Potential 2010 Dynasty Team(s)

35 posts in this topic

In every decade, there are teams that become the staple of dominance within it. Now, some like to give just one team the dynasty label for a specific decade, but history actually shows that each decade can have multiple dynasty teams.

In 2000s: The Patriots, Steelers and Colts have to be those teams.
In 1990s: The Cowboys probably own that decade alone, but one could say the Broncos were a dynasty that decade too. Same for the Packers.

1980s: Cowboys, 49ers, and Redskins.
1970s: Steelers and Cowboys.

The attributes of any dynasty are the following: A Great or HOF caliber QB, RB, TE, WR and a dominant OL and decent to dominant defense. (I know. DUH! but those teams had HOF guys at each position)

So, who are the candidates for the 2010? Here are mine.

1. Packers: Aaron Rodgers, WRs and defense are in place. They need OL help though.
2. Ravens: Flacco, Rice, young dominant OL and the defense is in place even when Ray and Reed retires.
3. Steelers: Ben, Holmes, Heath and the defense is in place. Mendenhall? The jury is still out. Their OL needs some work.
4. Texans : Schaub, Owen Daniels (if they keep him. He's a UFA), Andre Johnson, Slaton and defense are in place. OL is nice.

to be a dynasty pretty sure it was 3 superbowls w/in one decade.... and 2 of them being back to back

don't quote me on that, but that was my impression of it

I'd have to say 49ers, Ravens, Vikings (if they get a QB), Saints, Chargers, Packers, Jets (pains me to say), Philly, Carolina if they get a good QB, and possibly Arizona

I respectfully disagree. Winning is what defines a dynasty. The Steelers and Patriots don't have what I'd call dominant offensive lines (at least not in every way), but both teams were good nonetheless. The Colts certainly didn't have a defense that measured up to Pittsburgh, yet they were generally considered to be a dynasty.

Ravens- Because I'm a Ravens fan.

Eagles- They have all of the pieces. As long as Kolb turns out to be as good as they think, they're golden.

Packers- They showed that they almost have what it takes. I expect for them to take the next step next season.

On the fringe:

Steelers- I might have picked them, but I'm not sure that I'm confident that Ben's head can make it through the majority of another decade.

Titans- Can VY keep it up?

Chargers

Not sure about the Chargers pick there. They're gonna have to let some guys go to be ready for the 2011 offseason. Some people like VJ and Merriman? might not be staying anymore.

I like the direction the Niners are going. Mike Singletary brought out his toughness and tenacity and shared it to the team. Frank Gore is the star, with Alex Smith as their possible future starter. They have a good defense led by a great player in Patrick Wills. With help, they could shine.

Not sure about some of the picks.
Minnesota - With Bret Favre gone they will not be back.
Chargers - As stated no more LT, VJ or Merimam and they play in an easy division, hell the browns would look like rock stars in the AFC West.
Steelers – May always be a factor but fell apart this year maybe down for a rebuild.
Arizona – Not without Kurt Warner and do not be surprised if Boldin goes some were else (maybe Baltimore)

My picks teams will be big next decade at least next year.
NY Jets – Rex Ryan is a competitor Sanchez is young and they are hungry
NO Saints – No one is going no where and they will be back
Baltimore – I am a Ravens fan go figure
Dallas – Romo is coming of age and has receivers and a running game!!
Colts – I hate to say it but they got a young WR core that is good and Payton Manning.
49ers – Mike Singletary at the helm with Frank Gore running and Smith throwing they will be making some noise.

Potential 2010 dynasty's are...

Eagles - They have a young fondation on offense, draft well on defense and are coached well.Only thing that will hold them back will be the development of Kolb early.

Steelers - They're a force to be reckoned with every decade, they'll win at least 1 SB in the next 10 years...

Ravens - Young offense, stiff defense, only a WR away from making the big game.

Patriots - As long as Bellichick is coaching they'll be considered a dynasty...

