Merged: Ed Reed's Possible Retirement

83 posts in this topic

Mike Duffy just tweeted that Reed said in his press conference he is considering retirement! I know a lot of us kinda saw this coming but how do you feel now the words have come out of his mouth? :gaah:

50-50 right after a tough season, is a good sign. When teams start putting on the pads, he'll get hungry again. It's much tougher to think about next season right now, then a few months down the road.

yeah what K-Dog said.. it would be awful to see Ed retire. Just out of curiosity, who would replace him? Zbikowski or Nakamura? Zibby was pretty decent when he replaced Ed this year wasnt he?

EDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD NOOOOOO!!!!!! I guess all those haters out there who love watching Tommy Z not get beat deep and not MAKE a play will love it. All you young fans out there really dont know what this team and defense was like with Ed healthy. He was better than Polamalu. Straight up

It reminds me of Harry Carson always threatening retirement before LT showed up. Reed hates losing and playing on a mediocre team. Get some better players and he'll love it again. The offense is just horrible to watch under pressure.

Damn, like you posted, it's rough to actually hear it come out of his mouth, although we all knew this kind of a thing was approaching at some point in the near future, if not this year.

If it's because of his health, I'd understand. But if it's because of his emotions immediately after this game, I'm second-guessing him.

heart breaking but totally understandable.

We'll see if Ed changes his talk after the bummage over the loss wears off a little. Not surprised to hear it though...his health hasn't been 100% over the last couple seasons.

Man Ed think of those INTs you grabbed against the Colts. You've still got it....please reconsider. Give us one more season if you feel you have it in your heart.

He's been saying this for the last couple of seasons, so I'm not surprised. I am hoping for another couple of years, though.

Come on, Ed... one more year to try and get a ring. We are 1 big-play WR away from going all the way! :(

A WR, fewer penalties, more consistency, an abilty to beat elite teams, but other than that...

Im not worried about Reed, like you said.. he'll get hungry and be back. He loves the game to much to quit playing. It killed him when he was on the sidelines this season! I'd honestly be more worried about Heap right now.

All other threads need to stop, this is all that matters right now. Not Flacco stuggling, the offense being poo, or needing a WR nothing.

I would rather have Ed but if we dont Zibby played well enough that I think he can make the loss a little less painful for our defense.

And 'Ruki will return off IR at some point too.

Not the news I want to hear. Our secondary was hanging by a thread, but losing Ed Reed will rip our secondary.

It's because of his injures. Can't fault him if he decides to, but obviously we'd all like him back as he is the best safety to have played the game.

I would not call this years team mediocre. we made it into the second round of the playoffs..that's pretty damn respectable.

I would, really who did we beat in all actuality? The chiefs?raiders?browns twice? steelers without their star QB, DE, and SS?the bears? the lions? the broncos? and finally a chargers team that is always slow in the beginning of the season?

In reality this team is VERY mediocre. Lets be honest we are a team that overachieved the first year with a rookie QB and HC and then performed like an average team the year after.

Mediocre teams don't advance to the final eight. We weren't a great team this year, but we were good.

Harry Carson was threatening retirement before LT came on the scene? Carson was 28 during LT's rookie year. Wow he was young when he was threatening!

If Ed Reed would retire it would effect the Ravens really bad because you cant replace an Ed Reed just like you cant replace Ray Lewis they are just that good Reed is a key player

Ed Reed- I've met you several times and can't believe that you would consider retiring! You're a kind, gentle, and wonderful person that has a bigger heart than the game! Shame on you! I would give anything to be in your position. I'm 42 and could have had the best music career on the planet. I've played with Dennis Chambers (Parliment) Tom Crawford (Percy Sledge) etc..., sang the national anthem at the Orioles game, played on Conan O'Brian ,etc. But I gave my Rock and Roll career up for my family. I dont have alot of money anymore, and live outside of Charlotte, NC in the country, but I own my home, have a wondeful family, and love life! You are already a well known, and respected ball player with the most legendary defensive line in the NFL!!! Should I say more! You give our city hope! Ed, you would really be a dissapointment to me and to Baltimore if you retire! You have much more class, heart, and soul, than to let us down like that. You're not only an amazing ball player but an inspiration to others in need of something great!
