Bazooka Joe

Wilfork Or Peppers

13 posts in this topic

Through clarification, according to 105.7 FM, of the Top 8 Rule for signing UFAs, we are allowed to sign one contract that is over 5.5 Million per annum. Since this is the case, I suggest we use that money on a passrusher, because none of the UFA WRs are worth that kind of money.

So, would you sign a guy like Julius Peppers to play DE? I am not sure if Wilfork is a passrush threat up the middle or a pure runstopper, but he would be another that I would sign and pair with Ngata. We'd only be able to sign one of those guys. Which would you sign? Is there another passrusher that you would consider? Osi Umenyora, though I don't think he is a UFA?

Just to ask, who are the UFA WRs?

To answer your question, I wouldn't sign either of them. I already laid out the reasons not to sign Peppers in another topic and Wilfork would cost a ton of money too. The Ravens haven't even locked up Ngata yet so to sign Wilfork(which would likely be a long-term deal) wouldn't make sense.

The same money you would use to bring in Peppers or Wilfork could be used to sign at least half a draft class.

The Ravens have rarely been a team to make a splash in FA. I could see them going after a pass rusher in FA(like they did Price back in '06) but only at the right price.

Wilfork is the 2nd best 3-4 NT in the entire league behind Shaun Rodgers though. I agree with what your saying, but a 3-4 NT is far more important than the 3-4 DE that Ngata is playing.

Good points.

Without looking it up, the UFA WRs are:

Terrell Owens

Antonio Bryant

Kevin Walter

Here are the rest:

There is always a possibility that Roy Williams is cut and we could sign him without restraint. And I would sign Roy Williams if he were cut.

Ben Watson is an intriguing guy to consider at TE.

Bryant is the the guy I want the most but I highly doubt the Ravens will lose enough FAs to sign a guy like Bryant.

I would've loved to have seen Jason Avant in a Ravens uniform too but the Eagles know how valuable he is.

People may scoff but guys like Lance Moore and Josh Reed would be decent options as slot receivers.

Watson is a possibility but I see some teams throwing a lot of money at him.

I'd be interested in a TE like David Thomas.

This is a STUPID post. Im not even gonna explain why. But i recommend you check our roster and think about where they would fill in. Anyone who watches the ravens will tell you. :34853_brickwall: :34853_brickwall: Im freaking out man!!!! Again sorry. But coming back to your question No, the ravens will NOT sign any of those guys.

Assuming he is cut, which may not happen because of the picks Jerry Jones spent to get him, yes I would sign Roy Williams if he is cut.

I just believe that Roy is not being utilized correctly in Dallas. Re-sign Mason and give me a guy like Roy Williams and then draft a couple of receivers and that would make for a nice corp for Flacco.

He gets his share of balls thrown his way, he just can't catch and puts forth very little effort. I would be pissed if we signed Roy Williams as "the solution!". Makes no sense and I'm pretty sure its not even being discussed by Ravens FO.

Also, don't count on the FO trading/signing a big name WR AND drafting a couple receivers like you mentioned. We have more than one need this offseason.

So, let's shift the discussion here. We can sign one UFA player at above 5.5 Million. Who would you sign?

I still say Julius Peppers. Ben Watson would be my other choice though he wouldn't cost that much.

Well if you can't catch and can't get open that's not being under utilized, that's been unproductive. He would atleast be a good possession receiver if he could catch. Dallas can keep him we don't need him. The money could be spent more wisely.
