-field events have been taken into account).

Gumby was pick two behind Bryce Gibbs, I would have thought you would have known that. When has Essendon been criticized for re-drafting Jay Neagle, if anything it is a very good move, he has a chance to lose that weight and not take take up a spot on the senior list.

With Carlton's drafting, I don't think that Wayne Hughes has had that difficult a job having the first overall pick the last few years. SInce we haven't had second round picks from trades, his latter picks wont always look as good.

His drafts since 2005:
2005-
1- Murphy
5- Kennedy (traded, got us Judd)
20- Bower (one of our better rebounding defenders)
36- Jake Edwards (delisted)
2006-
1- Gibbs
17- Hampson (getting better)
19- Grigg (traded)
35- Austin (injured/struggling)
51- Benjamin (delisted)
67- Joe Anderson (delisted)
2007-
1- Kreuzer
36- Browne (delisted)
46- Armfield (consistent performer)
2008-
6- Yaz (time will tell)
40- Mitch Robinson (should get better, not much though)
65- O'Keeffe (rookied)
80- Tiller (delisted)
2009- (too early)
12- Lucas
43- Davies
59- Rohan Kerr

I won't do 2010, but Hughes hasn't done that well with later picks, but they have a very low hit ratio. I won't comment on Essendon's drafting (leave that to Gumbleton) but with all the high picks that we have had, I think that we have been in a much better position draft wise and now it is starting to show.

Ps. Please stop using the term(s) dis-enchanting, dis-enchanted, dis-enchantment.

Good to Essendon getting it all together and showing the bowls club that they can move on.

"ESSENDON is ready to leave its historic Windy Hill home for new headquarters at Melbourne Airport."

Good luck to them, in all seriousness it should be a good investment.

I'm a little bit dis-enchanted about the dis-enchanting way we're leaving Windy Hill, although we'll still be based there in some capacity and this new training ground looks very good so I don't feel too much dis-enchantment.

I don't think you can compare Carlton's picks to Essendon, they've had 3 number one picks and 6 top five picks from 2005 - 2009, while Essendon have had 0 number ones and only 2 top five picks in the same period. Having said that they have used them pretty well and we have drafted pretty poorly.

Neagle was drafted with pick 49, I have no problems with redrafting him and I don't think too many other Essendon supporters did. It made him train harder and lose weight. Besides, we only used pick 29 in the rookie draft. I doubt there would have been any better players than Neagle available.

2005
7 - Paddy Ryder (inconsistent but can be very good)
19 - Courtney Dempsey (decent)
39 (father son) - Jay Neagle (best power forward in the AFL)
50 - Sam Lonergan (struggling)

2006
2 - Scott Gumbleton (The best player in the AFL at the moment, if not of all time)
20 - Tom Hislop (who?)
36 - Alwyn Davey (very good a few years ago, struggling recently)
42 - Bachar Houli (terrible player, what were we thinking?)

2007
6 - David Myers (bad move, passed on Palmer, Rioli and Grimes for him and he hasn't shown much)
23 - Tayte Pears (consistent and improving)
39 (father son)- Darcy Daniher (haven't seen enough of him)
54 - Cale Hooker (very good for pick 54)

2008
8 - Michael Hurley (gun)
23 - David Zaharakis (very good pickup)
39 - Traded for Prismall (bloody prismall)

2009
10 - Jake Melksham
24 - Jake Carlisle
26 - Travis Coyler
(All look very promising and have all shown a bit)

I think that in general Carlton have drafter better with their early picks and Essendon have done well with their later ones.

We tried to get rid of him and Thornton during trade week, but no-one wanted them. Our key forwards next year will be Waite and Henderson. I can't see us drafting a 26 year old to let him 'develop'. Matthew Watson should also be given a chance at CHB.

KHunt won't play round one because they have a bye round 1. We play them in round two. I hope that they play him at CHF, that way our weaknesses won't be exploited. He is terrible, almost as bad as Gumby.

Are you ready for Supercoach next year? They are giving everyone three extra players to try and compensate for the bye, I don't think it will work.

Yep.

A disgruntled girl released two lewd photos on Facebook containing St. Kilda players "doing stuff." I can't really say much more. If you search Nick Riewoldt or Nick Dal Santo on google or Facebook you will immediately find out what happened.

Apparently, even though a court order has been issued, she is set to release several more images.

That's okay, NinjaTurtle, I understand; fortunately, I looked up that name on Yahoo!, and linked to the story from The Age, so now I know what happened.

All I can say is this shouldn't have happened.
