Now That The Season Is Over..do You Believe Keyshawn's Bums?

48 posts in this topic

I mean Keyshawn was right though. And its the same with Tampa Bay, Miami, San Fran (until Crabtree) and other teams. We dont have any pro bowl worthy wide outs. Yeah Mason is good but he isnt pro bowl good like Fitz, Boldin, Calvin, Rice or Miles. But thats fine. We have a game plan and we execute it.

We just need to open up a better passing games using our TE's cuz then play action would be very effective making the defense guess whether the TE is gonna block or catch on a particular play.

Now, ignoring all other things... I could agree with Keyshawn. Mason had the chance to prove him wrong, but in one of the biggest games for the Ravens... he dropped a wide open touchdown pass against the Steelers. After what they did last year, sweeping them would have been huge for this team going forward.

BUT, I can't agree with him for a few reasons:

1. The NFL officials

2. Special Teams

If the officials didn't cheat the Ravens in a few games this season, and if the special teams all around(especially kicking, both field goals and kick-offs) was even mediocre... then the Ravens would have won 2-3 more games, putting them in a position to NOT pay the Colts in the playoffs.

And if the Ravens didn't run into the Colts, I feel they could have gone all the way. They just refuse to run the ball against Indianapolis. They would have ran the ball more even if they played the Jets defense, which makes no sense... but it's true.

So yeah, far too much blame can be spread elsewhere to call Mason, Heap, and Washington bums. They did make the playoffs two years in a row, and we got off to that 3-0 start with a lot of down-field passing.

Let Clayton walk. We will be fine with Kelley, Derrick and some 3rd round pick. Remember our strength is our running game hence the back to back to back ravens pro bowl running backs.

07 McGahee
08 McClain (went in as fullback but he was our running back)
09 Rice

I get that you guys love Flacco and you love the deep ball but let's stick to what we have already. We dont need a Boldin or Marshall (who both had injuries this year like they had LAST year).

Look at other teams, you cant have a GREAT running game and a GREAT passing game. That being said we could use some new recievers, no one big or flashy but someone that can step in for what WE need in this offense.

the saints have a great running game and passing game. hell, even the steelers have more offensive balance than the ravens. having both is possible and it helps win championships....see the early-mid 90's cowboys.

The saints have no name recievers and no name running backs. The difference is their offense is wide open so everyone gets an opportunity. And Brees is light years ahead of Flacco. He is a phenomenal quarterback.

No, I wouldn't go so far as to say Keyshawn was right -- because that wasn't necessarily what lost us that game against the Colts. It was an overall team loss. Heck, to make it to the playoffs again with this same receiving corps was a victory unto itself.

But still a curse cause now since we made it so far with so little we are left with little. #25 pick and a dream!

The pick doesn't concern me. The Ravens have an excellent history with their late first rounders: Ray Lewis, Todd Heap, Mike Oher, and Ed Reed are good examples.

The CBA thing could be an issue since it will affect what we can do about our "bums."

I don't think the Final 8 Rule prohibits trades, but I could be wrong... do we get compensation for Scott, Leonhard and Brown this year or did we already get it?
[/quote]
We didn't get any compensation for them last year, and I don't think we can receive any for them this year. The players that we signed offset the ones we lost or something to that effect...

If we let players walk (releasing does not count) this season, we may be eligible, but it depends on how valuable the player is.

Hypothetically, if we let McGahee walk (if it were possible, which it's not) we might be able to get a pick because he had a productive season with 14 tds, but if we let D. Will walk, we probably wouldn't because not many people would call him a valuable player.

Why should we do that? Why should we be complacent? Status quo is part of why we went from 11-5 to 9-7. "We got where were with these guys..."

It was glaringly obvious that we needed to get a playmaking receiver and it would be foolish to continue to ignore it.

I'm not crazy about the notion that because other teams can't do something, we shouldn't either.

The Saints and Cowboys both have top ten rushing and passing offenses; in fact, one of the Saints running backs has a higher Ypc than Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson. The Patriots and Cowboys have some of the most efficient passing offenses and are also above average rushing teams with the twelth and thirteenth rankings.

We didn't draft a quarterback in the first round to be a handoff machine for his entire career.

I think Keyshawn was somewhat right. But the receivers need to get seperation and give Flacco somewhere to throw other then a checkdown to Ray Rice.. that was the most frustrating point of this season.

Clayton was bad this season.
Mason was himself.
D Will was no where to be found. He isn't our answer in anyway shape or form.
Kelly Washington exceed expectations although he wasn't amazing, but he's a keeper.

Washington is good where he is at. Hes avg but he has some height where he can get a jump ball.

Now that the season is over do you believe what keyshawn said earlier in the season regarding our WR issue "You want a bum, You pay a bum"?? I believe in this just not for a few of them like mason Washington and if D. Will would a go more reps.... but Clayton ill say it straight up and the rest of them are bums you all can get mad and negative rep all you want but you know its true

:th_shame:

Keyshawn has no place to talk about anyone being a bum seeing as s team paid for him to stay home. He was an underachiever as a first overall pick.

That said, he was correct. Our receiving corp was horrible. The worse of all the postseason teams.

Washington should have been used much more than on 3rd downs. It became predictable that Flacco would go to him on 3rd downs. He should have replaced Clayton as the number 2.

Kelley Washington is not going to get any offers elsewhere, however, to be more than a number 3 WR.

Flacco is above-average at best. He zones in on 1 WR too often. If he is going to zone in on 1 or 2 targets the whole game, why not give him a player that can handle that workload. Mason had a heck of a season but imagine what numbers Brandon Marshall would put up. Flacco needs the big body targets to throw to. I hope Flacco gets better but he will never be on the level of Peyton or Favre or any of the greats and I'm ok with that. We have so much talent around this team and 2 glaring weaknesses that prevent us from being dominant.

WRs were part of the issue to why the Ravens didn't go all the way but penalties and stupid turnovers are just as important.

yes we killed ourselves with mistakes like those

I don't think you can say that Flacco will never be on the same level as Peyton and the greats. No one knows the answer to that yet. It's way too early in his career to say how good of a player he's going to be. Personally I love Flacco and think that he's just scratching the surface on how good he can be. He has all the tools and by all accounts he is one of the hardest workers on the team. It sounds like the ravens want him to put on some weight this offseason so we'll see what happens next year. I think next year could really be his break out year especially if ozzie gets him some more weapons.

To be fair, we only have one or two targets on the field at one time. If you had to choose between a guy that never gets open (Clayton) and a guy that does (Mason) who would you choose?

I wouldn't call them bums either...but let's leave the cliches to coach harbaugh and get to FACTS... the colts played a 9 man box on ALL run situations against the ravens...the defense played well, the running game did well considering the fact...(I SAW A 10 MAN BOX FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE), special teams played o.k., the passing game FAILED... that's not losing as "TEAM". that's not having receivers who can GET OPEN. Why are people on here allergic to constructive criticism... Our receivers FAILED us... YET AGAIN...
