Even though there's no loyalty in business, Reed is one of those rare professionals who would genuinely remain loyal to his team.

This Baltimore Sun article sheds a little light on the type of character that Ed Reed has. Regardless of his decision, I will forever appreciate having had the privilege of watching him play. Great player, and seems to be an even better person.

Yeah... no way Reed would end up on the Jets... or any other team really. Reed is a class act and loyal to Baltimore. I love how apparently New York Jet fans think just because Rex is their coach now, they can land any Raven player they want now. Let me guess, Ray's going to New York as well, by some silly Jet fanboy transaction. If Rex weren't on the Jets, you wouldn't have heard your friends even mention Reed.

By that logic though, since Cam coached Vincent Jackson over in San Diego and that he's a Free Agent now, we should some how get him, right? If only it weren't for that silly CBA restrictions on FA signings since we got so far in the playoffs.

Not only that hes still under contract, we'd have to trade him to Rex. So if Rex wants to send Revis and Kris Jenkins and David Harris and a 1st then go nuts Jets fans.

But if Reed retires and we place him on the retired list, then Reed becomes free from his contract and he could sign with another team.

I wouldn't laugh too hard, but it could very well happen.

The positive is that if Reed retires, then we are free to sign a UFA.

We wont put Reed on the retired list right away, we'd have to completely moronic to do that.

There's ways of us protecting this from happening.

Most NFL contracts have exclusive retirement rights. Meaning if the player retires and he place him on the retirement list and the player decides to come out of retirement we have the option of retaining him on our roster, almost like a RFA. We can match any offered deal or receive compensation.

It won't happen.

Did some research on the matter and found out the same. You are correct.
