Ncaa Fcs National Title Game - Delaware Vs. Appalachian State

2 posts in this topic

Well, tonight's the big night for me.

University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens vs. two-time defending champion Appalachian State Mountaineers.

Delaware has the nation's leading individual scorer REGARDLESS OF DIVISION in star running back Omar Cuff (who's a senior, BTW...*hint hint*) and commands the best offense in the FCS, helmed by star QB Joe Flacco (projected to be a first-day NFL Draft pick).

Meanwhile, Appalachian State is famous for having beaten perennial FBS (formerly DIV-IA) powerhouse Michigan in Ann Arbor in one of college football's biggest upsets.

In a twist of irony that EVERY media outlet has pointed out, Appalachian State began their season with a win over a blue-and-gold (well, blue-and-MAIZE) team with winged helmets, and may end their season in similar fashion while making history with a third consecutive National Title.

Meanwhile, Delaware is gunning for their seventh National Title, and their second under head coach K.C. Keeler, who led UD to a championship victory in 2003 with a DOMINATING 40-0 shut-out of Colgate.

Appalachian State's sophomore QB Armanti Edwards is pegged to be the next DIV-IAA QB since Steve McNair to be a SERIOUS candidate for the Heisman Trophy next season. Edwards is the key to the Mountaineers' offense and has singlehandedly led the team to convincing victories throughout the first-ever FCS playoffs since the rechristening of DIV-I football subdivisions.

Delaware's defense has been porous throughout the regular season, despite putting up respectable numbers. Against high-octane offenses, the Blue Hen defense has allowed an average of at least four TD's, and it's essentially been up to the offense to keep the team in the game. However, UD's defense has stepped it up during this playoff stretch, not allowing more than two offensive TD's in each game.

The key for Delaware in this game will be to shut down Appalachian State's offense early and getting to a quick start, as the UD offense has trailed these past two games by 10 points going into the 2nd quarter before retaking the lead before the half.

Delaware cannot afford to give up too many points early or the Mountaineer defense will do everything in its power to force Flacco & Co. to make mistakes to protect the lead.

I'm looking forward to tonight's game, broadcast nationally LIVE from Chattanooga, TN on ESPN2!

GO HENS!

I, for one, am thoroughly disgusted by the lack of respect Appalachian State players and fans showed in tonight's game.

You DO NOT ham it up for the cameras with FOUR MINUTES left to play. ACT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE.

And the fans? YOU DO NOT BELONG ON THE FIELD OR ON THE SIDELINE WITH THREE MINUTES LEFT IN THE GAME.

This is a disgrace and it's a shame that the national title game had to be marred like this.

I had already accepted the loss as-is with five minutes left, and the fans rushing onto the field early and the players committing so many unsportsmanlike conduct penalties with stupid celebrations is disgusting.

I never thought I'd say I hate a school, but I truly HATE Appalachian State right now for this display of arrogance and the lack of class they've shown me tonight.
