LT Vs. Willis McGahee

28 posts in this topic

I have heard some talks this morning that we should go after LT. While LT is clearly not the player he once was, would he be an upgrade over Willis McGahee. While McGahee played well at the end of the season, his motivation may have been to audition for other teams. If he comes back this season, he may not be as dedicated in that backup role.

Also, signing LT would not come under the Final 8 rules since he was released.

I am not saying yeah or nay to either, but I would like to get the masses opinions on whether getting LT is an upgrade over Willis?

Whether L.T. is better than McGahee or vice versa is debatable.

What we know for sure is the team plans on keeping McGahee and even if he dogs it in 2010(which I doubt), the team is comfortable with Parmele or Lawrence as back-ups. Both are young, cheap and behind the team's good run-blocking o-line, they could both be serviceable spell backs.

I would love to sign L.T. and trade McGahee for some picks or a player. While it might not be an upgrade, he could be of equal value as a back-up. Imagine Rice VS L.T.

Thats a possibility and Tomlinson wants to go to a team with a shot of getting a ring!

L.T. isn't coming to Baltimore.

It just doesn't make sense to pay for a declining RB to come in and be a back-up when there already younger, fresher RBs on the roster.

McGahee had 5 YPC last year, LT had 3.3, this isnt even a debate McGahee is the far better option.

Agree 100%, LT is washed up and gets hurt all the time. McGahee is on the decline but not washed up yet

Absolutely not.

If Rice is tired or goes down you bring in McGahee who eats up yards.

If Rice is tired or goes down you bring in LT to slip and fall.

If this was the LT of old I would consider it but it obviously isn't. Wouldn't be surprised to see the pats pick him up seeing as they take every other old workhorse RB.

Not McGahee's biggest fan but I really prefer him over LT at this point. Tomlinson is spent. He has no explosion any more and without there you're not gonna do alot at running back without a 235+ pound frame and a great O-Line. You couldn't even make the argument that he could come and mentor Rice; LT is all about himself.

I not really a big fan of willis, but he had a couple of really good games last year, and LT just isn't nearly as good as he used to be. Keep willis.

No, I would rather have Willis as a Raven then LT. LT was one of my favorite players, but he wouldn't survive in the AFC as a declining RB. Didn't he already say he will only sign with a team if he was gonna be a starter? There is no way they will let him start over Rice.

No thanks to L.T. Willis is younger, stronger and a better fit for the Ravens style of play. Tomlinson today is not the Tomlinson he was. You can't out run time! We have other needs to fill, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I dont know how dudes arent a fan of McGahee here, ya he was lazy in 08 and got hurt. He came back in 09 with a vengeance, best shape of his life for being 27 and it showed. He played with so much heart and passion in the AFCCG it was ridiculous blitz blocking, receiving, and rushing for our only scores, laid his body on the line for an awful throw by Flacco and paid the price big time. Came in and won the damn Raiders game by himself to send us to the playoffs when Flacco was in his injury/cant make a read zone for the last 4 weeks of the year. McGahee forever has my respect for what he did last year in the AFCCG in 2008.

Well said. McGahee put on a pass blocking clinic in the '09 AFC Championship but I also remember him destroying blitzing Steelers LBs during the embarrassing 2007 MNF game against the Steelers. One one play, McGahee chop-blocked Harrison so violently he caused him to do a mid-air flip and I think he got a concussion on the same play too.

McGahee is the man.

So.... when LT gets released everyone wants to dump McGahee? We going to start a thread for every running back who could be an "upgrade" over Willis gets released. Let me think..... I'd much rather keep Willis around over anybody. What's next, a billion RB threads in the Draft section on who could compliment Rice. In case you guys forgot, here's an article about..... that they plan on KEEPING Willis around for next season. Again let me say this, the only reason anyone wants him gone is because of his salary and the Ravens wouldn't keep him if they didn't want to pay him his 3.6 Million for this year.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/02/18/report-mcgahee-will-remain-with-ravens/

Can't wait for Free Agency and The Draft to be over with and Willis is on the team come Training Camp and Opening day, than I wonder what all the Willis haters will complain about.

Good feedback and good points. I do like the upside of a Matthew Lawrence and Jalen Parmele.

We have other team needs to deal with. RB isn't one of them. LT will more than likely end up in Houston, where the Texans are on the verge of being an elite team, and they need a RB. McGahee wins this debate, no question.

You can say what you want about Mcgahee, but the fact of the matter is that after 2008, he worked hard in the offseason, had a great attitude, didn't complain about being #2 to Rice and he put 12 balls in the end zone last year as well.

Let's not forget that over the past two seasons he has only had 270 attempts, 24 less than he had in the 2007 season alone. Mcgahee is younger than L.T, right now I'd say that he's better than L.T. and he's also fresher than L.T.

McGahee stays and fulfills his contract. No one in the NFL will pay those dollars for him anyway. I like Willis, he's adapted well to his role and what NFL running back wouldn't like to score 14 touchdowns like he did last year. He spells relief for Rice when he tires. Not a bad keeper in my book... Go Willis, make 'em glad the Ravens kept you!

Willis has always been one of my favorite RB's. He is not worth getting rid of. Unless we get an insane deal he is 28 and is a vital part to our top 5 rushing attack which is only on the way up. Unless we get a great deal, its not worth it to deal him.

I would rather have Willis because LT would eat up salary cap more so then Willis, LT would also want lots of playing time & there is no need to mess up Rice's rhythm & development for a much older LT. Willis and Rice when completely healthy are the perfect RB duo & it seems Willis is okay with Rice being starter and him being 2nd string. We should probably focus on our WR corps now if we sign anymore free agents to our offense.

Sad thing is, Jerry Rice would actually be an upgrade...

On-topic: LT isn't good anymore, Willis is still playing at a very high level.

McGahee is the better player at the moment, LT isn't as good as he once was and is 30, so if i had to choose it'd be McGahee.
