WOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO game on!!! :fireworks3: :229031_cheer:

AND 30 years ago tomorrow (Feb. 22, 1980) the US hockey team beat the Soviet juggernaut in the Olympic tourney semi-finals on their way to beating Finland and winning gold.

http://espn.go.com/classic/s/miracle_ice_1980.html

Yes, I do remember watching that game on TV and yes I remember bawling my eyes out. Seriously I think the Miracle on Ice planted the seed for my hockey fandom. :)
That game was not only one of the great sports moments of all time, It is one of the greatest moments in American History.

I wasn't born unitl '85, but as a kid I watched that game over and over. I remember shedding a few quiet tears in the movie theatre when Miracle came out as well. Al Michaels' calling the last 10 seconds of the game gets me every time. "Do you belive in miracles" wow..just wow.

Well I meant his self inflicted mistakes on the 2 and 3rd goals.

Funny thing is that Canada would have probably won if they had let my boy Mike Green play for them.

What a game. USA played much more inspired than Canada did. Canada missed a lot of close-goal shots, and credit for that has to be given to Ryan Miller.

Not only did Miller outplay Brodeur, Marty simply wasn't himself. Two foolish mistakes for agruably the best puckhandling goalie of all time. He was not calm and savvy tonight, he made some rookie mistakes being overaggressive and not letting the play come to him.

BLT, after watching the game you are right, Pronger cannot skate with the best in the world anymore and Bouwmeester would have been a good selection over him. I feel the reason he made it though was because his experience that he has piled up. He had a terrible game tonight, heck I'd take Brent Burns before Pronger after watching tonight.

So Green could have really fixed the mistakes that Brodeur has done tonight? That's ridiculous because the game wasn't even won by the defensive side, it came down to goaltending, plain and simple.

If Luongo would have started(he should have), this game wouldn't of been close.

Ya Green was left off because hes a liability in his own end, Miller won this game, he faced 45 shots and saved 42 of them. Not much you can do. That and Brodeur played like a stoned *** peewee kid.

Apollo says that he didn't medal at all in the race on Saturday night in which he got a bronze. Glad he is now broken the record set by Bonnie Blair!

Holy cow what a game last night!!! I am one happy hockey fan!

Yesterday was probably the best slate of Olympic hockey games I've seen in a while

Did any of you guys see the hit that Ovie put on Jagr yesterday afternoon? Poor Jaromir is going to have to see the highlight of Ovie knocking him on his *** for a looooooong time I have a feeling :lolpoof:

US beat Canada and gets the bye into the quarterfinals via goal differential. Man the spirits of the 1960 Squaw Valley team were very much alive last night. :D

Yup. Truly an epic day for Olympic hockey.

I almost laughed out loud when they made those commercials implying that the opening ceremony for this could compare to Beijing's opening ceremony.
I didn't see the opening ceremony except in the highlights.

But I do think it tremendously cool that the Suns let Steve Nash have an in-season vacation to go participate in the opening ceremonies.

I was merely stating that they could have used the best Offensive Blue liner in the NHL.

Marty definitely gave that game away though. He wouldnt stay in the crease! But a win is a win and Crosby crying is always a great thing.

Ovi laid Jagr to rest. XD
That was so liberating. I just remember 96-97 going to the Pens/Caps playoff games and JAGR ruining our chances by being unstoppable. Ovi finally got revenge for us Caps fans.

Canada fail.

Now that I watch that Canada fail over it isn't so bad now that I see the Plunger hit the ice haha. I could watch that Ovie hit over and over and over haha.

So, which side do you feel has the best chance in the medal round -when it comes up?

I welcome your choices.

Canada thoroughly dominated Russia tonight in every aspect of the game. Time will tell if they can continue to play as well though, US def has an easier road to gold.

I'll say, the Russians weren't even in the game from the puck drop. Like you said we outplayed them in every aspect of the game and I believe it was because of our effort tonight.

The new lines look really good, Staal and Iggy play a much closer style to Crosby as they like to cycle and have board control, whereas Nash has a more dangling open style that Getzlaf and Perry like to play. Don't have to say anything about the San Jose line as they have been good all tournament. If the fourth line can keep banging and contributing we have a great shot at winning this tourny, Toews and Morrow have played great.
