24 posts in this topic

I have never been a Frank basher but everytime on on the site someone has a post about how bad of a corner he is.... lets be honest and giv him some praise because even though he had a terrible season he played terrific in the playoffs and showed he can be a good corner when he chooses too... I still believe that Webb and Fox should start but this guy isnt a bad 4th corner to have... what do yall think?

His style of play would be more suited in the early 2000s and earlier, but now in the day of age of flag football he get's penalized a lot. I'm not saying he's an elite corner either, but I really don't mind him playing nickel, HELL, I even like that idea.
I'm not a fan, and I'm far from being a basher. I like him even though he gets flagged a lot.

thats very true... football has became very soft as of late .... hes always in good position but when the ball comes its like he breaks down on fundamentals... with some work he will be a good nickel maybe even ok at safety?

I like the idea of him at nickle or dime because he is very aggresive which is needed for routes up the middle. I mean I like the idea better than keeping Corey Ivy....what were you thinking Oz?

I never thought I'd say this but I actually want him back. As maddening as his PI penalties are, the guy just keeps fighting and it doesn't appear his confidence ever takes a hit. Plus, he provides really good depth.

Cary Williams is another guy I want back too. Hopefully, he makes the team next year.

Walker reminds me of someone else we used to have...C-Mac! lol
Toward the end of his career, C-Mac played the same way. At least with Walker we have a bit of youth and better health....I guess. :th_happypills:

Look at it this way, he has ALOT of experience in Playoff games and everyone is claiming how bad he is but we went to the AFC championship game last year with him as a CB, He just needs to work on his coverage, I think hes a great tackler and can wrap some guys up. He just needs to learn to cover better and keep his hands off everyone. He has potential in my opinion. and he adds depth to the Secondary. Which is never a bad thing. As short as we are on decent CBs at the moment it might be best to keep him

Your not talking about Frank "PI" Walker are you???

Seriously, the last few games I was impressed with Frank...he's ok for a back-up corner who has playoff game experience.

Sorry, I can't jump on board. If he would play the ball he would be ok. Yeah yeah, he played well in the playoffs. It doesn't fix a whole season of garbage play. The guy is just not that good. I would not be opposed to him as a nickel maybe. But, I just don't have faith that if he sucks there, the team will replace him.

How does this surprise anyone he did it last year to. Pretty much he should be on the PS until the playoffs then activated. Plus he shouldn't be covering number 1 receivers, that's why we pay Foxworth.

I like the idea of Frank Walker at nickelback, though to be fair, Chris Carr also stepped up his play big-time as well; I like the idea of rotating those two. With Webb/Foxworth/Washington rotated at the 1 & 2 spot.

Point is, the more talent at that position, the better.

That said, it's interesting how, as much as we've hated Walker for all of his penalties, he's only been straight-up beaten on a route maybe less than a handful of times this season. That's as opposed to all the plays he gave up last season before his playoff turnaround. Again, as many people have pointed out, if this were the earlier NFL, Frank Walker would be a great CB; but because the game is now geared towards offense once again, Walker's physical style hurts him more than helps.

Frank Walker improved throughout the course of the year and was thrown to the fire so to speak, having to step up and cover #1's for most of his time on the field; no easy task for a guy more comfortable in the slot or on a #2/3 WR.

Frank's style of play really isnt to the inside though, hes basically a 4th corner, who plays on the outside against receivers. He plays admirably in the playoffs for some unknown reason, but Chris Carr is a better option inside. He proved that the last 5 weeks. Having said that, it is weird however when week 16 rolls around that I actually dont trip balls that Walker is starting opposite whomever, I love him for depth, but really dont want to see him on the field on a regular week basis unless its the playoffs.

You know its could be worse, For example we could have Pacman Jones instead of Walker. Walker isnt "great" but hes "fairly average" I'd take walker over someone like Pacman Jones anyday.

HOW did he play good in the playoffs? Okay... he had a nice hit on Randy Moss(who he wasn't even covering). The Patriots had two receivers in the same spot, and Brady forced the throw. I'm glad Walker just went for the knockout hit instead of trying to pick the ball off(Landry ended up intercepting it), but I can't say because of that single play that Walker has improved his play.

The good news is that a lot of corners are impressing scouts at the Senior Bowl this week. Brandon Ghee(Wake Forest), Kyle Wilson(Boise St.), etc. Wilson can return kicks, too.

Hopefully the Ravens can trade their 1st round pick for Brandon Marshall, and still pick up a few corners in the 2nd and 3rd rounds from what looks like it going to be a fairly deep draft as far as defensive backs go.

While I congratulate Frank on a solid post-season, I do not want to see him wearing purple and black next year. This year, the entire secondary struggled with pass interference. Getting rid of the biggest culprit would undoubtedly be a good thing. Realistically, I think he should be no more than a fifth corner somewhere. He doesn't really play special teams either, which really hurts his stock.

Walker's hit was actually on Benjamin Watson. I wish it had been on Moss. And it wasn't just the hit Walker had that was a positive during the play-offs. He played very good coverage during that game and was even better against the Colts. Pierre Garcon, who a week later looked like an All-Pro against the Jets, was shut down by Frank.

I agree about the CB position having quality depth this year. The guys at the Senior Bowl look like really good players. The guy I like is Devin McCourty of Rutgers. Top corner, gunner on special teams, punt-blocking expert and kick returner. Great player to have on a team.

To be fair to Frank, I doubt he was expecting to be in a starting position. With Fabe and Fox, and then Webb and Carr, neither him or the coaches were planning on losing so much depth at the position.

He has taken a hell of a lot of stick from the fans. Sometimes deservedly so. But he sticks at it, which I have to admire. His style of play suits a 4th DB, maybe a Nickel at best.

I wouldn't be so against him coming back. I just hope he doesn't start at all next year!

I disagree; because Frank Walker might have been a decent backup twenty years ago, he is elite now. It's basic logic, OK?

Seriously, screw this thread, Frank Walker needs to be released, he is not a good asset to our team at all; playing decently in a blowout win and a blowout loss doesn't negate two entire seasons of work put in by Walker.
