OMG YES! Hopefully this means no more Clayton. I love this move. GJ OZZIE!

Actually not surprised at all Harbaugh signed off on this. Yes Donte was suspended but he did everything right in the case by not fleeing the scene and showing responsibility.

Welcome to the Ravens!

Why so excited? His numbers are pretty much identical to Claytons

Unlike Clayton, he gets YACs.

This is a perfectly good thing. The reason being other teams know who he is and what he is capable of doing. Now they have to write a game plan against it. We being at the upper hand have many options, he can be completely eliminated from our offense and we can still win the game...
God Bless America....

Terrible signing!! He was released by the Cleveland Browns!! The Browns. Aside from that, I thought this orginization drafted/signed "high character" individuals. With what he did in Miami to that man, who he killed while driving drunk, he ought to be in prison!! Period. If it was you or I, we would be sitting in a prison cell right now. This celebrity/athlete status is old, real old. After all, they are human beings just like any othe rperson on this earth, as was the man that Stallworth killed. Wake up Bisciotti/Ravens orginization....this was a bad signing and delivers not only a bad message to our youth, but also the continuing fan support also. Not too proud to be called a Ravens fan today!!

Did you feel that way about Ray when his incident happened? What he did was wrong, I admit that completely, but people make mistakes, he's not Pacman Jones. Everyone has done wrong in their life, some learn from their mistakes and some don't. For 900k I'll take a chance on him turning his life around before I support Clayton and this 3 catch per game and lack of separation performances. I wanted him to do time but he didn't so it's a mute point. All the man can do is be a decent person from this day forward and try to set a good example for himself.

His release was going to happen no matter who he played for before his incident happened. The guy did do some jail time and a whole lot more, including compensating the family for their loss. I know that this doesn't sit well with many people because how do you put a price on a life and all that but the family was willing to settle for that. That was their call and could have pressed forth with further criminal charges if they wanted to. Besides, it was also proven to not be totally Donte's fault. They had video of the guy walking into the street without even paying attention, as he was intoxicated as well. Please don't go crazy talking about how this hurts the fan-base and the youth when obviously you happen to be quite un-educated on the entire situation. Learn the facts and stop ranting about something you don't know much about!

This isn't the only WR the Ravens will sign in the off season. Expect one more.

Also, Unlike Clayton, Stallworth can stretch the field and open things up for the entire offense, not just the receivers.

As long as Donte' Stallworth stays healthy, I can't complain.

That doesn't mean I want to see Ozzie Newsome stop with the moves, though. I still want Malcom Floyd and a WR in the draft to supplement the receiving corps, even if any combination of Derrick Mason/Kelley Washington/Demetrius Williams/Mark Clayton were to return.

It's still early in the offseason; the job isn't finished. Not by any stretch.

Well this isn't going to help our violent reputation...
oh save it. Who cares. It was an accident, and he wasn't really at fault, the pedestrian was. I love the signing frees us up in the draft a bit.

Hopefully this means we'll get a chance to see what Clayton can do in the slot. Overall not too excited by the pick-up because we just don't know what we're getting right now.

Guys, just a quick reminder that we are here to discuss the signing and Donte' Stallworth's value to the team, not the morality of his manslaughter charge. His off-field issues have already been discussed at length, and while it would be naive to ignore those issues completely, it's not prudent to dwell on them when the signing has already happened and his actual impact on the team remains to be seen.

Let's keep it about football.

Another midget receiver... who gets injured a lot! So as of right now, we have a set of triplets on the Ravens. Clayton, Williams, and Stallworth. It's going to be hard telling them apart [s]on the field[/s] on the sideline. This is sure to give Flacco the target he was supposedly lacking before, as we've never had a short, speedy receiver with mediocre hands.

Just wondering... how do all those opposed to going after Brandon Marshall because of his "off the field problems" feel about this one? Yeeeeah, I thought so!

Wow we picked him up pretty cheap considering the huge deal he signed with Cleveland. Only for one year, also. This doesn't seem like Ozzie's "solution", and I wouldn't rule out another big WR signing. This will be interesting.

Exactly. If he can't preform in the slot, Axe him. We have all been waiting for Clayton to consistently produce. I know that I've been wanting Clayton to be moved the slot b/c he seems to be a better fit with the quick slants and so on.

Well, he's 6'0, and that's taller than Clayton and Mason, so I don't see how he's "another midget receiver."

