Billicks 4th Down Play

24 posts in this topic

idk why every1 seems to disagree with this play.....if we wouldve gone for it and not gotten the td then every1 would be calling for billicks head!! but he did the RIGHT thing, tied the game and got this team to overtime. Unfortunately stover missed (rare) but it happens this is the NFL. So if we had gotten the field goal in OT then every1 would be saying that it was the right call. So either way billick made the wrong decision. WHAT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO IN THAT POSITION!?!?!

i was rooting for the GAME, not the TIE

I wanted to go for it!! Where's the pride in having to go to overtime to beat the worst team in football???????

How much money did we give to McGahee? He can't get us 6 inches? Troy can't fall forward? If we didn't huddle up and went for a QB sneak I would NOT have needed to kill a handle of captain morgan with my friends only to wake up and hear the top story on Sports Center about how much we such!

I can see why Billick just went for the field goal but I can also see why the offense wanted to go for it. The Ravens season was over so why would it have hurt to go for the touchdown that close to the endzone. Everyone has been questioning Billicks play calling all year anyway so just go for it, win the game and get some respect back.

I think he did the smart thing. It was fourth down, we had a rookie QB who probably hasn't even practiced goal-line snaps yet, and Stover is (almost) always money.

It is what it is, I can't wait till post season. I think theres gonna be alot of changes. If Billick doesn't hand down his playcalling to someone else, then he needs to go. Well, I personally think Billick needs to go period. If he is with us next season though, please get a good Off.Cord to handle the calls.

did u see how the dolphins were able to get into our back field....they wouldve done the same if we went for it....at least with overtime we had a chance to win with only a field goal but we missed

I'm talking about 6 inches! I we couldn't get it then we deserved to lose. Kick it so we can pray we get the ball first in the coin toss? Why do we have to play for an extra 10 minutes to still lose in the end?

its all in the thought process they all must endure on the field while making those types of decisions...and either way they all have consquences whether they be good or bad...they all have after effects..its just sad to see that if we go for teh wrong one...teh decision and blame falls back on the coach....

I would have let Troy scramble for it personally.

Win or loss at that point...we had statistically lost.

For me, it would have been huge motivator had we smashed it in with Troy.

Had we not gotten it, well...we are used to using by now anyway.

I'll put it this way...I would have rather we lost trying to send a message with Troy than the way we did.

Theres a reason JO is a 12 time pro-bowler and that we drafted such a heralded fullback in LM. If all our talent couldnt get 6 inches then we deserved to lose. I would not have called for Billick's head had he gone for it because like someone else said, we play to win, not to tie. More often than not, a QB keeper aiming to get a foot or so succeeds. Its very rare for it not to.

Additionally, our CB's were getting TORCHED by Cleo Lemon and his "who the hell are they" receiving corps. Why give them the game when we could've taken it from them there.

Lastly, we had all the momentum.

ok but had we won nobody would be complaining.....it was 4th down!!! the game would be over if we dont get the first down they would stack the line like billick said

idk man we shouldve gone for it yes but we tied the game which was also a good thing. idk i just want to see troy smith in next weeks game!!!

Yes, but we tied a game and went into overtime with the worst team in the NFL.

Somehow I just felt highly disappointed going into OVERTIME with the worst team in the NFL. this even being as poor as we are this year.

Had Troy taken them down the field (he did) and then we punched it in (I honestly feel we could have), that would have sent a big $#*& you message to the Dolphins and the NFL. Perhaps we would have gotten some swagger back?

Had we not gotten it...at least we tried!

i think everyone (from an overall stand point on this season) has been dis-appointed with the way our team has performed....but i am willing to bet that next season we will in fact have a better team than we did this season...the players are developing nicely and Troy has looked Deadly sharp and poised.....and as his teammates in the huddle said about him..."he's Calm, and he's poised....doesnt get rattled about anything"...plus he has the arm strength and the skill needed to be a great player for us.

Well, lets be honest for a second. We have nowhere to go but up.

i completely understand all the frustration but some coaches can't seem to get past the adage " go for the win at home, go for the tie on the road " but i understand, it was a meaningless game against the worst team in the league...why not go for it?

each team in the NFL has a game-plan in which they follow for certain situations they may get into at different points in time....
