Another good racing game is Blur. Basically, it's like Mario Kart except with real cars. I'm not sure how many people are usually playing it online though(when PSN is working obviously) because the number of users on 360 is usually pretty low whenever I'm playing it.

Burnout Paradise is also a lot of fun. Big, open-world racing game with lots of stuff to do. It's also been out for quite awhile, like Blur, so you can probably get it for cheap.
Yea I have never played Blur but I own Paradise which isn't bad. For racing games I have

Motorstorm 1 + 2
NFS Undercover, Pro Street, Carbon
Dirt 2
GT 5 Prologue and GT5
Burnout Paradise

That's not bad game design. That was indeed the entire intention of the developer. Demon's Souls is a game of trial and error. You slip up even the slightest and you're done. You have to be on your toes at all times and work your character to the best of your ability. No checkpoints or anything to hold your hand. You have to get good or become cattle. Period.
I don't care if that's their intention or not, it still screams bad game design to me. They're essentially killing a lot of their potential fan-base because they don't want to, at the very least, include an alternate difficulty level in which there are checkpoints. I mean, how hard is that to do? They wouldn't even have to change anything about the game except to add some checkpoints here and there to lessen the frustration from cheap deaths. (even the Ninja Gaiden games have save points at least!)

Checkpoints and an alternative difficulties would absolutely ruin the game for me and for the hardcore fan base of the game. Nowadays, all these games hold your hands with checkpoints and so forth but not Demon's Souls. You have to get good and learn from your mistakes instead of having the mentality "Oh, it doesn't matter if I die cause I'll respawn back where I was anyway".

It's not a game that's supposed to appeal to everyone but for someone who is looking for a challenging and rewarding experience, Demon's Souls is one of if not the best game out there that offers that.

Edit: To add to this, this guy sounds a lot like you when you were talking about throwing your controller but in the end, he saw exactly what I'm speaking of about Demons Souls. He even went as far as to say Demons' Souls makes you use your gamer skills that you probably haven't used in a decade.

How would it ruin the game to have an "alternate" (meaning you don't have to choose it) difficulty level? It would simply be providing another way to play the game for those of us who don't have the time and/or patience to play through the same level 50 times just to pass it. Keep the other difficulty level the same as is, with no checkpoints and both sides are happy. I fail to see how that would be "ruining" the game.

For one, it wouldn't be fair to those who worked hard to get to the level that they were on while others can choose a easier difficulty and get to the same spot you're on. Online in Demons' Souls, you basically share world with people being able to invade you(with the intention of killing you) and so forth. If I'm on a crazy high level, how is it fair that someone else can choose a easier difficulty and get to the exact same level I'm on and invade and kill me? It ruins the rewarding portion of the game which is the best part about it. You get rewarded for not making bad choices and getting good at the game.

I doubt it's that gamers don't have time to play through levels because if you didn't have time you wouldn't be playing the game in the first place. It's indeed patience that is the key to the game. Like I said, it won't appeal to every gamer but for those who have the patience to stick around and perfect your craft, it's crazy rewarding unlike other games.

It's simple: prevent the "easy" difficulty players from invading other "hard" difficulty players. Once again, shouldn't be that hard to do.

Anyways, it's quite obvious that I'm not gonna change your mind on this, but that's what I would do if I were one of the game designers. I don't think all gamers should be forced to suffer through the same tough as nails difficulty level if they don't want to. Now, your answer might be to just not play it and go buy a different game. However, if I want to sell more copies of my game then I'm gonna include an easier setting so that more people will be able to experience it. If the hardcore fans of my game want to complain then so be it. They'll still have the same game-play as normal and will be able to have the same experience playing the game.

In my opinion, I would only have alternative difficulties outside online and they should have the option to go online or not.(currently if you're hooked to the internet then you automatically go online) It seems like doing what you suggested would separate the community a bit too much. Online should be that same challenging experience where everyone is on the same difficulty.

It's not going to be for everybody. This is a niche game to the core and that was their intentions. In the end, it is hard to find a game nowadays that doesn't walk you through the entire game. It actually rewards you and the game was just too refreshing from what's out. I respect your opinion, though. Not the first time I've heard it.

Wasn't sure where to put this at but since this is all things PS3, I figured posting problems with the PS3 could work in this thread. I tend to play my PS3 a ton, especially with Madden where I could play 2-4 games at 6 minute Quarters. As I keep playing, I can really hear the fan and it's really loud. I don't know if that is suppose to happen but I'm also worried that the fan could really become an issue, can anyone help me on what it could mean? Thanks.

