Ravens Sound Fx

16 posts in this topic

I dont no if you guys caught last weeks sound fx on nfl network, but I like what harbs said to ray rice. Rice had just turned the ball over at the end of the colts game and was balling on the sideline. Harbs hugs him and says we werent good enough this year but I promise we will get better players for you and joe next year. That tells me alot hearing him say we will get better players instead of waiting for other wr to breakout.

I dont like that at all. He is basically saying it was all the recievers faults (which is very reasonable) but fumbling is his fault.

You think Childress pulled on his nipple for Peterson to latch on to cuz he fumbled but blamed it on that DB's who couldnt stop brees?

If anything should have been said to Ray, it would have been next year we will have better play calling for you and Joe. I dont know what better players Ray Rice would need since he has a pretty darn good Offensivle line and a pro bowl full back. Jamal didn't even have that and he has a ring....

Why is it unreasonable? He was speaking the truth. Do you remember the context of the Colts game? Their game plan was, spy Ray Rice with Gary Brackett and they won't be able to move the ball... and it worked. What Harbs is saying that next year I'm not going to put you in a position where a team can focus on you and win a ball game.

The frustration is akin to "hack-a-Shaq" in the NBA. Different circumstances but even a guy like Ray Rice is going to struggle if a team can hone in on him. Harbs was telling him that we're going to bring in guys who command attention so that he can be freed up and not carry our team on his shoulders in RUSHING AND RECEIVING. There is absolutely NO reason our leading rusher should also be our leading receiver. Rice understands that, Harbs understands that, hell, I'm sure our receivers are ashamed of it. We were exposed in that game, Harbs was just being honest. :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:

Im not hating on Jamal or anything, but Jamal had the best defense of all time to work with. Peterson's problem is different, the dude fumbles all the time and there was almost never 8 in the box this year for him. Rice was constantly seeing 8 and 9 man fronts. AP already has the good receivers and an elite QB throwing the ball. Childress was so upset with the game on the line against the Saints, he gave the ball to Chester Taylor because he didnt want AP to fumble and didnt trust him.

I have no problem with Harbaugh saying this to Rice.

Mason shouldn't be the primary option in a passing game anymore, Heap is old, Washington was underused but not exactly a difference-maker and the less said about everyone else the better.

So far the team has added Stallworth, who like Washington, will be a complentary option. However, the Ravens must and will continue to improve the weapons in the passing game.

As a complementary player, I think Stallworth will help more than Washington did last year. What he can do is the same thing that Chris Henry did for Cincy. Their passing game was fine early on, but when he went down, he took their passing game with him. A deep threat should open up other receivers. Stallworth might not pad the stats this year, but he'll force other teams to not fill the box, and can take attention away from other receivers. If he doesn't work out, not like we broke the bank for him. This signing does sort of help Rice. I hope he gets even more help, too.

Good point. Hopefully, the 4.3 40 Stallworth ran in the workout translates to the field and he plays like he did in '07.

I dont like how he finally admits to not being good enough, but all year to ours and the medias faces he was talking about how good of a football team we had.

Well, to Harbs credit he even said in his last PC that they were NOT good enough. It's pretty obvious though, the team didn't hoist a Lombardi ( not good enough). Did you really expect Harbs to say his team wasn't good enough BEFORE the season was actually over?

NOBI, we did have a good team just not a GREAT team. Great teams get achance to play for the Supertbowl

So I guess to you it's only a good football team if they get to the Super Bowl. Or win the Super Bowl?

Apparently you don't understand the difference between being good and being good enough. We did have a good football team this year, top 10 at least. I'm not sure what you want from Harbaugh. Do you want negative, self-defeating talk, or confidence building?

Um...he was the leading rusher and receiver on our team. If you don't see a problem with that...well, I dunno.

If you remember, Rice was fighting like a mad man before that fumble. He broke like 5 tackles and tried to force it, because we were so desperate. Peterson had a fantastic passing game to rely on, and he fumbles all the time, there's no excuse. Ray Rice handles the ball well, and that fumble didn't cost us the game. We need more balance, and Harbaugh was right on. I don't think you get it, judging by your last two sentences.

And I dont think you get what you are talking about. Balance? So Trent Dilfer was better than Joe Flacco? I'm blaming the play calling not the talent. We didnt have WR's in 2000 and we dont have them now, the only difference is the playcalling and utilization of better players such as LJ (who wasn't that injured, Cam just hates 2 TE sets) and Kelley Washington who actually produced unlike Mark Clayton.

None of the recievers on the Saints are Great. Period. They are all average and their Offensive line was decent yet Drew Brees has a ring.

It's all about the playcalling and Cam failed us that day.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight....because our defense this season was as good as in 2000...way to shatter your credibility by saying that play calling is the only difference between teams that are a decade apart. Trent Dilfer had Shannon Sharpe and a MUCH better defense.

I never said that the play calling this season was great, I said that Harbaugh was justified in comforting Ray and saying that we need better players and that we're not good enough yet. NO ONE denies that we have poor receivers, in fact prior to the 2009 season some analysts said that we had the worst receivers in the NFL. Ozzie thought Demetrius Williams could pick up some of that slack...obviously he was mistaken.

Oh...and you must be kidding about the Saints. They are all average? Not one above average receiver on the Saints? Give me a BREAK. They have multiple above average receivers. If you have multiple average and above average receivers like the Saints do, that works. If you have one great receiver that draws attention, and a few other average receivers, that works too. If you have one average or above average receiver and a bunch of BELOW AVERAGE receivers, that doesn't work, and that's what we had. Better play calling could have made the situation somewhat better, but we just weren't good enough and it showed this season. We need to get Flacco and Rice some help, just like Harbaugh said.
