Breaking News: Ravens Sign WR Donte' Stallworth.

175 posts in this topic

The Ravens made the first move in shoring up their receiving corps by signing veteran wideout Donte' Stallworth on Tuesday. Stallworth, 29, brings a solid track record to Baltimore, which is in need of talented targets to surround developing quarterback Joe Flacco. But he also brings some rust.

I know this is pipe dreams but imagine if we picked up 2 more and signed the following....

Brandon Marshall (trade 1st and 4th), Donte Stallworth, Antonio Cromartie (for Willis).

I think I'd faint.

Hopefully, he stays healthy. I like the move. Assuming Mason returns and Washington is re-signed, Stallworth would be decent #2 WR.

OMG YES! Hopefully this means no more Clayton. I love this move. GJ OZZIE!

Actually not surprised at all Harbaugh signed off on this. Yes Donte was suspended but he did everything right in the case by not fleeing the scene and showing responsibility.

Welcome to the Ravens!

And people wanna bash Marshall for being a headcase... :sarcasticclap:

Oh well. I can't stand Stallworth and don't even think he's a good receiver. He's gonna add some depth.

I swear to god, if we let Washington go and keep Clayton I'll lose it. LOSE IT.

Realistically:

Mason
Stallworth
Washington

Stallworth is a great pick up..but im with Ed_reed20 and am just hoping he stays healthy..we need to resign mason and washington (unless some team really wants him)..n then we still need to draft a wr..but definitely a good move..donte is gonna stretch the field

For the money that is involved in the deal this is a win for the Ravens. Ulimately, it will come down to production and execution on whether or not this turns out to be a good move to help our WR group. I think if Donte still has his speed and can stay healthy he could be the field stretcher that we have needed since Joe was drafted. This could turn to be a good move by our FO. Again, the contract is awesome and really hold no threat against us.

I mentioned this on the stallworth topic but didnt get any opinions because the mod shut it down to quick but this is what i said...putting the draft aside and any other free agent signings that may happen, and assuming kelly washington is resigned and mason returns...having kelly, mason and stallworth as the top three receivers, you have possession, consistency, and speed on the field. along with todd heap and rice in the back field...is this an improvement over what we had last year? what you guys think

I think Mason is going to retire again. Not sure if he will pull the favre part or not and come back though...

This is exactly in line with what Bisciotti said about willing to go after players that aren't multiple offenders.

I love the move because Stallworth will be hungry to make an impact and there's nothing like a contractually motivated player. Like I said before though, it all hinges on him staying healthy.

so now people get their wish Ozzie pulled the trigger on a questionable WR

This isn't the only WR the Ravens will sign in the off season. Expect one more.

I was trying to stay away from the boards for a while, just to get some perspective and not think about football... but I'm very pleased the front office is addressing the WR issue early and with decent talent.

I think Donte will have the right mindset coming in and he's going to a great place to revamp his life/image. Congratulations on the next step in the process Donte. Thank you FO.

I hope this isn't early signs of Mason hanging them up! Even though we all knew we were going to be pretty aggressive with the WR position, this seems to be a pretty quick move. I would hope that he sees this as an opportunity for greater success with a reciever that can strecth the field a little bit more than the ones he has worked with the past few years.

I'm more happy that they're giving the effort to bring in some help for Flacco. Although I hope this isn't the only WR signing this off season.

Welcome to Baltimore, Donte'!

If we can sign this guy, anyone is on the table...

Now we need to re-sign Mason and trade for Marshall or Boldin.

Imagine this: Boldin/Marshall, Stallworth and Mason as our Top 3, then we draft a Jordan Shipley or Dexter McCluster and/or a Jermaine Gresham. Watch out!

Good point. A player like Stallworth won't command double teams but he'll definitely take pressure off Mason. I really hope Derrick comes back.

I've been watching Stallworth's highlights on NFL.com and one thing he seems to possess that no Ravens WR(at least from what I've seen) has is the ability to get YACs. Even if he's lost some speed, he has pretty good strength and breaks tackles.

You would have to think that Donte would come back with something prove right? He now has a bad rep of being a drunk, killer, and god knows what else. He still has youth on his side and has seemed to go about his unfortunate situation the right way, so I feel that he will come out very strong and ready to make plays.

i agree with you. i don´t know if mason comes back but if he does he will have his last 1000yard season and maybe get his ring. as i said. that move doesn´t fix all our holes but it showed that the FO is willing to make the team better, no matter what it takes. i think we will see another new receiver (veteran) in baltimore and hopefully sign kelly. then we just have to use the 3 receiver sets because even if it is mason plus johnson(andre) you will not fool any defense....lol

never the less, this move makes me even more hungry for this offseason. i can feel it. there´s gonna be special things happen soon, bros!!!

My ideal (somewhat realistic) receiving corps for 2010...
Anquan Boldin
Derrick Mason
Kelly Washington
Donte' Stallworth
Eron Riley or draft prospect(Danario Alexander maybe)

With this crew lets see keyshawn call them bums

Boldin isn't worth it. We'd have to pay him MONEY and he's had more injuries than a Hospital ward. I'd pass on Boldin.

I think this was a great move! Washington, Stallworth..

If we can pickup Hernandez or Gresham and sign a receiver in the next round...

I see good things to come offensively..
