The "What if?" Game

179 posts in this topic

Now that football season is over, and work is pretty boring today, I though I'd start a "what if game". I ask a what if question, you answer it, and put up your own. The answers or question doesn't have to be too specific, just something to move it along.

I'll start it off. What if Ozzie never drafted Ray Lewis?

Wow, I really don't want to even think about that! This Franchise would not be where it is today....

What if the Ravens traded for a WR last season?

Some of the games would have been more exciting.

What if we get Brandon Marshall?
[/quote]

Flacco will throw for more than 4000 yards next season.

What if McNair(R.I.P.) hadn't got hurt in the first game of the '07 season?

We would have won 7 or 8 games, the defense was ridiculously banged up and C-Mac was never the same after his 07 knee problems. He should have just got surgery and written off 07 like half the team did, him healthy in 08 and we may have gotten to the Super Bowl.

What if Suggs comes into the season at 100% and in great shape?

Then the secondary is going to be much better and we won't have to hear Mike Preston's little side jokes about Suggs anymore.

What if Jamal Lewis doesn't get hurt in 2001 training camp?

We might have won 1 more playoff game.

What if we never drafted Boller, and decided to go for Rodgers the next year?

oooooooooo good one! Besides the Boller pick, thats my 2nd biggest "what if" scenario for the Ravens.

What if we never let Dilfer go!

Rodgers wouldn't have been much better than Boller in my opinion. Rodgers has been exceptional since becoming the starter but holding the clipboard and watching had a lot to do with his development.

I'll pretend that your question is: "What if we never knocked Maddox out of that Pitt v. Ravens game in 2004?"

I think the steelers would have sucked like they did this last year.

What if Ray Rice never panned out?

LOL! Sorry, forgot to ask a question.

To answer your question, I think the Ravens would've missed the play-offs this year had Rice not come into training camp hungry for playing time.

What if the Ravens draft Jermiane Gresham this year?

Then Todd Heap's future with the Ravens is hazy.

What if Troy ends up getting traded and Flacco ends up getting hurt in the preseason?

Edreedfromtheu creates a thread.

What if we had Stover instead of Hauschka kicking for us this year? (If your answer isn't at least a 2-game improvement and better playoff positioning, hint, you're wrong)

OK...at least a 2 game improvement, probably a home playoff game and we still lose to Indy in the playoffs

What if Troy gets traded...what else will we talk about?

We'd talk about his Heisman. Actually, there'd be more time to discuss the WR situation.

What if Michael Oher was taken earlier in last year's draft and the Ravens had drafted Brandon Pettigrew?

That's a good question! Well I definitely wouldn't have liked The Blindside as much and our passing game might have been marginally better.

What if Ozzie had traded for B Marsh last year and we didn't get Oher or Webb?

We probably would've grabbed Webb in the second instead of Kruger.

I knew someone would do it. To answer the question as realistic as possible, if we had kept Rex, I don't think we would have Suggs. That big contract would have went to Bart Scott and Paul Kruger would have started in Suggs spot as a rookie. Bart was going to go where Rex went, and if Rex don't leave Baltimore, neither does Scott, Suggs would have been somewhere else this year. I also think we would have won 2-3 more games on defense alone and we might faced the Saints in the Super Bowl.

My turn, What If we had kept Trent Dilfer and gave him a long term contract, thus not needing to get Boller in 03, and not trading our 1st round pick of 04 to the Pats; who would we have selected in the first round of the 2004 draft? I believe this would have been a tough one has the Pats took Wilfork, would we have took Wilfork, or maybe Steven Jackson(Jamal left a few years later so we would have been set good with Jackson ready to take over), Bob Sanders was there, as he fell to the second.

I believe it might have been Wilfork in a Ravens uniform not a Patriots uniform but Steven Jackson would have had consideration from Ozzie.

I think we would win more games in 2003, and have a later pick in the '04 draft. Then I think we would have gone QB and maybe grabbed the best QB left, JP Losman, so that scares me.

Or the other option, we could have grabbed the BPA, Wilfork, but then I doubt in 2006 we would draft Ngata. Either way, I still feel we draft Clayton in 2005.

What if we never picked up Cam?

2 Things with this, Rex has never beaten Manning, only year he got close was when we had AD to cover Clark, and C-Mac could cover Wayne and we doubled Harrison over the top. Second if we kept Scott over Suggs anybody who knows anything would have immediately questioned whether Ozzie had lost it or not. We would have won maybe 1 more game on defense (Minny game), Rex couldnt beat NE with Welker either, and its pretty safe to say that the offense cost us both Bengals games, the defense didnt cost us in Pittsburgh either. The only game where Rex would have made a difference is Minny, and maybe GB but Im not so sure with GB that offense is nasty. although Suggs was not himself this year, teams still double teamed him at the line and still rushed the passer far more effective than Kruger did. Kruger and JJ on the outside, who the hell would cover TEs? Scott sure cant blitz like he did in 06, not even close, nobody on our team does because Pryce get held like a mother, and we dont have another rusher like AD was opposite Suggs. Rex wouldnt have gotten us past the Indy game either, and in all facets of defense Mattison put together a better game plan than Rex did.

Do you not remember that it came down to Bart or Suggs on who to keep, the salary cap wouldn't allow us to keep both along with Ray. Now I'm glad we let Bart walk don't get me wrong, I think Ellerbe found his way into Bart's spot next to Ray and I love it. Now for the subject of this thread, What if Jermaine Gresham would have came out last year, do you think Brandon Pettigrew would have fell to us at 23(assuming we still trade up)and been drafted instead of Oher?

I think Ozzie would still have taken Oher. Why he fell on draft day, I don't know but he was a better prospect than Pettigrew.

What if Garcon hadn't punched the ball away from Ed?

I believe we would have at least been able to get 1 or 2 plays in to where Cundiff would have tried to win the game for us and I think he would have nailed a game winner against the Colts. What if McNair would have stayed for the 2008 season, does Flacco start at all and would we have still made it to the Championship game?

McNair would have started. We would have still made the playoffs and done some damage. Flacco only plays if McNair got hurt.

What if we drafted Jonathan Stewart with the 8th pick in the 2008 draft and Chad Henne with the 55th pick?
