Just wanted everyones input on the coaching staff and the direction our team is heading.
I didn't think Harbs was as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Afterall it was just his 2nd year as a head coach. Still led our team to the playoffs in back to back years. And he got the team regrouped after 3 straight losses.

Mattison deserves a lot of credit for the turnaround the D had after the bye. By the end of the season the defense was playing really well...even with Frank "PI" Walker and Chris Carr in the secondary.

Cam had his moments but overall I was not impressed with the playcalling this year especially in Indy. Obviously Joe feels the same way.

Harbaugh - B for results. 3 playoff wins in 2 years. Better than Billick did after 2001. I hope he learns how to manage the game clock though.

Mattison - A. #3 Defense says it all.

Cam Cameron - C. The offensive improved but it still stalled when it mattered. Without Ray Rice we wouldn't been been able to do anything on offense this year.

I had to average my grades out. Cam started the season with an A, but dropped as the season went on. Matty was a solid F at first, but really stepped it up, or the defense started buying into the scheme. As for Harb's, his unwilling to play rookies early, game situation skills and clock management never improved and I think was our downfall.

I agree all this harbs hate around the site is just stupid and its people who don't know what their talking about...He has done a tremendous job in Baltimore so far, yeah hes made some mistakes but what coach doesn't even less what person doesn't...We got the the playoffs 2 straight times and would be in the AFC champ. game right now if it wasnt for a few mistakes we made in the season...This team is going to be a contender for a few years with a little work.. and i believe harbs is going to be a big part of that

WOW playoffs two straight years....give that man a key to the city then. You say people that hate harbs doesnt know football, but if you knew football you would see its not a coincidence we went to the afc championship game and the jets went this year. Not saying harbs is a terrible coach, its just hes learning on the fly and with the age of our defense thats really not acceptable.

Not to be a stickler here, but the outcome would have been worse with Rex's defense against the Colts in the Division game if he was our HC....and Rex has a far more talented secondary.

I gave Harbs a B, the fact of the matter is that he's taken us well into the playoffs in his first two years and that's as good as we could have asked for if not better. Silly timeouts and questionable decisions regarding challenges prevent him from getting an A.

Mattinson I gave a C. He hasn't improved the defense, it's essentially where it was, it just does things in a different way. If anything his more rigid scheme is a regression. We got gashed by good offenses with a few exceptions.

Cam I gave a C. He has little more to work with than Ray Rice + Flacco-to-Mason and that's what we saw. And we saw a lot of it. Seemed to dumb down the playbook even though Flacco's a year more experienced. Underutilized Kelley Washington and perhaps Le'Ron McClain.

Eh, I attribute that more to the fact that they didn't have to face Indy until their 3rd game, while we had them for our 2nd. So, basically, I'd call it even. Because I'm a homer.

:borg_assimilation_faces:

but then, I'm going to give us extra credit for beating the Patriots - because it made me soooo happy.

Its rediculous that people think Mattison is doing a better job than Cam Cameron. If we got back billick's offense, replaced rex ryan's defense with mattison's defense, we would be competing with the browns for last place.

Harb is a B, Electing to give the ball to P Manning and the Colts first, after winning the toss at home put the Ravens in a hole immediately and helped tire an already aging defense early. Not going for it on 4th down against Cincy while trailing with under 6 minutes on the clock. Clock management skills. Not keeping Matt Stover and Jim Lenard. Otherwise very good!

Mattison A-, Bad early and took too long to adapt. But the difference was dramatic in the end.

Cam C-. Seems indecisive at times! To quick to abandon a run game after one or two stops. Developed a predictable offense. Under used team players and talent, leaving too much team ability on the bench and out of the game. Timing of play calling. Nearly ruined Flacco’s and Rice’s development by often over use (47 pass attempts against NE) leading to inaccuracy. Too many consecutive runs and throws for Rice leading to fumbles enhanced by fatigue.

Look at the talent Rex had in his 3 years with the Ravens defense, and look at the talent Mattison is working with now. You think Rex could pull out a top 5 defense with Chris Carr and Frank Walker playing the last 6 games? Rex is a great DC but come one, he would have left Carr and Walker by themselves in coverage in order to blitz 3 LBs. At least Mattison knows that Carr and Walker need help 360 degrees around them and adjusted accordingly.

Stover and Leonhard leaving wasn't completely John's call. They obviously made a mistake in letting Stover go, but keeping would have meant keeping two roster spots because of Stover's lack of power on kick- offs.

And keeping Leonhard wouldn't have made sense because Landry was being brought back and Ed already has a big contract.

And how did overuse nealry ruin the devlopment of Joe and Rice? Joe was a few plays from winning the first NE game and Rice's fumbles late in the year were well placed hits/strips. From the way he ran against the Colts, he didn't wear down much at all.

Rex had to start David Pittman and Ronnie Prude during his time here. And even then we had a respectable D. So yes I think he could.

We could have had Koch learn to kick off. We saw this coming from the last off season. That's what Indy did with their punter to accommodate for Stover's leg on Kickoffs.

Agreed 99%
Harb would get B-

Matty started slow, finished strong C

Cam started strong, finish slow C
I would of hope he would improve his playcalling against Indy, we played them twice, and 2nd time around was worse than 1st, go figure. How you gonna beat Colts if you only score 3 points?

Other arguments aside, now we're arguing that Mattison is better that Rex Ryan... WOW. I guess im bound to come across a couple fanboys on a ravens board as opposed to a football board.

That's much easier said than done. And who knows whether the coaches didn't try Koch at kick-offs in practice.

Indy is lucky to have a guy like McAfee. Few players can be both effective as punter and a kicker.

lol seriously? You know when those two were starting for Cmac and Rolle our defense was atrocious. We were fine by the end of the year and those two came back (like in the pats game) but we were getting torched with prude and pittman starting.

First year as defensive coordinator and it ends up as the 3rd overall defense...yet people are still moaning? Because it's sooooo easy to jump into a promotion and be as successful as the predecessor. And they say the newer fans are spoiled...

Fact of the matter is, Mattison came around at exactly the right time, in the playoffs. To hold Manning to 20 points is a Godsend, as I gather most of us remember the 30 point destructions he laid on us in past seasons with our "far superior" defense.

2008 - 31-3 Colts
2007 - 44-20 Colts
2005 - 24-7 Colts

In fact, this defense performed almost as well as the 2006 defense did against Peyton. 15-6 Colts.

The offense lost us the Colts game, even the Jets did more damage than we did. Take it on the nose Cam, you're not as good as you think.

B - A - C for me.

For Harbs, B he just doesn't seem to get the team motivated enough until it really matters.
For Matty, B our defense slacked towards the middle of the season, but picked it back up later on, with a huge improvement on our CB's.
For Cam, C he just didn't seem to make the right calls at the right time, some of our close games could have easily been won if it wasn't for the play calling.
