Whoa! What Does This Mean?!

OK, let me set the scene for you: I'm on my 4 yard line (for future reference, 'I' means ravens' offence, 'they' means Colts' defence) I come out trying to spread the field, 5 wideout-shotgun. Then, to my shock and awe, they come out in a goaline formation. obviously I audible in to a hail mary, still in shotgun. The ball is snaped way over my 5"5' QB's head (custom made) it stops dead about 6 yards deep in the end zone. after a moments hesitation, my speedy little quarterback hunts down the ball and starts evading would-be tacklers at will. remeber, I am 6 yards deep in my endzone, so the stakes are high! eventually, he breaks out to the right side and sprints to the colts end zone for the score.

Here's where it gets confusing...

In the scoring recap, the touchdown was listed as a 105 yard fumble recovery, but a rushing touchdown was added to my QB's stats (I know for sure because I got madden points for my third rushing touchdown). No rushing yards were added.

this made me wonder, In real life:

Who would the fumble be accredited to,

What kind of touchdown would it be listed as,

what would have happened if it was fourth down (the rules state that on fourth down only the fumbler[on the offense] can recover and advance the ball, so would the center have to go and recover?)

and would it be the longest rushing touchdown in history, or would they have to break out the asterisk?

Thank you for reading my long, melodramatic and ridiculous post :D

That's the most exciting non-existing play I've ever heard of. I'm not exactly sure how the stats would be correctly posted, but the TD would stand.

-- The fumble would be accredited to the QB, since it falls under the same category as, say, a backward pass to a RB that gets dropped or isn't caught and becomes a fumble. In the case of this botched snap, even though the QB never touches the ball, he is the intended recipient of the "backward pass," thereby committing the fumble. Strange, I know.

-- The TD would technically be listed as a fumble recovery for a TD.

-- Since it was on 4th down and since the QB would be technically designated the fumbler, yes, he can recover and advance the ball. I've seen that happen before in real life, albeit for barely any yardage beyond the original line of scrimmage and never for a first down.

-- Because it was a fumble recovery for a TD, it obviously would NOT count as a rushing TD, and therefore, no asterisk would be necessary.

If a running back muffs a pitch, it counts as rushing yards when he recovers because the ball was transferred from the center to the QB BEFORE the RB fumbled, and since it was a running play, it does not count as a backward pass since a pitch can also (in certain instances) be a lateral if the RB somehow beats the QB to the pitch.

At least, I think that's what the rule would be.

Oh, how sweet would that be in the superbowl next year, replace my 5'5" dude with troy smith!

I usually just make all of my players 7'2". That way, no defenders on the other team has a chance of swatting the ball down.

Yeah I think theFRANCHISE is right. Madden 08 counted it as a rushing TD because it's just a video game and doesn't know any better.

they may perhaps be 'Silly" by anyone's standards...BUT they do in fact predict the outcome of a Game (whether it be baseball, football, College...whatever)...i've found it to be rather useful
