That sounds right up Matty's alley.

Mattison has a conservative play calling approach, I wouldnt say he preaches a conservative mentality to his players though.

Finally someone who agrees with me!!!! Everyone thinks the O-Line is great because of cam cameron...no Its mostly Matsko
Matsko might be our best assistant coach and that says a lot because we have many great coaches!

I like the pick-up. Though Belichick was undoubtedly the architect of the defense (and the whole team) in New England, Pees' defensive units had the four best years of any Patriots defensive squad in the past decade, with only the two more recent Super Bowl-winning squads coming close. Pees was the Pats' defensive coordinator from 2006 through this past season, and it's hard to say whether some of their success on the side of the ball didn't have anything to do with Pees somewhat.

For Pees to turn down a coordinator job in Denver (with a defense that played well this past season) to take a job as an assistant in Baltimore, that not only speaks to the higher aspirations he has (working as an assistant in Baltimore usually results in better coaching jobs elsewhere), but a desire to coach a very moldable group of young 'backers.

I'm excited to see what he can do with Dannell Ellerbe as well as Tavares Gooden and Jameel McClain.

Well, I'm not sure who's gonna coach the linebackers, him or Ray Lewis? But it's very interesting he turned down D-Coordinator job at NE and DEN, wow. He must be thinking there is a better chance to get a Superbowl with Ravens!

I like Matsko but our O-line was clearly not as good this year as last year. I don't know if it was playcalling or what but Joe was getting killed back there at times this year. Odd since Oher should have made them even better. The good news is they are young so they will only get better and Matsko will stick around to see them through it most likely.

May be off topic but what offensive coaches might be in line to leave?
We had 4x Pro Bowler Willie Anderson, 4 year veteran Jason Brown, and a healthy Mashal Yanda (who was on Pro-Bowl watch before he got injured). This year we had 3 new starters on the offensive line 4 if you count Oniel Cousins starting 3 games in Gaither's absence. Michael Oher went from a 23rd selection to an unanimous #1 overall selection according to ESPN, NFL Network, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, FOX Sports, etc.

We went from 33 sacks (2nd best in franchise history) to 36, but we went from averaging 4.0 yards per carry to 4.7 yards per carry. Our pass blocking needs some work but that comes with time and players being used to each other's habits. However we might have been the best run blocking offensive line in the NFL hence the 1st play in the playoffs was a Ray Rice 83 yard TD run without being touched by a single defender.

well were about to replace our QB coach... we should get a new WR coach and if we dont have one create the position
I agree! With WR Coach Jim Hostler I have not seen progression but instead regression from his WR corps. Clayton was a #1 draft pick with what appeared to be all the physical talent in the world along with Demetrius Williams. DW barely saw the field. Harper was activated from the PS but never used. Clayton is supposed to be taking reps from Mason but instead he just had a worse season than his rookie year! Ray Rice became our #1 WR and led in receptions. We need better from our WRs and we're definitely not getting it.

Calm down.

That's all fine and well, but all the same, I'm still surprised that a defensive coach is being replaced before an offensive coach. The offense is clearly the weaker unit so I expected more changes to come from than side.

For what it's worth, NFL.com has our offensive line rated 20th in the league.

I distinctly remember you saying "I thought the offensive lineman's coach would be the first one to be replaced."

Our O-line and running backs are our biggest strength on offense. Get a new WR coach and QB coach, but I am sad to see Hue leave because he was a great mentor for Joe.

Agreed. WR Coach Jim Hostler, who? To this point, I thought we didn't have WR's coach. That explains why nobody can catch the ball, except Mason. If change something, change it here.

The QB coach thing is a little different. Hue wants to move on to bigger and better things (theoretically). This sounds like the current coach is being let go of.

I see an offensive line that has to have it's hand held every step of the way, but maybe that's just me...

What is so attractive about what NE's linebackers have done? I'd like to think that our lbs were already better.

Right now we have a large crop of young LBs that might even grow larger with this year's draft coming up. Vic Fangio was a special assistant hired by Brian Billick in 2006 and might not have progressed them as well as they would have liked. He also had an attitude and personality more like Billick than like Harbaugh and Mattison. Another big reason might be because I recently learned Fangio was one of the lead voices in the booth on replay challenges.

I was wondering who was in charge of not challenging all those bad calls!

Ok I get your points. I wasn't trying to bash the o-line just making an observation. They are obviously young and will get better and Matsko will be a huge part of that. Trust me I love Oher and am well aware of how great he played and what was said about him. They were great at run blocking this season, just need to work on pass blocking a bit.

Lol, yeah the challenges certainly didn't help his case. I think BR.com also said that he mostly worked with the inside linebackers. He may have been a reason for the linebacker carousel.
