Does Anyone Here Watch The AFL?

I was just wondering if anyone watches it. If you have what do you think?

I don't watch it that often but one of my really good friends here is from Australia and I've watched a few games with him. It's really pretty cool to watch and amazing how athletic some of those players are.

He is a big Essendon fan and his brother still lives in Australia; I've sent him Browns and other random NFL items and he's sent me some Essendon items.. even a nice jersey!

Back in the eighties, when the matches were on ESPN, I used to watch them with a passion, and I only wish I could watch them today, but there are no carriers on my cable service here.

I still think very highly of Essendon, and I could picture myself wearing the black with red sash of Essendon as a footballer in Australia, followed by Collingwood and then Melbourne.

I think the game captures its own spirit which you hardly see in American football, especially the "marking" or catching aspect of the game.

As an Aussie I have to say yes. I am a madly passionate Essendon fan. (George70 if you're going to be a proper Essendon fan you must hate Collingwood above all others!!)

Your midfield will win you some games (not against us though) but no Fev or Fisher will hurt. If Warnock can step up and release Kreuzer it will help but he is still too young to carry the whole forward line against the number 1 defenders like Scarlett, Fletcher/Pears, Bock, etc. I think you'll finish 8-10 although I hope it's 15, only above Collingwood!!

Mex, you are correct, and I strike my remarks in regard to the "Black and White Army".

I can still recall that 1984 Grand Final, when our Essendon came back from such a deficit to win it all. When Leon Baker kicked the goal that put the Dons in front, I was so happy, screaming, "Take That, Hawthorn!", and loving it.

Whenever Essendon appears in a Grand Final, I am so happy and have belief that we will hoist the premiership flag.

Still makes me smile. As do '85, '93 and 2000 (especially 2000). We are due again soon. Probably not this year but in the next 2-4 I hope we become the first team to have won 17 premierships!

I like watching the games when I can because it kind of reminds me of hockey.. just going all out non-stop until you are forced to stop. My friend Nick was at the Grand Final in 2000 and showed me a tape he recorded while being at it.. it just looked really awesome and if by some chance I EVER go to Australia I'd love to go and see a game live.

You won't regret it, the atmosphere inside the stadium is amazing. Just watching the reactions of all the faces in the crowd after a bad call can be worth the admission price alone. (especially Collingwood supporters. )

BTW. That video was epic, especially Fev's Goal, I can still remember that.
Too bad he can't behave himself.

Good to see Green Bay have picked up one of "your" old duds in Chris Bryan as a kicker. I laughed at his 0 disposal game in 2005(?) and laughed at the Packers when I heard they picked him up.

I just hope AFL is not judged on him when there are so many better players. I can imagine someone like Jonathon Brown, Quentin Lynch, Dustin Fletcher or even Fev being much more successful as a kicker.

You mean punter, but it is pretty funny how they picked up one of our rejects. Seriously, i think that if Dustin Fletcher or the big Q-Stick went over to play NFL they'd be turning heads, do you remember that 75m goal against St.Kilda? That was HUGE.

The best thing about our guys is the accuracy over distance. Hang time would be the only issue as we usually go for delivery at speed.

I can't wait, hopefully another 83 point flogging. I feel a lot better knowing that Waite and Murphy will play, but without Fev I have no clue how we'll score enough to put the good teams away.

Back to the punting, I was watching footage of Chris Bryan a few days ago and I didn't think he was too bad, on the Packers forums they were saying how good his hang time was, I just can't understand why they gave him a three year contract already... I suppose they see something in him.
