Matt Stover Chokes In Miami !

36 posts in this topic

Tonight Matt Stover missed a big kick for the colts and I'm glad. Now we can all have a good night sleep knowing that Stover did not kick the winning FG for the colts and the colts did lose the SB. Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints. Good night. :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

Stover is a heck of a kicker but just didn't have enough!

Yeah he is a good player but I am tired of hearing all of the Stover talk from 2009.

Thats what you get with a 42 year old kicker, that was a poor coaching decision by Caldwell first. I cant really call it choking, I dont think anybody thought Stover could hit it from that range.

Stover always gives a range to his coach, I wonder what the number was.

I almost fell out of my chair when Caldwell had him try from that far out. Does the man not watch tape? Stover hasn't hit it from that far for a few years. Bless his heart, he's 42.

Though I don't think it's fair to call it a choke. It wasn't like he should have made it.

His range is 42. In 2007 4 of my friends and I went to Miami for the Ravens vs Miami game. Stover missed a 44 yard FG that would have won the game but he missed and Miami went on to get it first and only win in 2007. Maybe that was in the back of his mind. :18_1_301:

Caldwell? Isn't that the statue on the sideline the Colts call a coach? :P
I couldn't believe it either. That's one of those decisions where you just scratch your head and wonder "What the hell was he thinking?"

Me and my dad were laugh our butts off when they put him out there to kick it. We knew well that Stover can't hit a 50 yarder.

Stover didn't choke. Everyone besides Caldwell knew he had no chance at making a 50 yarder. It can't be considered a choke if he can't even make one in practice.

That was just a horrible call by Caldwell.

Distance was there but wide left

He had to push it to get the distance, as any Ravens fan well remembers.

What would you call it then? He got lucky a bunch of times in the game, he went to the well too many times.

Definitely not a choke. I didn't even think he'd be able to make them from beyond 40 this year. Especially this late in the season. When you can't trust a guy to do kickoffs, do not send him in for a 50+ yarder in the superbowl, surely.

Matt didn't choke, Caldwell did. That was out of his "realistic" range, if anything the extra effort you know he put into trying to get "all of it" cost him the accuracy. Vineteri yes, Stover not for a few years now. Bad call coach, gotta know your players!

They lost by 14, that kick wouldn't have really done much.
[/quote]

At the time the kick would have been huge, N.O. wouldn't have been able to start at the 40 yard line. How can you say the kick " wouldn't have done much"?

You beat me to it. That kick was a big deal and the out come of the game could have been different if Stover had made that FG.

Stover didn't make a +50yarder since 2006 and he's 42 years old, I'm just surprised Jim Caldwell took the chance there.
