Andre Johnson

I read in a recent (past 6 months) magazine that somewhere in the agreement between the Texans and Johnson/Agent, it said they would release him or support a trade should they not make the playoffs for so many years, and I think this was the last year. Something about, he deserves to be on a team that can make the playoffs with him, or take him to the playoffs...given how much he's done for the team as far as production goes.

Seems far-fetched...yes, but if there's any truth to this it could have huge impact on the offseason, one of, if not the best WR's in the league hitting the open market in the uncapped year...

I heard about that, but it's not true; there's nothing in Andre Johnson's contract that stipulates that the Texans must agree to release or trade him if they fail to make the postseason. It was actually a plea on the part of Johnson's agent (who also happens to be his uncle) that Johnson deserves a ring and would release his inner diva if the team wouldn't give him a fair shot at a championship, either in Houston or elsewhere. Andre Johnson is happy in Houston and won't leave for financial reasons since he recently signed a huge extension, so the only way he'd want to leave is if they tell him he's not wanted anymore.

Andre Johnson will not be traded or released in the uncapped year.

However, if this were a possibility, it'd be more than intriguing and he's one of the few players I would endorse selling the farm just to acquire. I'm saying I'd be crazy enough to agree to trade the first three picks of the draft and give up a player just to get Andre Johnson, because he's simply that good even with the minimal time he's missed. The only other receiver currently worthy of that price tag is Larry Fitzgerald.

And besides, they got something brewing in Houston that they could make the playoffs next year (although we say that every year).

The Texans have finally gotten over the 0.500 hump, so in the next year or so, they should be out of that building/expansion mode and should be in active contention for the AFC South title regularly for the next few years.

I somewhat root for the Texans to succeed even though they could conceivably stand in the Ravens' way in the playoff hunt. Their fans have been insanely loyal despite having endured a rocky start and putting their faith in a brand-new organization with no history. It's similar to what the Ravens and the city of Baltimore experienced in 1996, though that was under different circumstances.

Just as I felt good about the Saints winning the Super Bowl in our stead, I'd feel good about the Texans winning it all if the Ravens couldn't. There's lots of talent on that team and I really can't find any reasons to personally hate them.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I'm hoping they address it in the draft. A "too-big of a name WR" we bring in, like Marshall, could warp our running identity, I want someone to develop into our offense, not someone we'll change our offense to accommodate.

LaFell or Tate IMO, LaFell is the bigger target, but Tate has deadly open field skill, and if we had Rice and Tate on the field together, could be a great combination.