I'd say Saints-Drew Brees showed us he's a Top QB yesterday, and they can win any game

Ravens-Joe gets some weapons, and the young players on defense learned some hard lessons this year, and the adversity hardens us into a solid team

Jets-Dominating Defense and Running game. If Sanchez continues to grow, they make it

Colts-I may be shot on here for saying it...but Manning, Wayne, Collie...their offense is fine tuned. Very fast players on defense too.

Vikings if Favre returns, or if they get a good starting QB.

Green Bay-Scary defense. It reminds me of us in our prime. And we witnessed their offense first hand, we saw Rogers throw 500 yards against the Steelers, and the shootout with AZ.

It won't be AZ because Warner is gone.

Steelers only if we don't beat them. Whoever dominates AFC north next year will be a legitimate dynasty contender, but idk if the Steelers will rebound as well as us. If Polamalu sharpens their defense back up next year they may, but I think I smell a rebuilding season for them.

It won't be Texans. They're good, don't get me wrong. Very good. But not the best.

It wont be Chargers. They are too dependant on being hot, and when they lose momentum I don't think they are better than the rest.

49ers-Smith is finally devleoping into that QB that the 49ers need. Crabtree, Morgan, Gore, V.Davis are great weapons to have.

Ravens-im a ravens fan, duh

Saints- They will be back. I gauruntee it.

Packers- defense is looking good, finally have a good QB and thier reciving coorps is good, they just need a good O-line.

I know you didn't say LT

but

1) LT is old for a RB and was no where near the same type of player, so they'll get younger at that position
2) They won't lose both VJ and Merriman.... and my guess is they are going to cut ties with Merriman... however if we somehow got our hands on a guy like VJ I'd be streaking with joy

Its too soon for the Titans. Lots of talent, but its young and needs to develop.

are we talking about dynasties as in teams of this next decade?

Peyton will probably retire before 2015, so I think we seen the best of him during the 2000s.

I am not a believer in Mark Sanchez. He is a product of the NY hype machine.

The Steelers must protect Ben better or his reckless style will catch up with him.

I like the Ravens not just because I am a fan. We really have a strong young nucleus in place. We need a TE and this draft is deep at the position. Even if we don't get Gresham, there is Aaron Hernandez and Grondowski. Of course there is the WR issue. I like our defense, too.

Since this post was directly below mine, I'm going to guess that you were replying to me...

The Chargers aren't going to let both of those guys go, and as long as they are in that sorry division, they should continue to have numerous postseason appearances. I put them "on the fringe" because I think they will resemble the Eagles of the 2000 - always almost there.

I don't know about that, he's pretty durable. He might do a Brett Favre and just keep playing and playing and playing... I do think that his best years are probably behind him though, and thats why I think that the Titans might be a team to watch out for.

The Titans have what could be one of the best running backs of all time, they are known for their defense and I believe their D will bounce back. However, if VY turns out to be a flash in the pan, the Titans will probably resemble the Ravens of the 2000.

You know, I never believed him either until the playoffs. Then I had to stop and reconsider the matter. He's obviously in a great situation in New York with a good o-line, capable receiving corps, great running game, and defense. Add in the fact that NE has kind of been on a decline since 18-1 and the Jets could be competitors.

Speaking of the Jets...

For some reason, beating the Ravens is a sign of greatness. So if the Jets beat us next season (and I think they will) the media is probably going to crown them the next team of the decade no matter what.
They can't protect him from himself. Those concussions are going to catch up with him, and when they do that will give the Ravens the perfect opportunity to take over a fairly weak division.

My potential 2010 Dynasty teams are as such -

Ravens - true, Flacco looks ready to challenge the more established QBs, and the defense is always ready, always there.

Eagles - the development of Kolb will be the crucial factor, as well as the o-line. Defense looks good, as far as I can tell.

Texans - these guys are, in my estimation, the next big thing to come from the AFC South.

Saints - as it's been said earlier, these guys are all in place and will be back.

