The better question is, if Mark Carrier is heading to New York to be groomed to eventually take a defensive coordinator position, what happens to current Jets D-coordinator Mike Pettine?

Pettine is Rex's boy and all, but who says that Rex isn't grooming Carrier to replace Pettine in the future? Better yet, what if Carrier went to New York with the intent (or pretense) of specifically becoming the Jets defensive coordinator under Rex Ryan?

Could create an interesting situation, especially if Pettine isn't interested in taking a demotion back to LB coach in New York.

Seriously doubt the #1 defense in the league is going to see a coordinator change without another team poaching him as a head coach.

Everyone knows Rex is the DC of that team, if I was an organization I'd wait to see what Pettine can do on his own before I even hired him as my DC, no way I would give Pettine a HC job.

LOL! But to be fair, three players in the secondary went down with season-ending injuries, a certain safety we all know missed two key games and the pass-rush was inconsistent all year long.

I dont know man, the secondary's technique was just god aweful for the first 6 weeks of the year something directly related to Carrier. They got better yes, but they got better because Mattison switched up his schemes week to week understanding they cant cover jack 1 on 1 and gave them help. Which is also why we couldnt blitz much.

That's true. But honestly, shouldn't a player be trying to correct his technique before the coaches do? Especially when said player is constantly being beat and falling down in coverage?

Also true, but its the coaches job to fix that sometimes players dont always know what theyre doing wrong and how to fix it. They see it on video the week after, but coaches should have an idea already of how to alleviate the problem, thats why theyre there. If players knew how to be better on their own, coaches would just call plays and nothing else.
