Could This Be The Year?

26 posts in this topic

I think a lot depends on what players we keep and the free agents/trades/draft picks we decide on. We've made it to the playoffs back to back years and we have one of the most stable FO's in the NFL as well as an incredible coaching staff. We definitely have the pieces to make a Superbowl run, we just need to address some key areas- ie: WR, DL and the Secondary (pending retirements and how Webb and Washington heal).

If those areas are addressed then I should we could shape in to a perennial SB contender.

Consistency and finishing ball games. Playing well when it counts the most, as opposed to choking in the big games. These are the features of championship teams. These are our biggest issues (obvioulsy). If we fix these things, there is no reason for us to miss the Super Bowl.

10-6. Loose the wildcard game.

Troll. If you have nothing positive to say about the team, then don't say it and keep it to yourself.

Wow. Marshall alone won't get this team to the Super Bowl. I'll guarantee THAT.

I know it all doesn't hinge on him but have the Broncos ever make the play-offs during Marshall's time there?

We have our basic pieces in order, now is the time to finish the puzzle by adding some WR & TE's.
[/quote]

Some DEs capable of applying pressure, CBs and OT depth wouldn't hurt either.

Funny how the Broncos have had Marshall for a while now and haven't even made the playoffs.

But no, I'm sure he'd make all the difference for this team...totally.

Okay people... I was playing the odds. Only one team wins the Super Bowl... and it's a highly unlikely chance that the Ravens are willing to give up their draft picks no matter how much I disagree with it.

So even if the Ravens made it to the AFC Championship... but lost there, my guarantee would be correct.

But as to those of you arguing that "Marshall alone won't win this team a Super Bowl..."

Umm, of course not. Did I say if the Ravens cut every single player on their roster and just played Marshall they would win? No. You have to have 11 people on offense, defense, and special teams. Don't be stupid, I didn't say Marshall could win the Super Bowl by himself. Of course other players are needed.

I don't think anyone took your statement that literally.

What you did say was that if this team gets Marshall, they'll make it to the Super Bowl. From that statement, one would assume you mean the Ravens don't really need to bolster positions like TE, DE and CB and can go to the Super Bowl with Marshall being the only major acquisition.

If we get another potential receiver, our players are healthy, and the defense plays like they did toward the end of the year like they did last year, we could very well go all the way. I think two years of making the playoffs has taught us what we need to work on, and this year we will improve on those things and win the superbowl.

If the Ravens traded a 1st and 3rd for Marshall with their current roster they would not win the Super Bowl. The Dline is about 100 years old in football years, generates zero push, and struggled run stopping this year at times. The secondary as it stands right now has Frank Walker starting. Those picks are essential to our future, as on our defense we currently have 3 play makers and 2 of them are 32+ years old and the other one just finished a season of fatness. On offense we have what, 1 real legit play maker? Theres no denying Marshall makes us better, but to say getting Marshall would get us to the super bowl is entirely incorrect.

I agree completely. No one should overlook draft picks just because one or two flashy FAs are floating around. D Line is a team need that we will keep reinforcing. But if we TRADE for Wilfork or Peppers, I won't be the least bit happy. Wilfork will cost too much and Peppers has never played OLB in a 3-4 in the NFL. Bottomline is, keep the picks and use them to fill needs like WR and DL.

Amen. I was too lazy to break it down but you're completely right.

Yes WR is a need but some people seem to be in denial concerning the dearth of talent or lack of long-term prospects at a number of positions. Not all the needs will be addressed this year but it would make more sense for the Ravens to bolster several positions rahter than just upgrade one in a major way this year.

Wow I'm SO glad the Raven's aren't a democracy. Obviously "Marshall alone won't win this team a Super Bowl..." wasn't intended to imply that you thought he could win it literally by himself. What it REALLY means was that if even if we do get Marshall, if we don't bring in some other talented players and bolster our D-Line and Secondary than it won't make a ****** difference whether we have Marshall or not. You seem to be under the impression that if we did nothing but sign Marshall we'd be guaranteed a Super Bowl. I utterly disagree with you, but hey I guess we all have our differences.

You really think what this team needs is a diva receiver for a ludicrous paycheck and a 1st and a 3rd round pick (in an incredibly deep draft)? Hell no, especially not when we have to resign Gaither, McClain, and Yanda, plus Ngata's contract is coming up. Here's some other things to think about: Chris Carr and FRANK WALKER are starting cornerbacks, and our D-Line is practically senile.

Also, thanks for your "guarantee". I could guarantee a ton of stuff too, if I knew that I would never be called on it because its based on a premise (ie trading for Marshall) that even you acknowledge is highly unlikely.

Dude, Marshall doesn't guarantee anything. Nowadays every team has a flashy WR so why wouldnt the Colts win or the Texans? Marshall helps but why not just make the whole team better?

And not to mention, I think the talent aspect is not the whole variable in our own Super Bowl equation.

Our mindset, our motavation, our drive this season. I think we have to go into this season knowing we are going to the big game. We have to be ready not only physically but mentally. Sure we need some WR, DL, and CB help, but I think our mindset is the factor. The difference if our young talent steps up. If Flacco becomes the top 5 QB he has the potential to be, if Ray Rice takes his game to a whole new level.

Im predicting a Cinderella story for the Ravens. As Ray Lewis goes into the first game with his famous pep talks and get this team ready for a season we will never forget.

All about execution, health, and the will to play. IMO we're 2-3 players short of being considered one of the elites, that's why this off season is extremely crucial.