Jets - I have to like Rex Ryan carrying his father's ideals to a new era, and Sanchez may need some help on the o-line, but these cats are ready for anything.

49ers - as it's been said before, Singletary is the man with the plan, and I believe that he knows what he's doing. Also, Alex Smith looks ready th challenge anyone at QB.

Those are my picks, let's just see if it all works out.

Green Bay defense LOOKED good, as in the first two thirds of the season. Then, they gave up 500 yards to the Steelers and 51 points to the Cardinals (Saints only gave up 14). A potent passing attack puts them in their place, they don't at all remind me of our defense in its prime.

I disagree about the the Colts and Steelers being Dynasties. Dynasties are based off of championships. The Colts only won one championship therefore they were not a dynasty. The Steelers won two in ten years so I dont think that qualifies as a dynasty either. I dont think even two in 5 years qualifies. The only team I believe thats had a legit little mini dynasty was the Patriots as they won 3 out of 4. But they didnt win any in the second half.

Mark Sanchez is gonna have to show a lot more in order for him to be considered good. You don't throw 20 picks and only 12 TDs during the regular season without drawing some skepticism. He had a good playoff run (the Jets were lucky to be there at all, the Bengals had pretty much tanked by the last game), but we don't know whether or not he'll continue that next season.

Of course we weren't a dynasty, we had no offense! Green Bay clearly has that, but I see some glaring issues with their supposedly stellar defense. Someone said that the GB defense reminded them of us in our prime, and I said hell no!

Kind of early to be doing this.... but....

49ers - They're going to be a dominate force in the coming years
Ravens - Development of Flacco, Rice, OL and with the addition of a strong WR core they'll be a complete team (as long as the defense gets a refresh)
Steelers - I hate to admit it, but they have all the pieces to be a dominate force... just need to stay healthy and work on their secondary
Saints - This isn't a bandwagon pick whatsoever. They've been a relative success since the emergence of Brees, they just need to address their pass rush

The Packers, Texans, Steelers, and Saints Cowboys.

In the bubble: Falcons, Ravens, Eagles.

Not sure about our defense once Lewis and Reed leave.

Greenbay's defense fell apart during the latter half of the year. Before then though, they were pressuring the QB and using that pressure to turn the ball over. Kinda like what we did. They don't have shutdown corners like we did with McCalister and Rolle in their prime.
If they come out and play like they did for most of 2009 though, GreenBay's defense will highly compliment their powerful offense. They'll give the Saints a run for their money if that's the case.

Well I can see a few teams turning into Dynasties this decade. Here's who I think:

Saints: As one mentioned you have to have a Super Bowl victory to start even talking about being a Dynasty and they have it. Saints have so many young players and they are going to be a force to be reckon with net season and this decade. I don't think the worst to first in the NFC South will work anymore, as it seems the Saints will be atop the South for a long time.

Ravens: Harbaugh has this team so close to a SB that they can just reach out and grab it. We have a great QB in Joe, great RB in Rice, solid defense as always with great young players on defense ready to step up and become play makers when its their time. Just as soon as we get this receiving issue worked out this team is going to be great for many years.

Packers: This team has been young for quite a while, and they have Aaron Rodgers becoming a great QB with a young receiver in Greg Jennings and a great defense led by B.J Raji and Clay Matthews. They just need to tweak their defense a little more and they will be set.

Texans: I'm not sure about a Dynasty of winning 2 or more Super Bowls but I think they will at least get 1 Super Bowl. Certainly though they are building a team up that will be competitive for many years. They could take advantage of the Colts next year and possibly win the division if the Colts suffer through what the Patriots went through after they lost SB 42.

Now I am not 100 percent sold on the Vikings but keep in mind they made it to the playoffs last year as well with Jackson ( I think he was QB)... so I don't think it matters on Favre or not

No it was indeed Tavares Jackson
you sure, I thought there was a pretty big deal about how Gus F. and Kerry Collins both came up from the bench and were starting for their teams.... when Ferrote got injured in the bears game they put Jackson back in