Granted, he's no Marshall, Floyd/Jackson or Boldin...

stallworth: 7 years / 296rec / 4383yards / 14.8avg / 6.0yac / 84lng / 32td / 70-20+ / 13-40+ / 195-1st / $900,000.00

Clayton: 5 years / 234rec. / 3116yards / 13.3avg / 4.4yac / 87lng / 12td / 35-20+ / 15-40+ / 143-1st / $600,000.00 and change

stalworth may be slightly better he also had more time i hope he is here for depth and i wouldn't mind Clayton staying to battle him in training camp they seem pretty even to me so it would be a good fight. we need to go after Floyd or Bennett(sp?) or someone of that nature and draft this guy in the second or third

Size doesn't mean anything. Unlike Clayton and even Mason, Stallworth makes play after the catch.

And comparing Stallworth to Marshall isn't fair. Donte has had one incident his entire career. As damaging as it was, he handled it the right way and likely wants to get back on the field and perform.

As for Marshall, you'd run out of fingers trying to count the number of incidents he's had since coming into the league.

I really like that we signed him to a 1 year, $900,000 deal. It is perfect for a a player who is out to prove something. By giving him a short, very inexpensive deal, That usually gives a player momentum to play harder so they can earn a better contract.

Do you mean the same Drew Bennett the Ravens signed last year only to have him retire a day or two later?

As for Danario Alexander, he was productive at Mizzou but he really struggled getting off the jam, gaining separation and seemed slow overall at the Senior Bowl. We'll see how he performs at the Combine and his Pro Day.

The key stat is the difference in TDs... Stallworth has nearly 3 times as many TDs as Clayton.

P.S. Alexander looks really good (and fast) in that video, I wonder why he had such a rough Senior Bowl?

Stallworth isn't the player Antonio Bryant is but he is in almost the same situation. Bryant was signed by TB in '08 for the veteran minimum after he was reinstated after failing a drug test. Realizing it was likely his last shot at staying in the league, Bryant had the best season of his career.

I could honestly see Stallworth doing the same in 2010.

Chris Chambers is a decent player but it looks like KC will re-sign him.

Winning is everything to me... If we have to spend a little more to add dept I don't think it would be completely ruled out to do so..

I'm sorry, but you can't spray paint coal and tell me it's gold.

First off, I like Donte Stallworth. I have been a huge fan of his ever since he was tandemed with Joey Horn playing for the Saints. I wanted us to get him when he went to Philly and put up good numbers, I wanted him when he went to NE, and maybe before he went to the Browns. This isn't about his criminal past. He did something unforgivable, but afterwords he did everything right. He fully cooperated with the police and even turned himself in. He didn't blame the victim and took full responsibility which can be shown when he agreed to support the family of the late Mario Reyes. It's not his fault he was given a light sentence that falls on the prosecution and the courts. My disapproval is strictly football and strictly business.

Stallworth is not young, he's 29 (He'll be 30 November 10th) and doesn't have room for progression. So what you see is what you get and he's never been more than a good #2. He was only great when he was in NE and defenders paid more attention to Randy Moss and we don't have a Randy Moss. He's rarely broken 700 yards and hasn't consistently found his way into the endzone since his rookie year. Before he was suspended by the league for an entire season he was banged up in Cleveland where he missed 6 games. When he played he was barely noticed pulling in only 1 reception most of the time. His best day was 4 catches for 48 yards. To sum up we just picked up a guy who's been MIA for almost 2 years. I'm as thrilled as hearing we just re-signed L.J. Smith because right now Donte hasn't proved he's even going to make it out on the field. We need an Elite WR and a leftover from the free agent bucket won't cut it come gametime.

Dont get me wrong, im enjoying this news and I like it, however! I hope the Ravens hold a press conference for him. Because I wanna hear what he has to say, i want to feel that he is sorry for what he has done and is ready to start a new chapter, a new beginning.

Also looks like the Character notch is being turned down bit.

I think this is a good signing. We didn't go crazy with the contract, and we gave a guy the chance to come in a prove he deserves more. I believe he sounds genuinely remorseful, and I am glad FO signed him. He'll (hopefully) come in trying hard to prove himself.

Welcome to the Ravens!

I doubt it is. Stallworth isn't a repeat offender and the Ravens said they don't want to consider repeat offenders.