Oh okay. There is a rumored price drop coming this year for the PS3 so that may be something to look out for.

Well all PS3s get hot after a good amount of gameplay which causes the fan to go faster. My slim even does it.

I recommend vacuuming out the vents of it to clear any access dust and do it at least once a month. How long have you had your PS3 and about how much time does it take for the fan to go crazy?

Yeah my PS3 does collect a ton of dust so I take a wipe and try to remove the dust from the PS3 to keep it clean. I have it since 2007, and I would say about 10-15 minutes before I really can hear the fan.

Yeah I feel you but then you have to account for the dust on the inside. That's where a vacuum comes in handy. I vacuum out mine at least once a month to clear out the dust.

Do you take it apart or just vacuum it without taking it apart?

I have 2 old phats and a slim. The old phats had terrible thermal compound applied on the chips and after awhile it turns to dust, thus no heat transfer from the chips to the heatsink.

If your warranty is up and your worried about heat, follow a guide on youtube, crack it open, clean out the dust. remove the old compound with rubbing alcohol and apply new. Best thing you can do to a phat.
"As reported by Digitimes, a Taiwanese manufacturer has claimed that a PlayStation 4 is on track for release in 2012, and that it will feature "body movement-based control like Kinect"
LINK

Either Microsoft or Sony is going to announce their new console next year I believe, but I would like to point out that Sony released the PS3 six years into the Playstation 2's ten year cycle in 2006 so if the Playstation 4 did come next year it would be right on time.

I could definitely see both Sony and Microsoft unveiling their new consoles at next years E3 and releasing them in time for Christmas! The PS1 was also out six years when the PS2 was released so like you said, it would fit with their usual time frame.

I don't believe the reports are true about the PS4 coming out next year, particularly when the company is still working to rebuild consumer trust after the PSN attacks. Furthermore, the company cannot afford to pump money into the manufacturing of a new console yet when they're just about to embark on a massive marketing campaign for the PlayStation Vita later this year. Also, the PlayStation 3 has only started to become profitable in the last two years, and it'd be wise for Sony to continue to profit from the PS3 with the slate of AAA titles being released over the next two years before they push new hardware onto the market.

Beyond that, there's been no word from any major developer that a new PlayStation is on the horizon. Sony would be sending new development kits to these major publishers and developers before they even unveil a new system so they can show off the hardware capabilities. Sony and Microsoft don't do business like Nintendo and show footage of games from other consoles as a stand-in for their own console's potential.

My point is, the turnaround time would be far too quick, and there just isn't enough evidence to support the likelihood of a launch coming next holiday season with the amount of time and money that goes into a new console.

I don't buy into the report though, because: 1) Sony hasn't maximized the profit on the PS3 just yet, particularly when the console is just now catching up to the 360's install base; and 2) developers still haven't reached the full potential of the console. It's just too soon for a new console, especially with a new handheld about to hit the market and an expensive marketing campaign that'll likely follow. With lawsuits still active regarding the removal of Linux and the compromising of personal info, Sony cannot afford to dump money into a console launch when they're bleeding money from all these other factors.

Now that I think about it, you may be right. They still have to worry about consumer trust and the PSN attack made them lose millions. It does seem a little premature to release a console rather than spending time to recover from all of that.

Edit: Along with that, I don't believe Microsoft is making the announcement of a new console next year either. Kinect added a new dynamic to the 360 and the announcement of Halo 4 for Fall of 2012 solidified that thought for me. You don't release a game of Halo's magnitude on a console you're about to drop.

I own a ps3, so im not bashing but, the ps3 is lacking the memorable games that the ps2 had.

MGS4 was great, but just didnt match up, Socom 4 is terrible, final fantasy was nothing special and was even on Xbox,

only one the was great was Gow3.

Sony is focusing on bringing back the greats like ICO and SOTC when they should be making new greats

You don't really get good storytelling that will keep you submersed into games nowadays. Since multiplayer is the thing this generation, single players have become afterthoughts. It's really sad because I love a good single player that gives you something to hold on to. MGS4 was probably the only game this generation that had me emotionally invested in it and that's because I'm a long time fan of the entire series.

This gaming generation overall had nothing on last generation period. Great games came about but innovation really lacked.

I agree. There were very few games this generation that made me say, "wow," and I can't even think of those off the top of my head. It's not just my nostalgia talking -- the gaming industry has simply been on a creative decline. Partially it's because of casual games killing innovation, but it's also because there's no financial incentive for developers to innovate more than needed since people will buy garbage in droves (myself having been guilty of this, too).
