I don't think JJ necessarily needs to be replaced yet, but depth for the future is always good.

The guy's just hitting his stride as an overall LB, and the reason why he hasn't been getting much pressure this past season is because he's been asked to drop back in coverage more. His job was never really to be a primary pass rusher, especially not in the same way that Suggs was supposed to be.

I'm not worried about JJ. It's obviously Suggs we'd be concerned about, but given how much better Suggs played as the season wore on, I'm not particularly sweating him neither. Suggs is fine, JJ is fine. Depth is always a must, however.

No way. J.J. was playing at a Pro Bowl level before hurting his shoulder. He isn't dominant but does whatever the coaches ask him to do and gives it his all. I see the team drafting players to push him in but unless a rookie seriously outplays him, J.J. should remain the starter.

JJ is 29 years old, so as Franchise said its time to start looking to find his replacement. A guy could learn alot from JJ, the way he came out of Alabama as a DT, then switching to DE, then cutting even more weight and going to OLB. He takes on the dirty jobs so that Ray can get tackles, and Suggs can get sacks. He never complains and although Im sure he wouldnt mind some national recognition hes quite content knowing the Ravens players and organization appreciate him.

It's amazing how he was basically re-signed a couple years back to fill Adalius Thomas' role, yet no one really noticed that he's had the same impact on this defense that AD had. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he's had fewer turnovers than AD, yet he's done all the dirty work and has done everything the coaches have asked of him. He's responsible for much of the defense's success yet has never gotten much credit for it outside of Baltimore.

He's probably destined to be an unsung hero much like Kelly Gregg.

I dont know if id go quite that far lol. AD was far more explosive off the edge than JJ is, but id give JJ the edge in run support. But your right he and Kelly Gregg will "perennially"(lol) go every year with people wanting to replace them to find better athletes, most people dont realize its difficult to find their die-hard attitude and that more often than not will beat the great athlete.

Lets not forget his commitment to Baltimore. Didnt he just receive a paycut at the beginning of the season? To still stay with a franchise and play at a high level and no less lets you know what type of player he is, and a player we should not release.

First McGahee, then Todd Heap, then Jared Gaither, then Leron McClain, and now Jarrett Johnson?? Why do we want to replace all these people? These players next to double trouble are the heart and soul of the team. Why do they need to go? Especially after JJ just had the best season of his career and was snubbed from the pro bowl. We're a really good team with fans looking to replace and rebuild. Makes no sense at all.

Whoa, where's this "we" you're speaking of?? ;)

That said, people come up with all these ideas of replacing players because they're anxious to see new big names on the team to get excited about. It's been awhile since a big name acquisition has joined the team, and it's understandable. But, after awhile, you learn to stop caring about big names once the team starts winning. That, or watching the Redskins fall flat on their face with their free agents helps too.

Hell no, are you out of your mind!!! I never seen a player sack a QB more times then JJ....
[/quote]
...ok, tell me you're exaggerating about having never seen a player get more sacks than JJ.

At the beginning of the year Jarrett Johnson was the only one getting pass rush and he is an excellent run stopper. I'll admit that i took him for granted before i saw him this year. He is a stud. The guy is only 29, and Ray is proving you can still be an effective defensive player through your 30's. I don't think we have to worry about replacing him for a little while.

By "we", I mean this fanbase as a whole. I don't call specific names out or single them out (usually). Replacing big names and adding new faces doesn't really lead to success all that often.

The best teams are the teams that have had the same faces and players for a while. The longer a team stays together, the more chemistry the team builds. Why do you think the Redskins suck? Jason Campbell has all these new coaches and O coordinators every year and can't lock in on any specific one. That team cannot stop changing it's identity.

Talent doesn't necessarily win games, team chemistry wins them. Demetrius Williams, for example, has the potential of putting up big numbers in this offense we have, but because he has NO chemistry at all with Flacco, he's a non-factor. Kinda like Roy Williams with Dallas last year. I mean Peyton Manning has had the same O coordinator and Center his entire career and look at how well he's been doing.

Teams that change their identity often are the teams that don't have success. Teams that work together for years and get to know each other are the ones that win Super Bowls and build dynasties.

well when 6 sacks is 2nd on your team thats not very good, but JJ's role is has more dimensions than focusing on pass rushing.

I have heard people on here that want to get rid of everyone except Ray, Ngata, Rice and Mason outisde of that they want to completely dismantle a team that has gone to the Divisional round of the playoffs in 3 of 4 seasons
