Breaking News: Ravens Sign WR Donte' Stallworth.

175 posts in this topic

I think the Stallworth signing was a good risk to take.

I want to see what Eron Riley does in camp. He has great potential.

So you're saying the FO won't sign another pass catcher, we won't draft a good receiver, and despite all of these premises that you've come to by using logic i can't follow, you're stoked to have the shoddy corps that you mentioned before?

I'm lost. Brah you're giving Ravens fans in Hawai'i a bad name.

It's not that complicated, Hawaiian. This is what we have AT THE MOMENT. When we pick-up someone we have all been dreaming of running slant routes for our team, give me a shout i'll be back to apologize. No where did i say i was stoked to have our corp the way it is, i'm just not setting myself up for a let-down.
And what do you mean im giving fans in Hawaii a bad name? You're the one baffled by a simple opinion...

I agree with you. Everyone wants Boldin (injury prone) and Brandon Marshall (Big baby) and at what cost? two draft picks or a player? I wouldn't say I am comfortable with what we have but Donte is much better than Clayton and I would like to see more of kelley washington. Harper runs great routes but needs to work on his hands. I still say we draft a WR in the second and bring them up but who knows what Ozzie will do.

Still dont know why we dont run Two Tight end sets that way it would not only improve run blocking but play action passes aswell.

I feel like Mason will come back next year and now with us getting Stallworth I would love to see us get rid of Clayton somehow. I watched that guy just punch balls straight out of the air instead of catching them. I like Washington but I'm not sure if I like him enough to be labeled as our #3. I'd like to see us pick up Marshall or Boldin but I also would be okay if it didn't happen. I'm happy with this choice because like you guys have said we got him for 900k and he is wanting to come back into the league with a vengeance and prove himself, two things that I think make him fit even better as a Raven. And so what if he has had some legal trouble, I don't think any Ravens fan is going to hold that against him, if anything it makes me like him a little more as a Raven

I'm not saying Riley doesn't have potential but he only made two plays in pre-season. As impressive as they were, it came against practice-squad fodder.

Until he makes the final roster, let's temper our expectations.

Indeed, but how can you really find out about a player unless he's actually in game situations?

Stalworths contract is just 900k. About double what the minimum is making. That's not a huge risk. Its a smart move to bring him on when you don't even know if Mason will be back and you may need to add two receivers. If he doesn't work out he can be cut without a lot of cap damage.

there is no cap next year

True. We'll see if he's improved his game in camp.

I have heard some of the responses to this signing on the radio and on the internet. Why are some acting as if we just signed Stallworth to a 6 year 80M contract with 20M guaranteed? It cracks me up. This is a very low risk signing. It's a one year deal worth less than a million. If he becomes injury prone, then we cut him and move on.

This was a smart move by the Raven to sign a player that was cut. Any player that was cut does not fall under this Top 8 rule.

Stallworth is just filler. Best case scenario, he becomes our number 3 receiver in the slot or just to run down the field on selected plays and catch the deep pass.

If we get 45 catches, 17+ yards per catch, out of him, then it is a signing worth making. The guy ran a 4.3 recently on three occasions. If he just goes to keep the 8 guys out of the box and open up space for Ray Rice to do damage, then so be it.

just received a text from a 12th person about "murderers" and "convicts."

Pittsburgh fans are so creative.

Donte, let your play do the talking. I can't wait to see you come into camp with a chip on your shoulder and something to prove.

And maybe 10 touchdowns to go along with that would be super nice.

Well now, who else are we dreaming of bringing to Bmore? You expect Mason to come back? Or are we hoping that Clayton steps up to have another 900+ receiving season? Or maybe.... we get B. Marshall, no...VINCENT JACKSON! Or...maybe we'll find a WR gem with our picks. Snap back to reality. Because K.Wash has veteran leadership, hands, can take a hit. Stallworth has yet to prove himself, but i expect to see a playmaker waiting to step up beside Clayton. And speed in the slot like Harper..
[/quote]
Say what you want to justify your group, but I can 100% say that your list will not be the starting WR's for the ravens in 2010....

Heck maybe this signing will turn out like when the Bengals signed Cedric Benson in FA last year. He ripped up the AFCN this past season. MAYBE Stallworth can make SOME noise. I hope.

1. Mason 2. Stallworth 3. Washington 4. Clayton would be a pretty sexy WR line-up considering what we're used to. Clayton and Washington could switch places, or we could toss Washington or Clayton for someone else...either way, I'd be satisfied. If Mason doesn't come back we do need another answer though...if we come out with Stallworth as our #1 and Clayton or Washington as our #2 it's gonna be a long year.

Stalls was not signed as the #1 people....he is depth, a veteran addition and will be the #3 or #4 guy.

Interesting. This looks promising.

According to SI.com, Stallworth's 4.4 fourty time has become even more apparent through the eyes of the Ravens Staff....According to SI's Peter King, Stallworths 40 time is the fastest they've ever recorded.

And on a side note... Stallworth also had to run it on "sports grass".....which many MANY players dislike doing because it slows them down a little bit, thus adding 2 tenths of a second onto their time.

Now that we have the Team officials nodding in approval with his speed, all we need to do now is wait and see how he does in OTA's and Training Camp, heading into the regular season.

Damn the dude has been training like a beast. Speed isnt everything, but its something we've def been lacking in our offense for the longest time. Hopefully he still remembers how to run routes and catch lol.

If this guy can stay healthy and play like he did on the Eagles, Flacco will have a nice target to look for next year. Definitely think he'll be a good addition.
