Arena Football League To Return

12 posts in this topic

The previously-defunct Arena Football League is set to return to action this season. After suspending football operations indefinitely following the 2008 season, the league returns from a one-season layoff thanks to a new long-term business model. The league is expected to begin an 18-game regular season as early as April, with a primetime game scheduled for broadcast on April 2nd, the start of the league's new broadcast deal with the NFL Network.

The Arena Football League (not to be confused with the old American Football League) was famously home to Kurt Warner prior to his remarkable emergence in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams. As the QB of the Iowa Barnstormers, Warner led the team to two Arena Bowl appearances and helped bring attention to the league following his success in the NFL.

I'm looking forward to the return of the AFL, as the game offered something different than the NFL product. It wasn't quite to the level that the NFL offers, but it was still fun to watch at times. Football is football, and if this is an entertaining offseason alternative to help me get to the NFL season, then I'm all for it. It'll certainly be better than the United Football League (UFL) was in its inaugural season.

I'll admit, some of this whoop-de-doo regarding the rebirth of arena football may seem to be on the small side, but I am willing to give it the chance.

I just hope that it will be able to succeed this time around.

I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but, based on what I've been seeing, Philadelphia may not be in this version of the league.

Philly may get back into the game within a few years, I suppose it depends on how successful the new circuit is.

I wish Baltimore had a team

Unless I am mistaken I thought I herd on 98ROCK today that Baltimore does have a team that plays at 1St Marrier.

I might be intrested in checking it out if that is the case. I would imagine it would cost a fraction of what a Ravens game costs.

That's not the Arena Football League, though; that's another indoor league entirely that's on a much smaller scale.
