Union Leader Says Lockout In 2011 Is Very Likely!

As much as I love the NFL, if they go away for a year or more, the UFL may certainly take their players. They couldnt have picked a better time to come out. Wow, would that be mind blowing that all NFL players Join the UFL and all of a sudden the NFL is not longer the face of American football. I dont think it will happen, but its certainly possible now

I think the NFL would be shocked out of the madness if it ever came to that, but the money lust has gotten them this far, so who knows. I'm going to research that $340,000/player number... if that's per active roster player (53), per team (32), that's $576,640,000... holy moly.

That's why there needs to be transparency - who knows what the NFL makes from sales of fan items, etc.

I dunno, it's not the usual scenario of 'they're a year older, and they've got an extra year of football behind them'. A year off could work wonders for Ed's hip and neck issues, Kelly's knee. Pryce would probably be done and Mase because you just don't get the feeling he wants to play anymore. But I think a lockout would be the end of Ray or Ed.

it absolutely would.....Ray would be 37 at the start of the 2012 season - not gonna happen. Ed, who has been contemplating retirement for 2-3 years, would be 34 with the body of a 55 year old.

And that's precisely part of where the dispute is; the players' union wants the books to be completely opened while the NFL doesn't want too much publicly disclosed. It sounds stupid, but part of it may have to do with the suspected disparity in front office pay to some players' pay, namely the younger, no-name players who need every paycheck.

Junior Seau was playing last year at 41, and he's racked up even more collision than Ray. And Ed's body could certainly do with a year off. I don't know if he'd come back, but I think he's more likely to play the 2012 season after a break than he is the 2011 season without.

Now that someone here has brought up replacment players, I am reminded of the last time replacement players were used - in 1987, during the last NFL strike.

There were some good players to come from the strike games, but a lot of the remaining players were not that good.

Does anyone here want to see replacment players again? I don't know if I can handle that.
